Es una buena época para ser fan del manga “Blue Exorcist” o “Ao no Exorcist”. Después de un año de parón, el manga lleva ya bastantes meses de nuevo publicándose mensualmente en Japón en la revista Jump SQ. Y en marzo salió una nueva temporada (la tercera) del anime, a la que van a seguir otras dos, una que saldrá en octubre o noviembre (no recuerdo) y otra que se emitirá a partir de enero del 2025, y que se enfocará en el arco del que forma parte este tomo. Quizás sea por todo esto que me ha vuelto a dar fuerte por esta historia y después de mucho tiempo he decidido retomarla en el mismo punto donde la dejé hace ya un par de años. Además, este es de los pocos mangas que compró habitualmente a día de hoy.
En compañía de Mephisto, Rin sigue viajando al pasado para descubrir la historia de su nacimiento y de sus padres. Ahí comprobará que el Rinka con el que su madre, Yuri, jugaba de niña no es otro que el mismísimo Satán, que se ha reencarnado en uno de los especímenes experimentales de la sección 13. Debido a la obsesión del demonio más poderoso de todos con Yuri, esta quedará al cargo de educarle y proporcionarle estímulos. Pero Satán es demasiado peligroso e impredecible, y quiere a toda costa seguir manteniendo su envoltura carnal y mantener a la humana cerca de él.
Dice la autora, Kazue Kato, que este arco del pasado le está quedando bastante extenso, pero yo disiento bastante. Se siente que cada uno de los episodios y elementos que estamos descubriendo en este flashback están perfectamente ideados para conectar con toda la historia que hemos leído hasta ahora sin que sobre nada y jugando con muchos de los personajes con los que nos hemos encontrado en los anteriores volumenes, lo que demuestra el excedente planteamiento de la trama por parte de la mangaka desde el principio. Muchas de las incógnitas que han sobrevolado esta historia desde el principio han empezado a desentrañarse en este tomo, mientras descubrimos más sobre el nacimiento de Rin y Yukio y la relación de sus padres. Me gusta mucho la manera en que está enfocado el vínculo entre Yuri y Shiro, y me ha enternecido ver como este dejaba de lado muchas de sus conductas autodestructivas y solitarias gracias a la amistad con Yuri y Rick (que hombre más secundario no puede ser, pero ahí está aportando su granito de arena). Es gracioso ver cómo son muy diferentes ente sí, pero por eso mismo su relación resulta tan cálida en varios momentos, el uno tiene lo que le falta al otro, y los dos se complementan muy bien entre ellos desde que se conocieron de pequeños, sobre todo por lo luminosa que es Yuri. Quizás una de las cosas que más estoy disfrutando de este arco es el descubrir más sobre el pasado de Shiro y sobre como era antes de adoptar a los gemelos. Seguro que a muchos lectores les ha pasado como a mí, que teniendo en cuenta que es un personaje que influye tanto en la historia y en Rin y Yukio y que su pasado hasta ahora era un misterio, había mucha curiosidad por saber más sobre él y alucinan comprobando lo duro y frío que era en sus años jóvenes. Entre él y Yuri hay momentos que resultan muy tiernos y que por eso mismo duelen, sobre todo cuando piensas en el dramón que se va a venir en los siguientes tomos, que miedo le tengo.
El triangulo que se ha montado en estas páginas entre estos dos y Satán resulta muy interesante, sobre todo por lo poco convencional que resulta. Satán me está pareciendo el personaje más relevante de lo que llevamos de arco. En este volumen estamos viendo todas sus facetas, desde el ego tan desmedido que tiene y como se considera asimismo como un auténtico dios, hasta su desesperación por mantener su cuerpo humano implacable, puede llegar a ser, hasta el extremo de tomar rehenes para conseguir sus propósitos. Y todo eso pasando por momentos en los que se le ve genuinamente enamorado de Yuri. La relación entre esos dos a veces resulta un tanto perturbadora por la obsesión del demonio con ella y el empecinamiento de Yuri en protegerlo, pero al mismo tiempo también está resultando muy curiosa y dando mucho juego.
(Por cierto, hay algo que me ha llamado la atenció, y que se supone que Lucifer y Mephisto son los hijos de Satán, pero en este Flashback él actúa como si los conociera por primera vez y no supiera de su existencia hasta ese entonces. Espero que nos expliquen esto en algún momento, porque no creo que sea un error de continuidad.)
Además, resulta muy interesante ver a la orden de la Vera Cruz en plena acción, tanto cuando toca desplegar efectivos como cuando toca maquillar las cosas a conveniencia. Momentos en los cuales no te extraña nada que Yukio la haya mandado a freír espárragos. Entre tanto misterio y premonición de Drama, se agradecen esos pequeños momentos más ligeros o humorísticos, como el momento de Shiro con Shura (en el que por cierto, descubrimos como entablo relación con alguno de los curas, que luego le ayudaron a criar a los gemelos) o las viñetas que hay entre capítulos, donde vemos a Rin sufriendo por lo que está descubriendo mientras Mephisto disfruta del espectáculo comiendo snack varios. Buena falta nos hace algún momento que nos saque la sonrisa, que presiento que en los siguientes volúmenes no vamos a tener muchas oportunidades de hacerlo.

Goro, uno de los clones que son idénticos a Shiro, pasa a ser poseído por el mismísimo Satán, o Rinka como Yuri lo llamaba desde pequeña.
Satán es el demonio más poderoso de todos y pese a que al inicio tiene prácticamente la personalidad de un niño encaprichado con Yuri, con el paso de apenas unos meses aprende a hablar, escribir y las cosas que lee ya no le sorprenden en lo más mínimo. Podría decirse que su ego lo convierten en una criatura cínica, con complejo de dios ya que se cree perfecto e indestructible. Sin embargo, su cuerpo no opina lo mismo.
Le sucede lo mismo que a otros demonios: su poder es tan fuerte que deteriora a su cuerpo físico, por lo tanto, no pasa mucho tiempo antes de que ostente heridas por doquier. Y, al ser alguien volátil, la Orden de la Cruz Verdadera no tiene más remedio que utilizar a la joven exorcista Yuri para mantenerlo a raya, al menos para que deje de asesinar a personas inocentes con sus temibles llamas azules.
Seguimos conociendo el pasado a través de los ojos de Rin, sin embargo, pareciera que todo estaba conectado desde el inicio. Creo que la mangaka lo planeó de esa forma y ciertamente, es de aplaudirse. Es impresionante cómo el tiempo cambia no sólo el físico de las personas, sino también sus intereses y valores.
Me gusta muchísimo Yuri y Shiro, aunque casi siempre se muestra como alguien violento y despreocupado de lo demás, creo que está muy lejos de serlo. Ambos son diferentes, pero al mismo tiempo, es como si tuvieran algo que los uniera desde pequeños.
¡Urge continuar con el siguiente volumen! ¡Cada vez tengo más preguntas que respuestas!

Okay right so this is my review of the second half of the Blue Exorcist manga so far--this might not make any sense except to me but these are my reviews so ha deal with it lol. ANYWAY...as much as I love the first half of this manga, the second half SLAPS BIG TIME. Like, oh my god???? I was like passively reading this series and enjoying it a lot, but since like vol. 16 or so, it's just ramped up to this whole other level with the best backstory for Rin and Yukio's birth and Father Fujimoto that I have ever read in my fucking life??? I just have so much respect that this backstory is not only well done but connects everything that the author has been building this entire series so flawlessly and is JUST as interesting as the main story right now, which is also incredible.
Literally my only complaint is that sometimes this world is built so good that I'm confused like......I can't even really complain about that.
Man I am just...I just finished this volume and I'm in awe. I know volume 24 is out but I think I have to buy it because my library doesn't have it but tbh I hope to some day own all of these later volumes because the story and the art rn is just blowing my fucking mind. I hope they make it all into an anime one day but as they've only animated like 2 arcs in 10 years I don't have much hope haha

The lead up to the pain and madness of the "Blue Night" made for a dark volume. Watching Satan grow into his new body and begin to experience life was interesting but then once he learned of his own power it brought out the worst in him. The mixture of violence and adoration he directed at Yuri made it hard to accept how determined she was to save him from his own worst impulses. Still I found her a really admirable character and it sucked to see her scape-goated for Section 13's monstrous choices. I can't imagine how hard it is for Rin to see all of this and it only gets worse from here. Also I can't believe Shiro didn't tell her he loved her before she left.

I actually enjoyed this volume more because Rin and Mephisto hardly interrupted the action. It was better to get the story straight than with their constant pop ups when they're just observing. While the arc in general is already revealed simply by Rin and Yukio existing, it's been neat to get some backstory on their names and learn about their parents, especially their mother. Many details around Section 13 are also revealed in this volume.

We’re still in the backstory of Yuri and Satan, as Sir Pheles accompanies Rin on his voyage of discovery into his past. Deep below the Academy, in Section 13, exorcists are researching elixirs of immortality and developing clones to house the spirits of demons, including Lord Lucifer himself. But a new demon has arrived, one much stronger and more powerful than the rest—none other than Satan himself! However, they are unaware of his identity… at least for now.
Lucifer’s hopes of receiving a new body before his old one completely fails are slowly diminishing, as another body goes to the demon Amaimon. But Lucifer never gives up hope. The next demon to emerge manages to escape and runs into Yuri. She is shocked to recognize Rinka. Unfortunately for him, he is captured immediately after their reunion and returned to Section 13.
Yuri is the only one who can get through to Rinka, so Mephisto decides to enlist her aid with the newborn demon. Although practically an infant at first, Rinka learns quickly under Yuri’s tutelage. But his intellect far outstrips his emotional development, as well as his reasoning powers, leaving him subject to violent outbursts. Shiro agrees to help Yuri with Rinka, which leads to some head-butting between the two. But Rinka is clever, and although Yuri tries to keep him from learning too much, he gets around her and makes even greater strides. And he now realizes who he really is. New arrivals contain the area, leaving Yuri without access and unable to visit Rinka.
Shiro finds himself in control of an orphaned little girl named Shura, to his chagrin, who dreams of one day marrying him. Satan is making his demands known, on behalf of himself and Lucifer. And one demand is to have Yuri brought to him. But they don’t bring her right away and he doesn’t repeat his demand. However, Yuri decides to go to him on her own, determined to save him in exchange for his release of the demons. She succeeds, and for a while they are happy together. But Satan’s body is weakening… and Yuri is pregnant. What to do, what to do, what to do?
I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed this volume of Blue Exorcist, definitely worth the wait. This explains so much that I’ve wondered from the beginning, mostly what would attract an exorcist to consort with Satan himself. This is actually romantic, and I think they are cute together (sorry, Shiro!). Alas, I already know the ending all too well. Perhaps I should write a fanfic where they are not torn apart, Yuri doesn’t die, she tames the demon, and they live happily together with their twin sons.
Other familiar figures have entered the scene, ie Todo and Niehaus, And we also see the Koma sword, which we are more than passing familiar with at this point. I love the little picture in between chapters, with Rin hiding his face at what is going on and Mephisto munching on popcorn like he’s watching a movie.
You have to feel sorry for Shiro. It’s obvious he’s deeply in love with Yuri, but it’s his own fault for never having said anything to her about it. His feelings for her also explain his love for Rin and Yukio, and his vigilance in regards to Rin and his concealed powers. I’m not sure if he realized the truth about Yukio. If he did, he trusted him to handle it, which he didn’t trust Rin to do. At least not until it became a necessity when he was dying, having fought against Rin’s father. He saved the son but lost his life in the process.
I also feel sorry for Yuri. That is no way to spend a pregnancy, which should be a happy time but which has become a nightmare for her. Separated from her baby daddy, treated like a test subject. I hope that at least Rin comes away from this knowing that he and his brother were conceived in love, albeit an ill-fated one. I imagine the backstory will stop with the birth of the twins, but that remains to be seen. No sign of Yukio in this volume since it was all backstory. Can’t wait to see what happens next!

I love how Kazue Kato is able to blend in all the prior flashbacks of Shiro Fujimoto into one narrative here. We've seen glimpses of him back when he was an exorcist but now we're seeing those events replayed, in chronological order, with more context. And they're not just isolated incidents! Kato is able to weave them together so that they all have a common moral- not Shiro being the best person, but a flawed man learning how to embrace his good and do the right thing. Throughout the series he had been portrayed as some great man, kind of heart and awfully skilled. But the flashback is showing how fallible he really was and the moments we've seen from him, while true, were more rare and just as life-changing for him as they were for the people he interacted with.

This one continues to be my one of my favorites among the plethora of Manga I'm reading. This one continues the Flashback explaining the relationship between, Yuri, Satan, and Father Shujimoto, exploring the concatenation of circumstances that lead to the births of Rin and Yukio. Pacing, art, character, all continue to uphold the series' continuously high standards and plenty of new information is made available.

This volume continues the journey into the past as it shows the backstory between Yuri and Satan, now that Satan has a human body. And honestly, I'm kind of disappointed with it. Idk, I was expecting something more and way more detail than we got. Lime, I really enjoyed the beginning with Satan seeming like a little kid and slowly learning more as Yuri taught him, but ofc, since he took a hostage everyone gave him all the books and knowledge he wanted and all hell broke loose. With his new found knowledge Satan has an overgrown ego to say the least and declares himself God, which fair enough since his is father to all demons.
Yuri obviously is not happy with any of this because Satan kills people without batting an eye as he seems to look at humans as inferior beings. And since it's obvious Yuri doesn't want to be with Satan he flees for two years with his demon hoard. However, after all this time his body has begun to deteriorate and he returns to Asylum demanding a new body and further research.
Yuri is finally allowed to talk with Satan and while he initially planned on killing her, he ultimatley could not go through with it. Thus, the demons abandon asylum and Satan and Yuri plan to runaway together. Satan wants Yuri to always be by his side until his body finally gives out.
Now, this is what irks me. Like, I am unclear on what Yuri's feelings and relationship with Satan actually are. Like she had said she wanted to save him before, but does she actually care for him deeper than that? Is she running away with him just to keep everyone else safe? Because Satan, obviously he has a huge arrogant ego like there is no tomorrow. His feelings and attitude toward Yuri are obsessive and toxic at best. Idk, what to think about them. Which is why I really wish we could have gotten a much more detailed explanation of their relationship and their thoughts than just jumping around time so much.
For example, after Yuri and Satan decide to run away together they are captured after a few months probably because it is revealed that Yuri is pregnant. And then the volume ends with her about to give birth to our beloved twins.
This volume the time jumps are definitley are over the place. Not a big fan of it. Where is the character depth between Satan and Yuri I was hoping for 😭 Hopefully we get something the next time we see it.
And as a last note. Also not a fan at all of the Yuri x Shiro stuff going on. Just not feeling it. Nope.

Siguiendo el flashback de la historia de Yuri, ahora vemos cómo es que se relaciona con Satán en su forma humana.
Un día uno de los clones fue poseido pero nadie sabía por quién. Shiro fue a verlo y el clon se descontroló y huyó, llegando donde estaba Yuri y ella lo reconoció como Rinka, el demonio que había estado con ella toda su vida.
El demonio solo dejaba que Yuri se acercara a él, por lo que ella empezó a enseñarle a leer, algunos juegos y cultura. Era como un niño en el cuerpo de un adulto. Un día Shiro entra al lugar y juega con el demonio a tirar unos sapitos de juguete y al perder, se enoja con Shiro jurando que lo vencería. Pidió muchos libros y pasó toda la noche leyendo, así que cuando llegó Yuri a verlo, este ya había entendido que es Satán, rey de los demonios.
Satán se escapa durante mucho tiempo pero como su cuerpo se empezó a descomponer y sentir dolor, vuelve al sector 13 exigiendo que se le de otro cuerpo, pero al no haber otro le dieron elixires para mantenerlo convida. Además llamó a Yuri para que se quedara con él y ella acepta.
Satán se toma el sector 13, pero Yuri lo convence de escapar y este acepta. Cuando estaban huyendo los acorralan y como Satán está débil lo capturan fácilmente. También nos enteramos que Yuri está embarazada y acá no entiendo en qué momento pasó. Si es que realmente hicieron algo o Satán le puso un hechizo o algo. Tengo esa duda. Termina el tomo cuando Yuri empieza el trabajo de parto.
Si bien me está gustando la historia, no me calza la relación entre Satán y Yuri, siento que no hay una química romántica entre ellos. Por el lado de él puedo entenderlo un poco más, pero por el lado de ella se vuelve confuso porque le gusta Shiro pero no duda ni un momento en escaparse con un demonio. Entiendo que le importen los demonios, pero a tal punto me parece raro.

So we get to see Satan's origin in this world and it is pretty unique as they state that this world's Satan has always existed but just did not have a will until much later. As we see Satan gain a will and it was interesting seeing him grow as he first acts a baby and then a teen. But the part that loses me as he almost immediately jump into being someone with a arrogant god complex. It fits but I just wished they would have connected better as before he was just acting like a kid. But I do like that even though he understands that he is the most powerful demon in existence he still has a soft spot for Yuri and I do like that.

Un tomo entero de flashbacks increíbles. No puedo creer cómo la autora desarrolló incluso la historia de Satán. Con cada tomo que pasa esta mangaka me sorprende más. Sin dudas este manga no puede juzgarse con los primeros tomos, hay demasiado trasfondo que necesita su tiempo para desarrollarse.
Que Rin pueda ver este pasado le da un toque particular, encima puede hacerlo con un objeto que se le da en el primer tomo que la gran mayoría de nosotros seguro olvidamos. Si estuvo todo planeado desde el principio, es realmente increíble!

¡Me encanta descubrir el pasado! Toda la historia de Shiro, Yuri y Satán me está resultando muy interesante. Satán no está siendo para nada como imaginaba. Sus inicios en el mundo humano me han sorprendido bastante y su relación con Yuri me ha gustado mucho. También me encanta la relación de Shiro y Yuri, nunca había pensado que fuera tan estrecha. Estoy deseando leer el trágico desenlace de la historia y ver cómo nacieron los gemelos.

Wow. We finally learn about Yuri's twisted love story with Satan. Just when I was beginning to think she loved Fujimoto. I have a suspicion that she never loved Satan like that, but she pretended to for everyone else's survival (possibly?). I just find it hard to believe she fell so deeply in love with him. Especially when she was crushing on Fujimoto.
Also, that moment where Satan snapped at Mephisto was hilarious. Mephisto thought he could negotiate, lol. His face was priceless.

cuatro estrellas porque no sale Yukio hasta el material extra y porque todavía me incomoda que Yuri haya sido como la mamá de Rinka por un rato. Aún así me gustó mucho, el personaje de Yuri es muy lindo (a mi parecer), me gusta su dinámica con Shiro. Creo que lo que más me gustó de este volumen fue como incorpora cosas que ya habían salido antes (lo de Shura y lo de la espada), pero lo profundiza y la actitud de Shiro cuando sabe que Yuri está embarazada, si supiera lo que le espera al pobre.

Podróży w przeszłość ciąg dalszy i choć jest to nadal fajne, tak nie mogę pozbyć się wrażenia, że to jednak filler. Potrzebny, ale jednak. Będziemy mieli tu okazję zobaczyć, jak się to stało, że matka Rina i Yukio spiknęła się z samym Szatanem.
Przy okazji zobaczymy też co porabiał Shiro i co w ogóle miał wspólnego z całą tą tragedią. Kolejny tom to ta sama stylistyka, co poprzednio i jest ona nadal bajeczna. Fantastyczna seria.

Ich kann diese Arten von Romanzen nicht ab, bad guy, der von der Liebe einer empathischen Frau gerettet wird. Wirklich nicht und hier haben wir sie gleich doppelt. Ich verstehe es nicht. Ich mag es nicht.
Aber Rins Reaktionen auf das Vergangene sind sehr authentisch, man trifft viele Figuren und lernt etwas über sie, die auch im Jetzt eine Rolle spielen.

Cada tomo me hace sufrir más... Estamos llegando a unos niveles de tensión, que la obra parecía mucho más simple en su comienzo. Sin duda de las mejores obras manga que se pueden leer actualmente en España.

I loved getting the background on Yuri and Father Fujimoto but it felt as if I had missed reading some panels when I turned the page. I felt the story jumped around without filling in information. I can't wait to see the rest of this story arc.

Satan possesses a body and eventually fathers children on Yuri.
This is still backstory/flashback/time travel of Rin and Yukio's mother. It's well done so I don't miss the present day team as much but I'm still ready to be done with this part.

It took me a while to remember what I had already read but this is getting good! Satan was funny for a moment here. Also not fond of seen Yukio again.
