Lana Mckensize knows what's it's like to crash and burn. Her life's been on a collision course with disaster for some time. Crushed and embarrassed she makes a break for it, escaping to the safety of a friend's home out of town. Little does she know this trip will change her life. Another collision brings a new man into her orbit. Everything about Kayden Capshaw rubs her the wrong way. Spoiled and entitled, the son of a socially prominent builder thinks he can buy his way out of everything. The one thing he can't buy is Lana's affection. Forced together during a storm, a steamy romance develops. This time the collision leads to love. Kayden's manipulative mother has other plans throwing Lana's life once again into turmoil. Lana is forced to make hard choices, protecting the man she loves as well as her own future. Full of fascinating characters, RL Jackson writes a contemporary romance with enough twists to keep the reader engaged from start to finish.
Kayden is a flawed man, a very flawed man. I must say, he got on my nerves in the beginning. I couldn't understand why he wouldn't just take charge of his life. And I really thought that some of his troubles could have been prevented. Lana on the other hand, I adored immediately. She's a caring, compassionate individual. She's in town to get away from her dumb ex and his even dumber new girlfriend when she runs into Kayden. Or well, he runs his car into hers. Instead of sticking around like a mature guy, he runs off! She doesn't see him again until he crashes into something and someone else! Lol. By then I really needed Kayden to get his act together. If you've read the blurb you know that the two characters get stuck in a house together. This starts off uneasy but they soon discover that they are very attracted to each other and start divulging things about their lives, their pasts and their troubles. These scenes were very touching and really showed a diffent side to Kayden, since you could see that he was a man carrying the weight of the world. But just when you start thinking that these two lovers actually might actually have a chance at a happy ending, Kim, Kayden's ex shows up. And then Kayden's mother, who truly is a vindictive witch. She manages to cause a LOT of trouble. Read this one. It's not too steamy, but the romance is there and the author managed to create characters with great backstories and unique personalities. A solid four star read.
There's just enough backstory of the characters and the settings were quite descriptive. Lana as well as Kayden were favorable characters, since their personalities were realistic and revealed the human mindset, internal struggles and how each individual deals with and approaches certain situations in their lives.
I read this book now because the second book is supposed to be released by the time I post this review. And as I am not a big fan of sitting on cliffhangers I try to keep my reading together as much as possible.
Drawn to this book by its plot description I was in for a rude awakening because I did not expect that I would find it this difficult to connect with the writing style of the author.
The plotline felt jumpy and timeline not always right.
But my biggest issue came with the male lead. To say I did not like him would be putting it mildly - I flat out dislike him honestly. Given all his background and stuff his actions are really OUT OF CONTROL like the blub says just not in the way i would have thought.
Sorry, I usually do not spoiler but running people of the road, running off , DUI and almost killing people in the process is not what I would call "a party-boy taht is still struggling with the death of his brother, trying to make amends with his sister and avoid his overbearing mother."
Well written and very engaging, with brilliant humour. With a wonderfully sweet setting- a picturesque little snow filled town. Filled with clever, unforeseen twists and a fabulous cliffhanger ending. Crashing Into Me is ripe for sequel continuation.
Lana is fabulously independent, super sassy but with terrible taste in men that already led her to being dumped at the altar a year before. The only thing I didn't like was the unbalanced characterisations of: Kayden, his mother and Kim.
Kayden spent 3/4 of the novel acting like a jerk, before suddenly deciding it was time to pull his act together instead of getting on everyone's nerves for the final 1/4 of the book. The repeated DUI & texting car accidents were annoying- portraying a first reader impression of Kayden as having a bad personality combined with a huge sense of entitlement; indicative of dangerous idiocy topped off with a massive ego and the attitude that anything goes. This really hampered the author's attempts to make Kayden seem more likable early in the book.
Kayden's mother and Kim are both vile, vindictive pieces of work- cardboard cut outs of nasty. The old cliche of beautiful on the outside but nasty underneath. Too one dimensional and unrealistic for my taste- both seem to be depicted as mirror images of each other and lacking any genuine positive features at all.
I hope book 2 will crash into me with a unpredictable beginning....I give 4 stars because I am hopeful about the author's ability to craft a good cohesive story..it's easy to follow...and easy to love...
This is the first book i have read by this author. This was one amazing book. What a storm indeed. The ending wow. Leaves you hanging with so many unanswered questions. Lana wanted a break. A month long vacation away from everyone and everything. She agrees to housesit for her best friend. Little does she know that she is going on quite the adventure. It all starts when she is ran off the road by Kayden. Then Kayden plows through the restaurant she is at. Then he is staying at the same house that she is. Surprise surprise Kayden is her best friend's brother. Through a snow storm wild things happen between these two. Add a nasty mother and a girl who wont give up into the mix and you have quite the storyline. But Paula the best friend and sister finds out the truth and comes to the rescue but will it be enough? Loved the storyline and the characters. I cant wait to see what happens in the next one.
It's funny sometimes how the book with the simplest plot just finds a way into your heart. I may not agree with all of the actions and decisions made in this book but I like this author's style. I love how the story played out and man the cliff hanger?? Priceless. The characters well they need some help. Kayden with all of his baggage has started to turn his life around after meeting Lana. She helps him face his demons and calls him on his crap, something no one has done. Lana, well she is another issue. Someone needs to teach her how to put her big girl panties on and stop being a push over. Which is funny cos she is strong but when it came to choosing whether to stand up to his mother and psycho woman she backed off for her own reasons.
Either way it goes this isn't a standalone so don't cry when the blurb gets you and you find out you need the second book cos you do. This is the debut read for this author and it is very well done. Can't wait to read the next book in the series. The good thing is it will be out real soon so you wont have to wait.
I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review.
Having read the synopsis of this book it sounded right up my street. To be honest, I struggled with the first 25% of the book, I found it quite hard to read, the text was a little to descriptive for my tastes, and I kept loosing the plot. There were also parts of the story that didn't really flow or make sense, which I will mention later on in the review. However, I soon found myself immersed in the blackmail and romance of the book and read the rest of the book in a few hours.
Lana McKenzie an ER Nurse is jilted at the altar, feeling like she needs to escape it all she takes a vacation to the mountains to stay in her best friends house, whilst her and her husband are away. She then meets her best friends brother who also comes to stay, hearing his Sister is out of town. They meet for the first time (which I found slightly odd if they have been best friends for years?!) Kayden has it all, money, a sports car and seems to have the perfect life but has a wealth of guilt that he is carry with him.
I struggled to like Kayden throughout the book, at thought he did redeem himself towards the end of the book, I felt like I was reading about two completely different characters he seemed to change in one paragraph. For instance he start the book with him drink driving and speeding causing an accident and damage to a property, having crashed a car years ago killing his brother and injuring himself?! Why would he do that, then suddenly his reckless behaviour stopped?!
As the book progresses both characters find themselves being drawn together, but Kayden's Mother has other ideas and tries to put plans in motion for her Son to take over the family business which does not include Lana.
The book finished on a huge cliff hanger, and definitely has me wondering what will happen next!
Okay, i loved this book and so very glad i got an opportunity to read this book. This really reminded me of the "fifty shades of grey" series but with a personal twist. I had no problems with the writing nor did i have any problems with the plot-line itself.
The only problem i had was the pace, it was quite inconsistent- at some parts it felt too fast and at some parts it felt too slow. Thats the only reason i'm giving it 4 stars and not 5.
I am a sucker for clichè romances and this book gave me a dramatic and great one. Definitely woyld reccomend people to read this.
There was a lot to like about this book, but also a lot that was puzzeling. Didn't realize they had severe snow storms in Georgia for one. Didn't get how the male protaganist was not held responsiible for Lana's car repairs or how he could cause a serious injury to another character and not get arrested, rich or not. The ending was unsatisfying. Will there be a sequel?
This book was so much more than I expected. It started and ended with car crashes/accidents. This book is full of drama, jealously, lies, secrets, sacrifice, love, and HOT sex. Throw in a psycho ex girlfriend and a evil, manipulative mother and this book is one I didn't want to put down. I really hope Book Two will be coming out soon. What happened to Kayden and Lana??????
Pretty good story. Kayden and Lana could have both used a little bit of backbone and common sense. Curious to see how things play out for this couple in book 2
‘It was only a year ago when he abandoned her at the altar. Hard to forget a face like that.’
Florida author R.L Jackson is an independent filmmaker, magazine editor and screenwriter as well as an author of growing stature. Her series THE CRASHING SERIES of which CRUSHING INTO ME is Book One shows promise of a very well skilled romance writer – a ringmaster of a dark circus of players whose identities may be a bit difficult to isolate at times but whose interaction produces a fast paced ride guaranteed to keep your attention and your adrenaline high.
RL wastes no time getting us involved in her tense story. In the first few paragraphs she gives a well painted portrait of her heroine and a solid hint of the problematic relationship to come ‘The bagel bite Lana Mckenzie just put in her mouth was like ambrosia from Greek mythology. She had just gotten off work and having not eaten all day, couldn’t pass up the crispy cheesy morsel being passed out by the sample lady in the store. Mentally, she added them to her grocery list and pushed her rattling shopping cart away, as she eyed the remaining samples; concerned she might devour the entire tray. Her legs felt like lead, and her feet were sore after having stood on them the previous fourteen hours at the hospital. Thankfully, she made the decision to change out of her sneakers and into flip flops in the parking lot, giving her tootsies some relief. Usually, she’d make a beeline straight home and soak her feet to try and stave off any blisters before work the next day, but that wouldn’t be the case for her tonight. The four-week vacation she’d been dreaming of started the next day and she couldn’t wait to “veg” out on the couch and do absolutely nothing. The thought gave her a small jolt of excited energy as she continued to push the cart towards the frozen food section, in search of her evening dinner. It wasn’t late yet, just after eight in the evening, but the store was packed with people and only three registers were opened at the moment. She yawned at the thought of waiting in the checkout line and wished she’d gone home instead, but there was nothing to eat in her apartment other than microwaveable popcorn and she was absolutely ravenous. Her pale blue scrubs were wrinkled, and her thin frame was engulfed in the oversized cotton mess. She looked more like she’d just rolled out of bed than spent the whole day saving lives as an E.R Nurse at Broward General. Lana’s black curly hair was piled in a messy bun, and any traces of makeup on her face was long gone. As she stopped in front of the ice cream freezer and eyeballed a tub of Ben and Jerry’s, she caught a glimpse of her reflection in the glass door. She ran her hand through her hair in a sad attempt to fix it. No dice. This should be a crime, she thought and decided it was time to make a quick exit. She reached in and grabbed the tub of Chunky Monkey ice cream, threw it in the cart, and pushed around the corner. Suddenly, she stopped dead in her tracks. Across the aisle, less than ten feet away from her, there he was. Her ex Samuel, and he was with her. It was Joanna, one of the hospital administrators where they all worked and a notorious gossip. Lana was convinced she had her eye on Sam the entire time they dated. Lots of the female staff had a thing for him and that was the price she paid, for dating in the workplace.’
Whoever supplies the author with a plot synopsis is excellent – ‘Getting dumped at the altar nearly broke Lana McKenzie beyond repair. A year later, she was working to rebuild her life. Until a face from her past forces her to seek an escape. Tucked away in a beautiful, secluded mountain estate, Lana finds her solace. That is until she comes face to face with her new roommate. Kayden Capshaw is a handsome, out of control party boy whose grief has pushed him to a much-needed getaway in his house on the mountain. But Lana was the last person he expected to find there. She’s feisty, stubborn, and undeniably gorgeous. He’s arrogant, flashy, and hotter than the sun. She’ll do anything to stay away. He’ll do anything to get close. As the ice between the two melts, unwelcome guests threaten to interrupt the delicate fabric of their new relationship. Will their fiery passions continue to burn bright or will outside forces put out the flames for good?’
All the ingredients for a passionate and complex romance are here and the manner in which RL Jackson stirs the broth promises one very fine series of THE CRASHING. Highly recommended
What a complicated, wild and immersive ride! It's been a while since i've been this drawn into any book and I'm one clicking the second book like now!!! I have to know what happens with Layda, lol my ship name for them.
Kayden and Lana end up at the same cottage. Her after a failed engagement and the not anymore fiancé shows up at a later date with a new fiancé. And Kayden that mages bad decisions in life after the loss of a brother. The two found that they actually enjoy each others company. They’re both coming together, finding an attraction with one another. Then enters Kayden’s ex girlfriend and throws a wrench in their growth. This book really brings together two people that turned out needing one another. I loved that they talked Ava found solace in one another. But eff the ex girlfriend and Kayden’s mother. Both were awful.
This is a new author to me, and I will certainly be looking out for her work in the future! This is also the 1st book in a new series. Lana needs to get away and rebuild her life after being left at the altar. Kayden is a playboy, who needs to take control of his life before it spirals out of hand. These two do not meet under the most normal of circumstances, but the chemistry between them is explosive. This is a well written story which is filled with drama, lies, secrets, and love, which all had me hooked and intrigued throughout, and I cannot wait to read the 2nd book in this riveting series.
An incredible book with an incredible storyline and characters. This book will keep you turning pages and anticipating the next book Crashing No More! Lana McKenzie was heading to Hamby, GA to housesit for one of her best friends when she was literally crashed into by a man that would become a prominent feature in her life Kayden Capshaw. Kayden had screwed up his entire life and now after this latest incedent, Lana seemed to be the one who set him on the right course. Although his family seemed to have very different plans for him.
