I’m a former journalist turned full-time author who began writing at an early age. Growing up on science fiction, horror and action movies more than cartoons, where the stuff of my dreams (or nightmares) quickly evolved into the short stories I shared with classmates. Well, nothing much has really changed since, except nowadays I write for your enjoyment and reading pleasure.

I published my first YA dystopian trilogy The Mind Breaker in 2016, and I’m currently working on a new series. I mostly write science fiction with plenty of action and adventure, but appreciate any good stories with lots of unexpected twists and turns.

Buckle up- it's gonna be a rough review.

I read the first book and was undecided. The writing is immature but the story seemed interesting enough to keep me reading. I got about half way through this second book in the series and almost gave up. I almost stopped reading not only because of the amaturish writing but also because of the main character and predictable plot. I really only kept reading because of Wreck's character. Wreck is a really great character, and I like him even more because we only see him through Kora's perspective. You never fully know what's going through that boy's mind, and I found that only enhanced my curiosity and fondness of his character.

I also kept reading because I was interested in seeing how the ending played out. Not only did the story become somewhat predictable, but the ending is a cliff hanger because I think that's a ridiculous tactic the author uses to keep you reading on to the next book.

Honestly, a big part of my dislike of the book is my dislike of the main character, Kora. I just didn't find her believable. She seems to be a collection of contradictions, which may be what the author wanted. One minute she is weak, being submissive, trusting those around her, and making some really stupid decisions. Then in the next paragraph, she is untrusting of everyone around her, magically knowing how to fight with only 2 weeks of training against highly trained soldiers, and seemingly clever in her leadership abilities. I found her more irritating than heroic, which is unfortunate because the entire story is written from her perspective. Wreck is much the same; consistently seeming to contradict himself. It boggles my mind that while I found Wreck intriguing with his contradictions, Kora was the exact opposite. How can the same author write both of these characters into existence- doing a great job with one of them and making the other one so frustrating? I have no idea.

I give it three stars because the story was interesting. The world building is good, and I appreciate how original the world is. However, I think I'm done with the series for now.

Second book of the series, so have to read the first book Kora first to understand what's going on. And if you've read the first book, you've already experienced how dark and violent the series is. This book is even darker. It also deals with bullying, rape, peer pressure, depression, and suicide. I wouldn't recommend reading this if those are very sensitive topics for you. There's a lot of action in the book, as well as a few beautiful moments. Overall, I loved the book and couldn't put it down. Instead of spending my day off out of the house, I may have stayed at home and read all day... The writing is great, plot is exciting, and characters are so, so real.

I really enjoyed the 2nd part of Kora's story. She is such a strong character and is very driven to find freedom for herself and others. She is goal oriented, yet very loyal to her friends. When life becomes unsafe because of Tartis, Kora and Wreck need to escape from him and his followers. Along the way Kora has to deal with her feelings about Trent, from her old village, and some serious trust issues with Wreck.
The story line is intriguing and I couldn't get enough. I can't wait for part 3!

Once again I couldn't stop reading at all!

Kora still don't trust Wreck but she still needs/uses him.
Both of them are not right in the head!!
She's being a idiot with Trent, she's a (stupid) teenager "in love" in a world that falls apart.
She's still struggling to find herself.
Wreck and Kora need to escape Tartis and fight for their life.
Will Bastion be a good place to accomplish her destiny? Will she be able to save everyone?

Awesome read. Well written with a great plot and characters. I was engrossed from start to finish. Kora and her partner find somewhere safe.....but eventually they figure out it isn't safe and they are running again. I can't wait to see how friendships continue to form. I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
