This book is the testimony of eighteen US Lithuanians who were forced to leave Lithuania during the Second World War and withdraw to the West away from the upcoming Soviets and the threat of deportations. The book is based on an oral history project led by Laima Petrauskas VanderStoep in which the people spoke openly about the circumstances of leaving Lithuania, their lives in DP camps in Germany and finally realizing that they will not “be back soon” immigrating to the United States.
