Reviewed by Reader's Favorite Davis is Awake Reviewed By Jack Magnus for Readers’ Favorite Davis is Awake is a hard science fiction novel written by James Huber. Dr. Charleston leapt into action when Nurse Mena informed him that Davis had woken up. He used the dedicated phone to inform Mr. Sadler of the news. Davis had not been awake for some time; it was 455 years, to be exact, since the chemical accident that had caused him to lose consciousness. Sadler Industries had taken on the young Captain Davis after his term of enlistment with the military was ending. He had been trained intensively and was a foremost expert in the field of chemicals. While he was working on the last job he had undertaken, there was some concern over the interactions of the combined chemicals. As Davis prepared his reports and the cleanup crew finished their work, he mentally traveled to North Africa, where he was planning to vacation soon. He'd been there before and loved the hot, dry environment. After the crew let him know they were finished, he went to check the seals on the barrel. As the onlookers watched, Davis fell to his knees and lost consciousness. Mr. Sadler instantly had a team of doctors working on his man, and when they failed to do any more than stabilize his condition, he arranged for a private hospital to care for the man he has employed This high-tech science fiction novel, Davis is Awake, is a sobering and thought-provoking look into the future as seen through the eyes of a present-day man who wakes up centuries later. Davis's therapy sessions provide him with fifty-year lessons in history -- and what a history it is. Huber's post-apocalyptic world is frighteningly plausible, and the technology he dreams up for this work is also credible and often marvelous. Davis is Awake is quite a compelling read. I felt akin to Davis as he wonders why his lessons in history are broken into fifty-year segments, and I wanted to learn it all without delay. This speculative fiction gem is highly recommended. It is original and timely. What can a man experience if he is in a coma for hundreds of years? This book is fast paced and fun to read. Mike Davis loses consciousness while certifying the safe-sealing of highly poisonous chemicals destined for a secured government location. 455 years later, Davis awakens to a new and different world - one of which he has no knowledge of within the “current” society. Using 50-year increment “learning modules,” he acquires his “lost” history of the compelling, tumultuous, turbulent, fragmented and post-apocalyptic years since regaining consciousness. This book, and all of my others are available for movie, animation, serialization or television rights.Contact my agent, James von Scholz for more information.james@vonscholz.de1 212-444-2670
