This book is excerpts from Emilie Barnes’ book, More Hours in My Day. I purchased both books and was disappointed to find that they included the same content, although this book is shorter and seems to be published as a sort of gift edition that you could give to a new homemaker.

These books were published in the 1990s and are almost completely obsolete because they were written at a time when managing your list of phone numbers or keeping spare change for phone calls were real considerations. Her advice mostly amounts to lists for organizing chores or making an inventory of items in your home. If you need these sorts of checklists, I imagine you could find better, more up-to-date lists by searching online.

It is hard for me to believe that Emilie Barnes’ books were helpful even in the 1990s, but apparently lots of women found them to be so. However, 30 years later, they are outdated and not relevant to the current work of homemaking. For anyone looking for a home organization book these days, I recommend Dana White and “How to Manage Your Home Without Losing Your Mind.”

Definitely dated, and there was nothing new in it for me (20 year sahm), but I so wish I had found this when I was first starting out. It would be a great gift for a newlywed or someone just leaving home and unsure how to manage it all.

I really found this book helpful. I am finally releasing it from my shelf at home.
