Narayan Gopal Dharap ( August 27 , 1925 - August 18 , 2008 ; Pune , Maharashtra ) was a Marathi language writer, dramatist. It is mainly known for horror stories and mystery stories. The fictional character "Samarth" created by him and the mystery stories based on him became particularly popular.

मी नारायण धारप यांची पुस्तके लहानपणापासून वाचत आलो आहे. भयकथांची ओळख मला नारायण धारप यांकडूनच झाली. माझ्यासाठी भय-गूढ कथा याचा अर्थ नारायण धारप हेच आहेत. त्या नंतर जर कोणी असेल तर ते नक्कीच रत्नाकर मतकरी असतील. असो, 'दरवाजे' हा एक लघुकथा संग्रह आहे. ह्या मध्ये ४ लघु कथांचा समावेश होतो. ताईत, मध्यस्त , दरवाजे आणि चुकलेली वाट. पैकी मला दरवाजे हि लघुकथा त्यांनी लिहलेल्या सर्वोत्तम लघु कथांपैकी एक आहे असे मला वाटते.

जर तुम्ही नारायण धारप ह्याचे चाहते असाल तर नक्की आवडेल तुम्हाला, पण जर तुम्ही प्रथमच नारायण धारप हाथात घेत असाल तर हा लघु कथा संग्रह तुमच्या साठी नक्की नाही! कारण ह्या कथा संग्रह मध्ये त्यांची छाप तुम्हाला आढळणार नाही.
प्रथमच हाती नारायण धारप घेत असाल तर ४४०, चंदनवाडी किंवा अनोळखी दिशा ह्या पैकी असावी असा मला वाटतं.

Narayan Dharap is a name which is lesser known by the current generation, however in 60s, his novels had created whirls in Marathi literature. His stories are fabulous & shocking, creates fearsome aura around the reader.

The good thing about dharap's books are they can create scene in a moment. I have read so many of his books . I found dharap's ability to create a scenario and make people feel mysterrous and thrill them , make them frightened is appreciable. However, The way he ends the stories left me felt that he ended it hurriedly. when compared to ratnakar matkari's books, matkari is much ahead of him,I like matkari's books more than dharap's. But both are entertaining (although Matkari's are fantastic.)

Not as captivating as expected

this collection of short stories lack the power to hold reader into narration. Yet the book has one or two stories indulging the reader.
