This was a really helpful introduction that focuses on how to do a close reading. It is well thought out in that is slowly introduces concepts, builds on them and returns to them. The coursework and exercises are helpful but I am not really sure what 'level' it is working at (A Level, Undergrad, Postgrad?). It also helps you understand things about doing English Lit as well as the technical side. I have made lots of notes but I will definitely be keeping my copy to look back on.

Two major downfalls:
1. It is out of print (so it hard to get a readable copy) and
2. The proofreading is sloppy (wrong names means it's hard to answer some questions, too much additional punctuation and so on).

Both of these problems could be solved by a second edition with an updated reading list, seeing as most of the books are from the 80s and most Lit courses prefer recent publications, than older ones.
