There is high adventure aplenty, but this is a warm and sensitive recording of this close-knit family's journey -- Jamie, Marjorie, and Stuart, who was 11 at the start. This book is a most enjoyable read. Besides much excellent advice for bluewater sailors, appendices include Preparing for Medical Emergencies, by Darrell Wyatt, M.D.; Finding Medical Help Abroad; Correspondence Schools; Radio Communications; and Mail Forwarding Services. 192 pages, 8?? x 11?, 47 regional charts and sketches, 66 photos, and a route chart inside the back cover. There are no harbor charts.
I can always enjoy a good sail-around-the-world (from my armchair) and this was especially interesting because of how doable it seemed: five years, 30' boat, two parents with a 11-16 year-old son. A favorite part was how Marjorie always threatened to get off at the next port after a long passage, and "Bless her heart, she never did!"
