Becoming a sports reporter isn't just my dream job--it's my calling.

I've been sketching the blueprint for my future since I was an overly ambitious ten-year-old:

Get accepted into Windhaven University's journalism program? Check.  Score the sports section of the campus paper? Easy as pie.  Snag a once-in-a-lifetime internship? Currently in progress.
Everything's going according to plan...
Until a wrench in the form of a blue-eyed bad boy is thrown into the mix.

Vaughn Steel's the last athlete on Earth I want to interview for the most important article of my college career. He's unreliable. Impulsive. Has arrogance levels that have me ready to pull out my hair.

Oh...and did I mention he's gorgeous as sin? A wet dream in the flesh.

But so what?

So what if the guy's a total stud? So what if he's got a body sculpted by the gods?
So freakin' what if those electric eyes and lush lips have my insides doing backflips?

All I've got to do is make it through one semester with this cocky soccer player. End the year with a kickass article in one hand and my sanity intact in the other. Then I'm done with him. For good.

Easier said than done.

DNF @40%

As amazing as this book is, I’m sadly gonna have to dnf it.

Reasons for dnf’ing it:

○ too slow burn for my liking

○ too long like why isn’t this book over already?

○ I think there is more than enough development between them to finally get on with the relationship but the book obviously doesn’t agree with me

○ the so called “problem” that every book has? Well I’m pretty sure I know what its gonna be

○ I’m not patient enough to read another 100 pages for their relationship to progress and then read another 100 pages of them fighting and then the epilogue obviously patience is not one of my virtues

○ It's me not the book. I think I don't like reading college romances unless it has dark aspects

Anyway, I’m sure this book is amazing as I really enjoyed the second book in this series yes, I know, I’m stupid, I always mess up the order but like I said, it was too much of a slow burn for me.

I am OBSESSED with this sports romance. I’ve been on a kick (so punny) lately with these types of stories and McKinley May did NOT disappoint. The only sad thing is I have to try to patiently wait for the new one.

The story is told from alternating perspectives of Vaughn and Rayne. Vaughn is a collegiate soccer player with a past that many make assumptions on without knowing the truth. Rayne is a sports journalism student trying to make her name while, in the process unexpectedly winning the star forwards heart.

Sometimes in these types of stories I feel like the plot is rushed. McKinley May took her time to get readers into the relationship between these two. I almost felt like a third wheel at times, the silent observer which is what I want as a reader. I just can’t say enough about her writing.

I also am secretly jealous of Rayne and would have LOVED to have had a Vaughn in my life.

5/5 stars was an easy decision for me. If you want a sports romance that with make your heart smile, this is it.

DNF 2%. Writing style isn’t working for me. I knew I was out as soon as the opening paragraph broke the fourth wall.

“I’m pretty sure I’m cursed. Or have really bad karma. There’s even a strong possibility I’m a victim of a voodoo doll spell. Whatever the case, there has to be some explanation why first days of school and I just don’t mix. Not one bit. Oil and water look like the best of friends in comparison. Let me explain. It all started on the first day of fourth grade. . .”

Young adult sports romance. this was pretty good for a debut story. I enjoyed reading Rayne and Vaughn's story. Rayne is a college junior working with the school paper. Her dream is to be a sport reporter. She has a chance to win an coveted internship and needs to make sure that she has a great year. Her editor wants her to get the scoop on Vaughn Steel better known as Steel Blue the soccer star. His past is messy and his story is something he does not like to talk about. Rayne knows what was previously reported and has formed a negative opinion about Vaughan. After meeting him and hanging out with him. her feelings change. Vaughn is a great character that you will fall in love with. Rayne is strong, independent and holds her own against Vaughn and his peers. He is arrogant, egotistical, yet sweet and lovable. The story is fast paced and fun. I look forward to reading more from this author.

“The Goal Girls are a “group of enthusiastic young women devoted to supporting Windhaven Warrior’s Men’s Soccer Team”, according to their website.
Here’s a more accurate description: They’re cleat-chasers.
And fucking dedicated ones at that. These girls show up everywhere. And I mean everywhere.
Practices? Wouldn’t miss ‘em.
Conditioning? Always there bright and early, ready to watch us suffer.
Away games? I’m convinced they have some sort of sponsor with the amount of dough they must spend on travel expenses.
Don’t get me wrong, there are a small handful of them who are truly fans of the game, involved with the organization solely because they love soccer.
But the majority of the girls are here because they want to snag a future pro player and the luxurious lifestyle that comes with a professional paycheck”
HELP WHAT IS THIS IM SORRY

“And do I really care about spilling his stupid secret?
Nope. I really don’t.
I don’t know why I didn’t come up with this plan myself, honestly.
I type out a quick reply and hit send.

I’ll do whatever it takes to get his story.”

This is gonna end badly. Also she’s like “he’s an asshole” but like doesn’t know him at all. Oml okay when they first meet up she’s just like he’s an asshole and yeah he is kinda one but she’s just one of those characters who’s annoyed just to be annoyed like idk it reads as whiny.

“I’m not dealing with anymore of your crap. No bars. No rowdy friends. Just you and me getting down to business.”
“Getting down to business? I like the sound of that.”
She lets out a little groan after realizing her innuendo. “Shit. You know what I mean, Steel.”
“We’ll see. See you Saturday”

This writing is so bad I’m sorry just like it’s so elementary,

“Believe me, Lex. He’s so freaking arrogant and inconsiderate it lowers his 'hot-or-not' score significantly. I'm talking like five entire points off.”

Like it’s just so......

“Are you fucking kidding me? Where did you go?” I hiss.
I hear him laughing on the other side of the phone.
Laughing.
Oh, hell no.
“Does this amuse you, Steel? Is this funny to you? You have absolutely no sense of the socially acceptable way to interact with other people, no sense of manners, responsibility, or—”
“Whoa, Hurricane Rayne. Chill. You’re like a damn thunderstorm right now. Slow down. Take a deep breath. Relax.”
His stupid commands do nothing to calm me, and I continue my tirade.
“I need you to cooperate with me! This is getting ridiculous. You can’t just forget our plans.” I let out a deep exhale before uttering my next sentence. “You are making this so much harder than it needs to be, and I’m starting to get really frustrated with you.”
His tone immediately changes when he hears the seriousness in my voice. “I didn’t forget about you, I swear. I don’t want you to be upset with me.” He actually sounds sincere for the first time ever, so I give him the benefit of the doubt and hear him out. “I want you to meet me at the Treehouse in fifteen minutes.”

This is so poorly written and the characters r awful so far wow.

“Before I can stop myself, I’m sprawled out on top of the dark gray comforter, not even taking up a fourth of it. It’s soft and cozy and feels like I’ve just sunk into a big, bouncy marshmallow.
When I take a breath, I notice his pillowcase is dosed in the musky, alpine scent and—holy moly—it smells heavenly. I could definitely sleep in this bed. Hell, I could live in this bed.
Andddd now I’m officially feeling like a creeper.
Just as I’m about to hop off, a door in the back corner of the room opens and out steps Vaughn in a cloud of shower steam.”

This girl is geuniley so weird wtf. Like imagine knocking on someone’s door they don’t answer, so you barge in⁉️⁉️⁉️⁉️⁉️and then u creep around and then YOU LAY IN THEIR BED⁉️⁉️⁉️⁉️⁉️⁉️AND SMELL THEIR PILLOW⁉️⁉️⁉️⁉️

“I tap my foot on the ground impatiently. “I’ve had my fill, Steel, believe me. I had my fill of you the moment we met, and I don’t want any more.” I wave him off. “Go put on some damn clothes so we can get started.”
“If you insist.”
I let out a sigh of relief as he walks over to his dresser and yanks out a t-shirt and sweatpants.
I think I’m in the clear until he suddenly reaches down to undo his towel right then and there, and I get the feeling I’m about to see way more than I want to.
I squeal in protest before his ass is on full display.
“What the hell are you doing?! Get dressed in your bathroom!” I cover my eyes with my hands.
The man is crazy.”

I cannot WHY RU YELLING AT HIM U BARGED INTO HIS ROOM THEN LAYED ON HIS BED UR THE WEIRDO

“He is driving me up a damn wall. What is it going to take to get him to just sit the heck down and answer some questions?
I go over and sit in his desk chair, placing myself as far away as possible from his bed. Maybe this is his way of letting me know he doesn’t want to be involved with the feature. Maybe it’s his plan to annoy and tease me so much that I just refuse to do it and leave. A new tactic in his long line of media snubbings.”

I’m I can’t YOU BARGED INTO HIS ROOM HOW IS HE AN ASSHOLE FOR THIX OMG

“But for some odd reason, I want to make sure she has everything she needs for the piece. And it’s not only because Coach will kill me if I screw up, but also because I can tell this means a lot to her.”

Insta love 😀

“Rayne scratches her chin. “Any chance I could join the team? Pull a She’s the Man?”
Before I can tell her she’s way too hot to disguise herself as a dude”

This book is getting written number one on my suicide note

“No...beat’s not the right word. Completely smash, absolutely annihilate, stomp me into the dirt are far better ways to describe what just happened.
This girl is a FIFA aficionado. I wouldn’t even think twice if she told me she moonlights as a professional gamer.
“Damn, baby. I’m ready to propose right here and now. Would you like to be Mrs. Rayne Paine?” Weston cracks as he eyeballs her in astonishment. “Seriously though, nobody ever beats Steel.”

There’s so many grammatical issues in this and just the writing in general. The author uses excessive exclamation points and I like don’t see why at all. Like I’m not super big on grammar or anything but like it’s just gets to the point where it’s noticeable

“Whatchu got, Steel Blue?” He jogs up, leaving a small amount of space between us as I trap the ball and dribble forward. “You got nothing, that’s what!”
I crack a smile as the ball travels between my bright white cleats. “Your trash talk game is weak, bro. Please tell me you have more in store for the SMU game tomorrow. Or is your plan to spit such lame shit they fall over laughing and can’t get up?”

His nickname is Steel Blue......
He has bright white cleats yet practices everyday....okay

“Mondayish?”
She nods. “Yep. Mondayish. Definition: a way to describe something that really freaking sucks. Synonyms include, but are not limited to, horrible, shitty, borderline unbearable.”

I think they’re trying to make her quirky but wtf is this....
Also bestie the reason u hate Monday’s is capitalism

“watching a masterpiece be painted when done right. Two words, baby: Lionel Messi.”
She rolls her eyes as I begin heading the ball. “Four words for you, baby: Tom Brady. Peyton Manning. You’re gonna have to come up with something better than examples of good players to convince me.” She puts her hand to ear, egging me on. “I’m listening.”

The way they say baby is so frat boy and so 🙁

“I squint at her. “You’re really serious about this piece, huh? Look, don’t take this the wrong way, but isn’t it just for a shitty school newspaper?”
She lets out a small laugh. “I get that it seems weird how crazy I’m going over this, because you’re right, it is for a shitty school paper. But it’s also going to make up the bulk of my application for a StadiumScore internship, so it’s extremely important for my future career. Crucial, really.”
And now I'm feeling like a total dick for causing her so much stress last week. I had no clue she was banking on this to get her an internship.
“Damn, why didn’t you tell me before?”
She shrugs while I snatch her voice recorder. I bring it up to my mouth, speaking directly into it with my best newscaster impersonation.
“I hereby declare that I, Steel Blue, will personally see to it that Rayne gets the lusted after StadiumScore internship.”
She laughs and yanks it out of my hand. “Jeez, dude! Okay, Voice Recorder Rule One: No speaking that loudly and that close to the microphone. That’s going to scare the shit out of me when I[…]”

The fact he calls himself steel blue, and the fact “Jeez, dude!” exists is a crime. Also him being like ugh I was an ass when he rlly did one shitty thing and she was the weirdo.

“Fun?! What is wrong with you?” She grimaces. “I’m taking Calculus right now for my math credit, and it’s already killing me. Derivatives, integrals, it’s like I’m learning another language.”
I nod knowingly. “Yeah, it can be difficult, but to me that’s part of the appeal. I don’t like things that come easily to me. I want to work for the results. I want a challenge.
“Spoken like a true athlete,” she remarks before her expression sours. “But I don’t think Calculus is just a challenge for me. It’s more like the world’s most strenuous obstacle course.”
“You know, I could help you out. If you’re having trouble, text me a picture of your work and I’ll help you see where you went wrong,” I offer.
“Really?” Her mouth's gaping as if I just offered her my winning lottery ticket.
I raise my shoulders. “It's not a problem.”
“That would be great. Thank you.”

The writing 😁🙌

“Weston: When you gonna be back? FIFA tourney going on.
Weston: I’m tired of kicking Collin’s ass. Get over here.
Weston: Bring beer. Running low.

Rayne's eyes flick between me and my phone, intrigued.
“Another lady fan?”
“Worse. It’s Weston.”
I quickly type back a response.

Me: Dude you text like a chick. A stage 5 clinger chick. I’m w/ Rayne. Be back soon.
Weston: I can’t help it. I just love you so much Steel Blue <3 <3 <3 Ur the One 4 Me.
Me: Fuck you
Weston: Bring Rayne. She’s more than welcome to join us. She can be on my team ;)”

The texts🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌

“I look at her quizzically. “No drink for you?”
“No, I’m not twenty-one.”
“Okay…” I slant my head at her in confusion. “And?”
She lets out an annoyed exhale before snapping at me. “And what? I’m not going to apologize for being a law-abiding citizen.”
I relax into the booth and let out a chuckle. “Ah, okay. So you’re one of those girls.”
“What are you saying?” she questions, eyes narrowed over the rim of her glass as she takes a sip.
“You know the kind. Goody-goody. Stick-up-the-ass type,” I tease as she turns red as a damn tomato.
“There’s nothing wrong with being a rule-follower. And I do drink, Steel. Just not where an ID is required. You’re such a jerk!”
“No,” I argue, “I’m just telling it like it is. Más Mantequilla has the best strawberry margaritas in the entire state, and you’ve been missing out.”
“Oh, gee. How am I ever going to survive knowing I’ve been missing out on the state’s greatest margarita?” She sticks her tongue out. “I think I’ll live.”

I hope she gets shot at the stake

“I wasn’t planning on elaborating, but his interested expression encourages me to go on.
“My dad was all set to go play minor league baseball, but he gave that up to get a job and support the family. They struggled a lot, financially. Emotionally, too. Having a baby at eighteen is difficult, and neither of their parents were very supportive. I remember us living in this tiny, rundown studio apartment in a bad part of town when I was young. It was all they could afford at the time, but they worked their asses off to get us out of there. The year I turned nine, we moved to Hillcrest and life was a lot easier. They were finally stable enough to grow our family, and Stone was born soon after that.”

Girl giving her life story when he literally didn’t ask 😭

“She said no, dude. Either you leave her alone or you and I can go have a little chat outside. Choice is yours, buddy.”

Ofc we had to have random dude like lowkey sexually harass heroine so our hero could come save the day !

“What? Is it that hard for you to believe a girl wouldn’t be attracted to you?” I joke.
He musses his dark hair. “Nah, I’d believe that.” A cocky grin slips out. “I mean, I’d have to assume they’re blind or lesbian or something that physically prevents them from finding me attractive, though.”

......ok
The Hispanic character is a walking stereotype bc ofc

“And what I mean by that is it looks like the 1960’s threw up all over our house. Trust me, it’s not for the faint of heart.”

This seems racist somehow

“My question seems to achieve its purpose as she thinks about if for a moment. “I don’t know. Ever since I met you, I just feel like letting my girly side out. You make me feel like a woman, like I can express my feminine side.” She quirks her head and gives me a funny grin. “If that makes sense.”
“Totally does. It’s a natural reaction to my alpha-male masculinity.” I flex my biceps as she rolls her eyes.”

😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁
We learn that Weston doesn’t like talking abt his fam, idrc

“I’m Steel Fucking Blue. Pretty sure that makes me special.”

The name
———random interlude okay so I wanted to see who the next book was abt and I read spoilers and I’m sorry it looks so fucking dumb so I’m not gonna be reading🧍🏾‍♀️
“She finishes and shakes her head. “You're making a huge mistake. Throwing away an opportunity of a lifetime for a guy? I thought you were better than that, but I guess not.”

Dani spitting facts like girl ru dumb. Cuz mf was like yeah I wanna be a sport journalist and went to college for that and now u date one guy for like a month and ur like da,n journalists r actually mean to players no more career LIKE TF⁉️

“This is fucking weird, Syd. You can't just show up here out of the blue and act like everything's cool, like we're kids again.”
She sighs, picking at the hem of her shirt. “I know, I know. This is really weird.”
“So what are you doing here?”
“The thing is, I finally realized how incredibly immature it was to ignore you for all these years. It's not an excuse, but I was only fifteen when everything went down, and I was furious things weren't going to work out like I wanted. I was a selfish, self-absorbed little brat—”
I nod in agreement and she gives me a shove.
“—and blaming you for 'ruining' my Cali dreams seemed like the only option at the time.”
“Gee, thanks, sis.” I frown. “You know that was never my intention, right? I would never choose Dad over you, Sydney.”

Ghen the sister shows up and randomly forgives him bc the book refuses to have any sort of lasting conflict ever

Umm so I just found out this is her debut novel so I’ll say it wasn’t awful, it definitely wasn’t my cup of tea and I found the writing to be childish and very elementary however I’ll say that the romance was decent. Overall I didn’t enjoy the book tho, I thought the plot was weak and there wasn’t any challenges for anything like any major challenge was basically like resolved in 20 pages. The characters lacked any depth and were very very surface level and I also didn’t give a fuck abt them. Obviously it’s a romance novel but still it was Highly predictable I was sitting there reading and was like to my friend “waiting for them to break up for a dumb miscommunication reason and then like 20 pages later I was like they broke up” like it was so boring.

What happens?
Rayne is a sports reporter, shes on the college paper looking at getting a big intern position for a big news station. Her editor at the paper makes her do a big article on super football star Vaughn Steel, while emphasising the need to find out the big secret in Steel's past and expose it in the article.
Vaughn is made to cooperate with the reporter known as Rayne by his coach who wants the good publicity for Steel and for the football team. As he gets to know Rayne he realises she is more than the up tight reporter girl who is following him around.
Final thoughts
I really liked this romance. I found him and her a good match but I didn't enjoy the whole her finding out dirt on him. I could tell this was where the drop was going to be. I thought the side story of his past was also interesting but its never really resolved. No justice almost apart from his sister reconciling with him thanks to Rayne.

I originally read this book in June 2020 – I loved it then and still do. I waited and waited for the next book to release and then last week I come to find out 2 have been released!!! So you know I had to go back a reread this book ASAP.

Rayne writes for the college paper and dreams of being a reporter. The new (and scary) editor gives her the biggest sports story the school has seen - an article all about men’s soccer star Vaughn Steel. The one person on campus she cannot stand. Vaughn had a rough time growing up, his parent’s kind of suck. His image was tarnished after a blow up in high school nearly ruined his career but was able to continue to play soccer at Windhaven. Because of this he hates being interviewed or speak to reporters.

Their first interaction does not go too well, Vaughn is drunk and bit of a douche bag. Rayne is a no bullshit kind of person so that night does not go over well. Vaughn invites her to the preseason game and Rayne is genuinely shocked at his performance - he may be rude and cocky, but he does put in the work on the field.

During their first official interview at the tree house (a dream house) Vaughn finally appears a as a normal human. The article progresses and the two spend more time together via interviews and just hanging out. Rayne learns more about the true Vaughn and they become real friends. The more the friends hang out the harder it gets to ignore the attraction they have had for each other since the beginning. And one night, with a little bit of liquid courage, they stop fighting it and share a kiss that sparks a fire. After that night there is no going back, they are officially stuck in the honeymoon phase of this new relationship.

Rayne submits her article, but her editor is unhappy with it, she doesn’t want the that she wants the drama. Although Rayne initially said she was dedicated to getting the truth about his past that was before she really knew him before she fell for him. She can’t and won’t break that trust, so she quits. But her editor already put out a teaser article about what Rayne will be covering in the article, Vaughn sees it and is livid. How could he trust her? How could she do this to him? Both are miserable apart; Rayne blames herself and Vaughn is just generally confused. Lexie takes matters into her own hands and shares the real story Rayne wrote about Vaughn and he is blown away. Not only did she not write about his past but her story is absolutely amazing.

Now that Vaughn knows the truth, he has a new mission to get his girl back. At her last recreation volleyball game Vaughn approaches her to win her back and for his grand gesture. He also calls in some help and introduces her to one of the biggest sportscasters. Not only is she offered an internship on the spot but also a future job. Overwhelmed with emotion, the couple picks up right where he left off.

As a past soccer player, I absolutely loved this book – cannot recommend it enough. It is the perfect amount of funniness and steam; I can’t wait to read more about the treehouse boys. 4.8 overall rating & 2/4 steam.

This was wonderful. I totally loved this book, it was exactly down my alley and everything I was looking for.
My favourite genre ever are college sports romance and friends-to-lovers so this was exactly what I love the most.
Also, my favourite sport ever is soccer (which I hate to refer to as "soccer" since this is the true football, and American football should be referred to as "AMERICAN football", but this is beside the point).
I loved Vaughn, I loved his nickname "Blue Steel", it was really hot and I don't even know why.
The story was the best, I had a blast. The characters, all of them, were awesome. The plot was beautiful. I can't believe this was a debut novel, considering how good it was.
The only thing that can be said in my opinion that showed the inexperience or whatever of the author was the fact that there was a latino character, Diego, and his was of talking was overly exaggerated latin. All his lines were like too much of the Spanish words and that stuff, which made me laugh really, since I'm a Spanish speaker. Same with Liam, the British guy, in the way he talked it was like the author was trying to convey he was English, but it was a bit over the top with all the typical British words thrown together, it also made me laugh a bit. The last thing that had me laughing a bit was a moment at the beginning when Rayne said some basic soccer shit, something like "if you are playing FIFA against Barcelona you have to choose Real Madrid" and all the guys were blown away by her knowledge, when in reality that's like basic shit. considering she was interviewing the star player it was kind of wierd that they were blown away by that basic comment. It didn't really make a lot of sense.
But that aside, I can't say that it altered my opinion about the book whatsoever, since I totally loved it. It was perfect, and I can't wait to read Weston's book. I'm really mad though, that the first review on his book already has a huge spoiler, like somebody should do something about that.
I'm mad too, that I'll have to wait a lot for Cam's book, which I feel will be awesome as well.

Oh my gosh this book!!!! It’s way up there with the best sports romances written and from an upcoming author it really is a work
Of art. Vaughn ‘blue’ Steele is the perfect alpha hole.... so arrogant and I love it! Rayne is strong, fiery, independent and driven and boy does she make Vaughn work for her without even trying!
The story starts with Rayne being assigned to write about the star football player for their college paper, this requires her to get close to him and shadow him to which he finds quite annoying at first as it interrupts with his plans to ‘pull’ and party. Rayne has absolutely no messing from him and soon they come to an agreement where he wises up and she can get the job done. This part of the story is the perfect push and pull and is perfectly written. Not going to go into anything else as you need to read this complete work of art. It’s not just a girl meets boy, girl hates boy, boy falls for girl.. it is so much more and the problems they face are completely realistic which makes for a more relatable read!
Loved that this book is based on soccer or football if you are British like I am. Soccer is our American football so it nice to read about something more relatable.
The accompanying characters are amazing too. Loved Liam and Ellie they are hilarious... all I can say is peaches!!!!
Thankyou McKinley May for a fresh, new, addictive good read.

I had fun reading the book in general but there were some parts in the first few chapters when I was rolling my eyes and am just not satisfied with the writing. First of all, as soon as Rayne got her assignment article for their school newspaper, I already knew what the conflict was going to be. Second, despite how much of a good writer/reporter Rayne was as repeatedly mentioned in this book, her credibility for me took a hit when she didn't know what Vaughn looked like during their first meeting for an interview. How the hell can an aspiring sports reporter not be familiar with how the soccer superstar looked like??? Another thing is their banters just fell flat for me especially in the first part. After the high from reading Player by Natalie Rios and enjoying Allie's sass, Rayne just couldn't compare.

Still, I'm giving this 4 stars because I loved how light and fun it was. Characters don't always have to have complicated pasts and issues to make the story interesting for me. I liked that even though Vaughn had a bit of a troubled past, it wasn't made to be such a big deal in this book.

why is this book a favorite no clue. But it is. It’s about an amazing soccer player and a reporter trying to find out about his past to write in her article. she thinks he’s this stuck up jock with no brain, is a hoe, and is rude. But she realizes that that’s not who he is anymore and falls for him hard. but it also fits the trope where the guy fell first bc he had to convince her to let down her guard enough He found out about the reporting but at that point she had already quit the paper and said she wasn’t going to write about his past. so ofc the logical thing to do is to tell your bf/gf what happened. but she was in her way to do that logical idea when he got really mad bc the editor who told her to do it sent him and email with everything she had said. so basically they break up which sucks. until he realizes that she didn’t do anything wrong. she stuck up and was loyal to him and his secrets. they get back together and live happily ever after i assume.

*4.5 stars

WOW, I did not expect to find a new NA series to love when I started this book, but I certainly did. Maybe it was because of my low expectations, maybe it was the book itself - either way, I found myself hooked from the very beginning.

It was hilarious, sweet and steamy, I absolutely love sports romances when they play on all the feelings! I love the characters and can't wait until all the boys get their own books and love stories. All the friendships, both Rayne, Jess and Lexie's (I LOVE her) and the boys' were very entertaining to read about. It might not have been overall perfect, some things I disliked, but I liked it anyway.

"Hard As Steel" may be her debut novel, but it definitely sets a high standard for the rest of the series and I hope it's on the same level.

Great sports romance

Great debut sports romance. I loved the relationship between Vaughn and Raine. Loved that rain was not afraid to be who she is and did not change her personality to fit Vaughn. I loved how she made him humble.what kept me from giving this five stars was that towards the middle of the story it got a tad bit boring and I wanted to skip ahead but the ending was well tied in. I look forward to more from this author hoping Vaughn sister gets a book hopefully falling for his friend Cam not weston and weston gets one with lexi since I feel he needs a strong independent driven women at his side but will see.

Absolutely loved this! If you are a fan of college sports romances, like the Off-Campus series, then pick up this book now because you are going to love it. Vaughn and Rayne are so adorable together. The transition of their relationship was so enjoyable to experience. And I especially love when the athletic, non girly-girl gets the hottest guy on campus. Additionally, the secondary characters, who will eventually have their own book, was so well written, I can't wait until the next Treehouse Boys book is available. Excellent debut novel...I am anxiously waiting for Weston's story.

Too predictable couldn’t finish

I’ve read some good college romance but this was too predictable. Also Steel was so cocky and Rayne just had no brains. For a girl that’s supposed to be super motivated and career driven she become like a first romance teen. You totally see the conflict coming with the article. I’ve read many books in this genre and this one was just basic, maybe if it was the first or second one I’ve ever read I would’ve enjoyed it but now I would recommend the college series by Mariah Dietz instead

A romantic and engaging sports romance that was this author’s debut. Great chemistry between the two main characters as the two meet and are attracted to each other. I couldn’t help but be entertained by the author’s ability to write a fun and sexy sports romance. And, the supporting characters were just as enthralling with their amusing antics during every scene that they were included. So onto book two, Weston’s story....

The only reason I’m giving this book 4 stars is because I read book 2 first and that is literally a 7 star book IMO.
I loved these two they were adorable and it’s refreshing to read books where they’re actually FRIENDS and get to know each other before instalove and sex 😂
Don’t read this book AFTER book 2 though Jesus. Book 2 is a lot better and if you read it first your standards will be too high 😂😂

Meh. Honestly this book was a nice pick me up while I was really struggling over here but I didn’t really care to much about the characters. Honestly maybe I didn’t give the book a fair chance cause I was going through stuff but still just no my cup of tea. Also it took me much longer than usual to read this book because I simply didn’t have time so that might also be a big factor as to why I was so disinterested.

Great college sports romance

This book has all the feels. This book has the perfect ratio of storyline, steam and drama. It's got low angst, loads of chemistry and the two main characters are written well. I was cheering them on as I read. I couldn't put this book down. Looking forward to next in series.
Told from dual POV, we get an HEA, and no cliffhanger. Books do not have to be read in order.

I love steel

Cute funny and well written the camaraderie between the group of friends is well written. Can’t wait for the other boys although I would of liked an epilogue of steel and rayin a few years later on and that is my only issue. Just shows
What a good read it is if that’s the only thing I can pick at oh and can we have a few Man City mentions

4.5//overall this book was super fun to read and really enjoyable. I loved that it was a soccer college romance and steel was so funny and entertaining. rayne really impressed me with how nonchalant she was and basically did things for herself, not to impress others. loved this book, so many smiles and laughs while reading it

WOW WOW WOW...! I could not put this one down it had me grinning from ear to ear and laughing out loud! I loved Vaughn and Rayne and was swooning over their relationship. The banter between the two and even the banter amongst their friends was spot on and have me looking forward to reading the next installment.

I really enjoyed this story. I like college athlete romances and have read a lot of them. This one is different enough that it kept my attention all the way through. The athlete is a soccer star and the girl is a journalism student who wants to cover sports. The relationship starts out slow and builds at a nice pace. I definitely recommend it!

OMG I have fallen in love with this book. I can't wait to read more. Once you start reading it you will not be able to put it down. Vaughn and Rayne are perfect. What I like about this book is they don't wait till the end for the couples to get together. This series is the best I can't wait for the rest of the books

I really loved this book! Rayne and Vaughn were so cute and funny together. I love how everything ended even if the "conflict" was predictable. I don't get why the beginning spent so much time talking about Rayne's "curse" because it's never mentioned again or plays any part in the rest of the book. Still, I can't wait to read the second book and I'm hoping we get many more books.

One of the more enjoyable college sports romance books! I read the entire 560 page book in a few hours. Though it did remind me of another book, can’t exactly remember the title, but it was really similar!
