Mysterious necromancers. Wicked summoners. Fierce witches. Occasional familiars. Military experiments. Secret councils. Forbidden alliances. The Academy of Ancients will suck you in. Briar’s gone from being an aimless foster child to being a witch at Academy of Ancients. She’s not just any ol’ witch, she’s one with two elements. And not only that, she’s one of a kind, evidently. So rare that she’s sought after by a paranormal military cadre. Zach can’t reach his brothers. His efforts to keep Briar safe keep him knee-deep in trouble. And as if that’s bad enough, he’s hell-bent on trespassing on property that Academy has deemed off limits. He wants to explore an abandoned and condemned building nicknamed the cathedral. And in the meantime, at Academy of Ancients, more students are disappearing. Carter’s pretty much zombified, and there’s this general who seems to have it out for Briar. Can’t a teen witch get a break? This series will hook you! Violence can be found in this series of action-packed fantasy, with necromancers, summoners, and badass witches.
This book continues Briar and Zach's story. Zach and Briar are not allowed to spend time together after events in the first book. They stay in contact via texts and are still in a relationship. Briar is dealing with significant pressure and threats. The mystery at the Academy from the first book develops and is revealed in this book. Pieces are resolved while a larger scope mystery is unfolding for the next book. There was action and new characters introduced. Book held my interest and I am moving on to the next one. Amazon has a five book omnibus which was a better value than buying each individually. Series so far is enjoyable but these books are not standalones.
The second Academy of Ancients book in Avery Cross' magic series finds Briar finishing her trials and ready to begin her second year at Academy. Briar finds out who her Father is and what really happened to her mother. With the discovery of undead and a powerful Necromancer on campus in the old building simply called The Cathedral....Briar might have to find her true strength and fierce determination....Book three is called Catalyst and I'm looking forward to listening to it.....
Briar finds out she has a sister, finds out who her father is, what happened to her mother and who raised her; Zach finally gets in touch with his brothers (who help him out with Briar), finds out what really happened to his dad and graduates from the Academy. Mix all that in with the magic, necromancers, all for a fantastic read.
This segment was just as good. I loved how the characters grew and matured. The twists and turns were intense, some expected some not. Looking forward to the next segment
Briar and Zach are students at a college for witches and warlocks—powerful ones. It takes all of their powers, along with a trusted team, to defeat dreadful necromancers and powerful enemies to survive the school year.
Action personified. There’s no correctly guessing what will happen next. I need to get to bed, but I really want to stay up and read the next book in the series.
