Merry Wrath Mysteries #6

Motto for Murder

Rate this book
From USA Today bestselling author, Leslie Langtry comes another hilarious Merry Wrath Mystery...

For ex-CIA Agent turned Girl Scout troop leader, Merry Wrath, planning a wedding is infinitely more terrifying than the time she was a mole in Carlos the Armadillo’s drug cartel. To make matters worse, while plagued by insomnia (brought on by diabolical details that include bizarre things like "boutonnieres") Merry and her cat, Philby, witness a midnight murder next door.

Or do they? With her record of sleeplessness, everyone from her fiancé, Rex, to her Girl Scout troop are questioning her sanity. And when strange incidents of arson start popping up all over Who’s There, Iowa and a mysterious woman vanishes, Merry begins to believe her neighbors are foreign spies.

Throw in meeting her fiancé’s odd twin sisters, late night visits with Mr. Fancy Pants—the King Vulture at the zoo—and a scary sleep study, and Merry wonders if she’s in danger of losing her mind…or her life.

Another wonderful Merry Wrath Mystery! I laughed so much that my husband was curious about what was so funny. Poor Merry has insomnia and it has her questioning everything she sees. Was it a dream? Did it really happen? No one believes what she thinks she saw. Even her cats have you laughing. One looks like Hitler and the other looks like Elvis! Leslie Langtry is a wonderful author and the only thing that would make me hapoier is if we could get this series to come out more often! These books are worth the wait.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.

Motto for Murder sees Merry Wrath convinced her new neighbours are illegal spies. It also sees Merry Wrath suffering from insomnia, and pre-wedding planning jitters.

The 6th Merry Wrath book is a laugh out loud adventure. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this story. BEtween missing Veterinary assistants, the girl scout troop of future spies and her cats, I'm not surprised Merry had trouble organising a wedding. Not to mention her future sisters-in-law and their taxidermy shop.

Motto for Murder is an excellent addition to the Merry Wrath series. If you've not read it, do yourself a favour and get to it. And if you haven't started reading this series yet, what are you waiting for?

Puzzling why Rex does not take Merry's paranoid theories more seriously at this point as she is usually right. So over Merry 'confused ' feelings about Riley. 1. If you are confused don’t accept Rex's proposal. 2. What is there to be confused about? Riley uses you & lies to you, and only turns up every few months when he wants something that puts you in danger and the very worst - he gave 2 of your cats away. If we could focus more on the girl scouts, the cats and crime and less on that it would be great.

Can you be on the edge of your seat while laughing all the way through to the end? You bet you can!

The 6th book in the Merry Wrath series is amazing! Merry, ex-CIA agent hiding in her old hometown after being outed has a wedding to plan to Rex a detective in the local police force and it is just causing her so much stress, it turned her into an insomniac. While pacing the floors all night she stops and sees her new neighbors across the street dragging a body in the wee hours of the morning. Did she really see that? Who are these people. On the edge, she calls Rex and tells him he has to investigate, she knows a body when she sees one and she is not hallucinating. After nothing was found, she feels she has to investigate herself and so it starts. Of course at the same time she and her BFF, Kelly are in charge of a group of pre-teen girl scouts who have a special day to plan for. Just something else to do. Especially since the girls love Merry and her crazy teachings. But she still has a wedding to plan for and has NO idea what to do and besides, she thinks her neighbors are murderers or even spies. And Kelly signed her up with a therapist at the hospital to help alleviate the stress and a sleep study to see why she can't sleep. To help, Merry calls her Mom in Washington who is sweet and take-charge to help plan the wedding and between Kelly and Merry's mom, things in the wedding planning direction start to fall into place. But now there is the Veterinarian's assistant who goes missing and her house is tossed. What is going on? AND there are fires that are suspicious. And Riley her old CIA partner shows up in town causing some confusion in Merry's head as well as what is he doing in her town, she no longer works with him. Riley is now working with the FBI not the CIA. Why is he here? Oh and lets add to all the craziness above with meeting Rex's twin sisters he had been estranged from for years. This gives Merry pause, she really doesn't know anything about her fiance's family, having never met his sisters or even his parents. Oh My. Well this entire crazy storyline not only keeps you on the edge of your seat, but has you laughing all the way through to the end!

Merry Wrath, retired CIA agent, has insomnia. It has come to the point that she and her cat Philby spend most of the night watching the neighbors sword fight, spar, and um...carry in a dead body??? Meanwhile she is stressing over wedding plans, Rex's twin sisters who are new in town, missing her career, confusion caused by Riley popping up at her house in disguises, meeting with Mr. Fancy Pants, and of course the next girl scout activity. Meanwhile, her good friend Kelly has stepped in to help Merry. She gets her in with a therapist, and signs her up for a sleep study. Kelly also gets Merry's mom to visit and they decided on a date for the wedding and start making plans.

Between the girl scouts, Merry's sleepless nights, and wedding planning, Merry is sleuthing to try and find a missing woman as well as prove her neighbors are up to no good and are spys. Any one of these goals can be hilarious when done Merry Wrath style. However, my favorite is the girl scout troop of 12 astonishingly bright girls who in Merry's thoughts are the closest thing there is to a sleeper cell in Who's There, Iowa. With four Kaitlyns that have a last name starting with M and all the four mothers are named Ashley, Merry wonders sometimes if she is living in an alternate universe!

If you are hoping for a good mystery, chuckles, some spy moves, laughter, cats, romance, meeting Rex's family, and more laughter, you are going to LOVE this book. Definitely a book that you don't want to put down and stop to do mundane chores. Who needs supper? Let them grab a bowl of cereal and you keep reading.😋 (No Ms Langtry did NOT tell me to say that, although I thought I heard a faint cheer from her hometown.)

In case you wonder or care, I was given an advanced reader's copy of this book by the publisher. I appreciate the opportunity to read and review it, and the opinions expressed are strictly my own.

I received this book for an honest unbiased review. This is the sixth book in the Merry Wrath mystery series. I had never read the series before so I had to read all the books in just a couple weeks so I could review this one. Luckily I really really loved the series. It hooked me right away and I couldn't wait to find out what happened next. Each book was better than the last.

This series is so funny I found myself literally laughing out loud all the time. I just love Merry she is so witty and so funny. I love her Dynamic with all the characters. She was hilarious with no sleep. I know it's bad to say but I hope she keeps it up. It really adds hilarity.

I found it really refreshing to have a cozy mystery story that actually had someone who had a background in law enforcement. As an ex-cia agent, she actually knew what she was doing. Don't get me wrong I love a good cozy mystery but most of the heroines are usually like just normal people who stumble into a murder investigation. It was kind of nice to have someone who kind of had more of an idea what they were doing. And all of her spy stories are pretty hilarious on their own. It was a really refreshing aspect.

This book, in particular, was really good I missed Riley being in it as much though. He is her ex-cia handler and I love their connection together. I really hope he's in the future books more than he was in this one.

I love her girl scouts. They are so funny and surprisingly bloodthirsty. Betty may be my favorite. As a crazy cat lady myself I get such a kick out of her cats and their crazy antics. A cat that looks like Hitler and the other Elvis...What could be better?

If you love a cozy mystery with a lot of heart that is literally laugh out loud funny then this is definitely the book for you I completely recommend it. Don't wait to go out and grab this book today and all the others in the series. You will not be disappointed.

Motto For Murder is the first book in the Merry Wrath Mystery series by Leslie Langtry that I have read and BOY have I been missing out !!! I instantly fell in love with Merry and her two cats !!! Motto For Murder is the sixth book in this series and even though it was the first one that I have read, I was not lost at all !! Langtry gets the reader up to speed instantly and you fall into the story immediately.

Main character Merry Wrath is a former CIA-spy living in her hometown with her two cats. She lives across the street from her detective fiance Rex and runs a Girl Scout Troop with her best friend. And if all that isn't fun enough, Merry is trying to plan her wedding but her insomnia is playing tricks on her......or is it ??

In Motto For Murder she thinks she sees her new neighbors carrying a dead body into thier house. And when she learns that a woman working for her vetenerian is missing, her CIA skills have her drawing crazy conclusions !!!

Oh and Merry also meets Rex's twin sisters who recently opened up a Taxidermy shop in town where they dress up dead animals in weird costumes and weird settings. And when she learns that the missing woman left her beloved cat with the sisters to have stuffed and hasn't picked it up yet, Merry is in full CIA mode......

Motto For Murder was such a FUN read !! So many different things than most readers aren't use to that it makes for a fast read also. You cannot put the book down because you really want to make sure that Merry is sane and on the right track.

Another great addition to the “Merry Wrath” series, #6. Merry is an ex-CIA agent that was outed by the Vice President due to his dislike of her father, a US Senator. Since that time, she has been living in Who’s There, Iowa and spends her time helping with a girl scout troop, falling in love with sexy detective Rex, investigating and getting into trouble. The whole storyline and characters are unique and intriguing, and Ms. Langtry’s writing style is so witty and hilarious. In this latest adventure, Merry is sure that she saw her neighbors carrying a body. She tells her fiancé, Rex, and he tells her that she is imagining things due to her insomnia. So, she spends her nights watching the neighbor’s house, positive that they are spies…after all, she was one so she should know. Right? She finally meets Rex’s sisters (wow), begins planning her wedding (has no clue about how to do this), helping with her scouts (they are a hoot!) and wondering why there would be more spies in Who’s There, Iowa…well except for her, of course! Such an entertaining mystery that will keep you guessing and turning the pages! I have read the series and suggest that if you have not, that you start at the beginning with “Merit Badge Murder” and enjoy your introduction to Merry Wrath and her not stop action and laughter. I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to give an honest review. (by paytonpuppy)

The Merry Wrath Mystery series always has something zany and unusual going on. How could it not? The main character, Merry Wrath, is a former CIA operative who retired after being outed publicly. She returns to her small hometown and becomes a....Girl Scout Leader.

Motto for Murder is book 6 in this series. And, it takes full advantage of the weird possibilities an ex-CIA operative/Girl Scout Troop leader vibe can create. Seriously, the plot of this one was all over the place. Wedding plans and jitters. New neighbors who may be spies.A string of arsons. Mix insomnia, cats who look like Hitler and Elvis, and Girl Scout events and you get a good picture of the craziness of Merry Wrath's life.

Most of the time I wouldn't enjoy a plot that was pretty much just all over the place. But....in this series....it works. Perfectly.

A fun, entertaining addition to this series! I enjoyed the book and will continue reading this series.

I am a bit weary of the love triangle/can't choose which man trope-y part of the ongoing plot though. I've been reading another long series that also has a love triangle that has plodded on and on and on for years -- with no hint of resolution. That series pretty much killed any interest I have in love triangles in cozy mysteries. I hope it doesn't drag out in this series as well.....not a fan.

I love the Merry Wrath Mysteries! It is exciting and funny! The characters are awesome and the mystery has a few twists to keep things interesting. Merry Wrath is a retired CIA Agent and is now living in a small town in Iowa and is engaged to Detective Rex Ferguson. The neighbors are acting weird and because Merry has insomnia she begins to watch them. She thinks they are spies but everyone thinks she is delusional due to being sleep deprived. Merry finds out a lady is missing and she lives close to Merry. That has Merry curious. Rex doesn't seem to want her to meet his parents and wedding details are stressing her out. The Scouts are involved in Thinking Day which adds to Merry's To-Do List. Riley of course makes an appearance and is confusing Merry. He obviously cares for her. He is working for the FBI now and can't share info with her. Hmmmm. This is a very enjoyable book and the audiobook is really well done! #MottoForMurder #MerryWrathMysteries #GemmaHallidayPublishing

Merry has insomnia and is convinced her neighbors are spies. Plus it turns out Rex has family in town.

What I enjoyed:
* I adore the girl scout troop, they are the best! Mind you, I would never, ever want to be in charge of them.
* Rex's family is weird, even for these books.
* Merry's mom is the bomb!
* Interesting mystery

What could have been better:
* I hope the love triangle goes away. Merry is now engaged and actually set a date. Riley needs to move on.
* Merry needs to find a job/career.

When Merry Wrath sees a body being carried into her neighbors house in the middle of the night, her past training kicks in, and she suspects spies are in town. She is suffering from a sever case of insomnia. So she is awake most of the night.

This is a great addition to the Merry Wrath story. There are spies, a missing woman, and even an appearance from Mr. Fancy Pants, the King Vulture is on loan from the D.C. zoo. And some very quirky people who will become Mary's in-laws.

There are well defined characters, lots of laughs, and plenty of stunts from the girl scout troop. I was also happy to see that officer Dooley must have had some remedial training after the last book, as he acted in a much more professional manner.

Ex-CIA Agent turned Girl Scout troop leader, Merry Wrath has led anything but a quiet life since leaving the agency. She has been involved in multiple murder cases, leads a Girl Scout troop full of 4th graders and has recently become engaged. All of this plus dealing with her feelings for her ex-handler Riley is causing her terrible insomnia. To make matters worse, Merry and her cat, Philby, think they witness a midnight murder next door. Due to her record of sleeplessness, everyone is questioning her sanity. Her fiancé Rex is also hiding some secrets of his own. Join Merry & the wacky cast of characters for another wild ride that will have you laughing out loud.

A delightful read that kept me entertained and engaged from beginning to end with unforgettable characters and a fast-paced mystery that kept me on my toes and laughing out loud as I turned the pages as fast as I could to see what would happen next.

I love Merry Wrath and her dynamic with everyone in Who's There, Iowa, especially her fiancé Detective Rex Ferguson. Ms. Langtry has given us another winner in a series that doesn't have to be read in order. This is a must-read if you enjoy light-hearted mysteries.

These books make me laugh, especially when Merry’s Girl Scout gets involved. I’m afraid my troops didn’t have near this much fun. Those girls are hilarious! So smart and funny! Merry and Kelly handle them well. How hard would it be for you to give up your previous employment? Seems Merry may be having trouble with that. And the goings on in such a small town! Can’t wait to see how these wedding plans are going to pan out, especially since Rex’s family is now thrown into the mix. Oh, I can’t forget about Merry’s cats! Philby and Martini, they are a story themselves. Love them!

The Merry Wrath series like Miss Fortune has her characters getting into the most absurd situations. This installment might be one of my favorites so far. The girl scouts started a war with Spain at a girl scout meeting. Mr. Fancy Pants is back and his cookie capers are still hilarious. And we all knew that Philbie is a secret agent in disguise.

The only downside was Merry’s insecurities about marrying Rex and ensuing insomnia. The entire book I was afraid that she would leave Rex because he didn't tell her anything about his family. I this kind of resolution of a love triangle. Fortunately, the author didn't go there.

Loved this book! The Merry Wrath series is wacky and wonderful as Merry, a former spy that was burned, ambles through life while seeing murders and spies all around her. Even her boyfriend, Rex, a police detective, thinks she's seeing things that aren't there. But what if she's right?

This is a fun novel that is filled with all the humor, and cats, that you would expect in a Merry story. While this is part of a series, this is a stand alone novel, however the series is so good that you really owe it to yourself to read them all. The author is on my must read authors' list.

Wild & Wacky!

Another hilarious adventure for ex-CIA spy turned Girl Scout Troop Leader, Merry Wrath. She may be a crackerjack spy, which she lets you know through crazy little vignettes, but she hasn’t a clue about planning her wedding! With a little help from her mom & bff Kate, she has time to investigate the disappearance of a woman, her strange neighbors, & her fiancé’s strange family. I laughed out loud on every page. And I looooove her GS Troop! Those girls are phenomenal!

Merry Wrath is back at her hilarious best, or maybe even better with her suffering insomnia on top of her normal bout of crazy....lol It’s a good thing she has the handsome Rex totally in love with her even if he has kept his family a big secret from her so is Rex embarrassed by Merry or his family??? I’m sure it’s a mystery Merry will pounce on along with her overactive imagination and her Girl Scout troop in toe.

I love a light hearted mystery that makes me laugh out loud.

Confusion

The mind of an ex spy is a wonderful thing. Poor Merry has a head full of everything, which is causing insomnia that leads to whole lot of second guessing. Still, instincts are an amazing thing not even sleep deprivation can curtail. Is Merry becoming a private investigator too cliche?

This will make you giggle-snort for sure. Merry Wrath has insomnia and yes it will get her into trouble. Like did the neighbors carry a dead body into their house at the midnight hour. Is she having doubts about marrying Rex. Does she miss spy work? Well read it and find out. It's one of the best Merry Wrath mysteries I have read.

An arsonist is on the loose in Who's There. Merry has her eye on her shady neighbors, and is investigating a missing local woman. With Riley out of the CIA and in with the FBI, Merry is forced to investigate these mysteries alone. Will she fail, or will she show the two men in her life just how capable she really is?

The Feds Come to Town

Merry is suffering from insomnia from anxiety over the wedding. Then she discovers Rex’s has twin sisters who have moved to town and kid parents are still living. Then she thinks her neighbors are spies. Life is way to complicated and Riley keeps happening. A funny quirky Girl Scouts adventure.
