Charles's Bride

Rate this book
Charles:

I lost her five years ago, along with everything else. One second, I was driving my motorcycle and the next, I couldn’t remember my past.

And then, as chance would have it, I saw her again.

I didn’t know who she was, but I could feel it in my heart that she meant something to me.

So, of course, I had to have her—she was the key to the past—the answer to so many questions.

Not to mention, she was sexy as hell.

But, Becky was playing hard to get.

And I play for keeps.

Becky:

He broke my heart.

From the start, I should have known he was too good to be true. I was just an average, plain Jane kind of girl, and he was the high school heartthrob. Of course, it would never work.

And, it didn’t.

So, I learned to forget about him.

But, of course, life’s a bitch and brought him right back.

Will I be able to forget the past? Or will the future hold more heartbreak and deceit?

I want to pray for forgiveness but I’ve long started to doubt that word.

I think this used to be called Charles's Bride. The kindle book still shows the other title at the beginning of the text.

It depends on HUGE suspension of belief. He has amnesia due to a horrific accident that left him in a coma for 3 months. She never knew about the accident. After the accident, he basically went from rags to riches within 2 years. (Note: Apparently not scarred in any noticeable way by the accident.) 3 years after that he still has gaps in his memory when he runs into her. But it takes another awful accident to bring it all back (still not scarred).

And he's a millionaire and offers her a job and when she shows up he offers her money for a marriage.

I don't think we ever got a sense of either person's personality or why they would want to be with each other now.

The book felt like a combination of a bunch of the cheesiest soap opera and romance tropes.

Too much happening, much of it not logical. Becky sees her ex, Charlie, and he broke her heart when they were kids and lived next door to each other.

Yet, Charlie had an accident that left him with amnesia and she never heard about it. So, she doesn’t believe him about not remembering, but he remember some things, like where her new apartment is because he had helped her move in.

They still have their attraction, so they break into a store on the beach and steal some clothes, just like her prom dress long ago. And that’s a good memory? Even though Charlie is a billionaire now, he doesn’t pay for what they take. He also doesn’t listen to Becky at a bar when she sees a dangerous group of bikers. It’s OK, she always feels safe with him?

This, of course, leads to them driving off on his bike too fast, having an accident, and him getting all his memories back. Oh, so she now believes him about the past, and he wasn’t unfaithful but never got the chance to explain. Five years of heartache over a misunderstanding.

Full of redundant vocabulary, predictable plots, and abrupt writing, not worth the hour to read.

Short, stand-alone told in dual POV with HEA. Becky & Charles were childhood sweethearts before a misunderstanding tore them apart. A chance meeting five years later has Becky reliving the hurt he caused, but Charles has no memory of that because he was in an accident five years ago that caused him to loose his memory. Charles is drawn to Becky, but she doesn't believe that he lost his memory and she can't forgive him. Cute second chance romance!

A horrific motorcycle accident tore them apart. Will memory loss and a crushed heart kept them apart? After five years, can time heal old wounds or will it take another horrific motorcycle accident to bring them back together?

This was a decent book written in dual points of view which I like. The storyline was just a little off for me. It didn't quite flow easily and I felt that Becky seemed to carry on a bit much over his "supposed" amnesia. This does have a HEA and I will definitely read more by this author just to see if maybe her writing style has changed.

It is a good premise and started off ok, but some of the language is ridiculous. Also in the beginning Charlie was 5 years older than her , but somehow morphed into being the same age. The "love" scenes were the worst offenders. They were too over the top in the wordings and unbelievable. I had been looking forward to reading this book, but it let me down, big time.

I read this in one setting. Okay book, but needs a lot of polish. Some of the scenes almost feel “choppy.” Like they were pieced together. Nice read, but definitely needs some cleaning up.

A very weirdly written story in my opinion. There are no real details, just talking. You don't really know anything about any of the characters, so you either make it up or just skip the whole thing. Needed a lot of work, but it was a quick, easy read if you have about an hour or so.

Becky Castillo works in a crummy bar and knows she’ll probably be out of a job soon. As she’s fending off one of her usual perverted customers, a man she never expected to see again comes to her defense.
Charles Green doesn’t remember the sexy bartender, but feels an undeniable attraction to her. For the past five years, he’s lived with total amnesia, but his lack of a past and an identity didn’t stop him from creating a successful multi-million dollar company. Becky recognizes him, however, and hates him. He soon realizes she’s someone from his forgotten past, and he becomes obsessed with her.
Becky and Charlie are interesting characters. She’s so hurt and angry over the past that she can’t let it go, but she’s also unwillingly drawn to her ex-boyfriend. Even though Charlie is desperate to remember his past, he never really pushed the issue. I don’t understand why Charlie never asked Becky about his parents and family, about his childhood, and about the person he was before he lost his memory. I’m also confused as to why he never filed a background check on Becky since she wasn’t forthcoming with information. All he seemed to care about was figuring out why Becky hated him and also wanting to make amends for that.
I liked this story, but it could use a light edit. There are unanswered questions and loose ends, but it does have a satisfying HEA. It’s told in first POV, both Charles and Becky, and I followed along for the most part.
