Sir Darrin de Longue is desperate to get his lands back from Lady Faith de Sainte-Marie, the woman who betrayed him and may have had a hand in his father’s murder. But when King Richard discloses a secret on his deathbed—that Lady Faith is the king’s daughter—and then issues an ultimatum, Darrin has no choice but to obey. In order to reclaim his lands, he must marry Lady Faith and get her with child in a year’s time.
Without Love, She’ll Remain a Wife In Name Only
Left on a doorstep as a babe, Lady Faith has always been grateful for the home she was provided. Since childhood, she has loved the rowdy and bold Sir Darrin, but cannot be a true wife to the bitter, angry man whom she has wed. In order to gain his trust and love, she vows to find the truth about his father’s murder. But when she stumbles upon some dark and deadly secrets, will she be able to prove her innocence—and his—to erase the past and win Darrin’s heart?
Olivia Rae spent her school days dreaming of knights, princesses and far away kingdoms; it made those long, boring days in the classroom go by much faster. Nobody was more shocked than her when she decided to become a teacher. Besides getting her Master’s degree, marrying her own prince, and raising a couple of kids, Olivia decided to breathe a little more life into her childhood stories by adding in what she’s learned as an adult with her first Christian romance series, The Sword and the Cross Chronicles. When not writing, she loves to travel, dragging her family to old castles and forts all across the world.
What a story. Sir Darrin just wants his lands back from Lady Faith. When he’s told that the Lady is the King’s daughter, has no choice but to obey. Loved it. Totally fascinating
My review today is on the Medieval Romance, Adoration. This is book five in the Sword and the Cross Chronicles. I can't tell you how much I have enjoyed this series. I can't believe I'm going to have to wait a long time for the next one. I really enjoy the way Olivia writes her stories. I liked Darrin when he was but a thief in the forest. He was much like Robin Hood. Now to learn he was really a noble who had been betrayed by the woman he loved. This book is well written, full of action, and all kinds of twists. You are going to love it.
Sir Darrin de Longue was a noble who was accused of killing his father. What hurt the most was the woman he loved testified against him. He fled to England and lived in the forest. He became a thief and had many men under his command. When his best friend married (book four) he decided to return to France with King Richard. The king had promised to restore his home Chateau du Vent Doux. The king is injured and he calls for Darrin. He confesses that Faith de Saint-Marie is his legitimate daughter. To receive his home Darrin must marry Faith (the woman who had betrayed him) and get her with child within the first year. Then he must give her the chance to become queen if she so desired. The king then dies. Darrin goes home to take over his heart full of bitterness and anger. He throws out his uncle who he believes really killed his father. He marries the woman he has come to hate as much as he once loved. Now to seek vengeance over them all
Faith de Saint-Marie had been brought to the Chateau when she was but four. She never knew her parents but had been left at a convent. A nun had come with her to the Chateau and took care of her. She and Darrin had played as children and she has loved him since she was but a child. She was forced to testify against Darrin by his uncle who would kill the nun if she refused. Now the uncle is forced to leave and Faith is married to Darrin his first night at home. She refuses to sleep with him since he is an unbeliever. She finally makes a deal with him if he will go to the daily prayers for one month she will become his wife.
Something is going on in the Chateau. Sheep being stolen, animals being slaughtered, and Darrin stabbed in the back. Who was trying to destroy the Chateau or run Darrin off. This is a struggle of two heartbroken souls brought together by a king trying to make sure his child would have the chance he wanted for her. They must learn to trust each other as the attacks keep coming. God has a plan for these two, a plan for a hope and a future. God has a plan for you too, a good plan and not for evil. Give Him your life and let Him do something with it.
Olivia Rae pens another winner with this next installment in her series. Adoration is a thrilling addition jam-packed with mystery and plenty of excitement. This story centers on Sir Darrin and Lady Faith, childhood friends torn apart by lies and deceit. Finding their way back to each other, is a journey filled with intrigue, faith and love. I so enjoy how the author uses her characters to portray God’s truth. Things that stuck with me: how Darrin realized to become a respected leader he needed to first serve his people and how Faith realized telling the truth no matter the consequences was the right course of action. “In order to be a fair and good lord, you must also be a good servant to others.” Great character development and engaging and entertaining plot. Looking forward to Sir Theo’s story.
CENTRAL FEMALE CHARACTER: Lady Faith de Saint-Marie.
CENTRAL MALE CHARACTER: Sir Darrin de Longue; Darrin Longbeard
SYNOPSIS: After 10 years, the King has allowed Darrin to return home but with severe conditions. He must marry the woman that he hates. As the plot goes on, someone is trying to get Darrin out of his beloved home as accidents around the Chateau continuously occur. Somewhere, surely there must be a traitor.
RATING: (4) stars BECAUSE the plot is a mystery and very simply I find mysteries very confusing. I love this series and because the writer is an excellent writer in this entire series, I give 4 stars.
Rae gripped my heart again. I cheered for Darrin and Faith to overcome the hurt feelings from their past and for them to grab hold of love. Rae is back with her Medieval flare and an enticing story set around kings and knights. The death of King Richard uncovers secrets and intrigue as Darrin returns home to clear his name and claim Faith as his bride. Faith places God at the forefront of their relationship and bides time to answer questions locked away in the trunks of the dead. Rae keeps the story moving with witty dialogue and feisty characters—characters you will side with in any battle.
I loved this series. I love stories from the timeline of Kings and Queens. There is enough history to make it really interesting. I loved the stories of all the characters and their struggles with their Christianity. I wish this series would go on and on.
One of the better stories in the series, even if the central relationship felt a little like insta-love. I think this was a little more grounded in the period and felt more authentic than some of the previous titles.
I should not have left quite such a long gap between reading them though as I tend to forget who the characters are and how they are connected.
Love all of Ms. Rae's books. This was didn't fail my expectations. Darrin and Faith must overcome past hurts to discover the truth around the death of Darrin's father. The ending was a surprise. A lot of action in this one and a nice little mystery.
Sometimes proof is overwhelming. Especially when you’ve witnessed betrayal with your own eyes. And then the unexpected happens. In this Historical Christian Romance, Rae presents believable characters and a rich period setting that at times made me shiver inside the walls of the Medieval castle.
Murder, betrayal, knights and romance; this has it all. I cannot recommend Olivia Rae’s books highly enough. Everyone has had me gripped from page one and this is no exception.
This installment in the series is worth the wait! It was very touching and inspiring! It was hard to put it down. You will love the characters and hopefully be inspired.
