This is my third Tænkepauser and on a subject that I knew very little on.
In this small book on Sound, Anette Vandsø talks about various adventures in sound - from John Cage’s 4:33 to visuel microphones, elephant communication, ultrasound scans and how sound is a tactile phenomenon. How sound is used to monitor nuclear tests, ensure teenagers or homeless don’t gather in places where they are not wanted, how soundscapes and everyday sounds are very important to how we experience our surroundings. She writes about noise, car sounds, music composed of sounds to the current invasions of privacy through the microphones in our smartphones.
Vandsø covers a lot of ground and it is just fascinating.
