This is the best fan fiction I've ever read. I am speechless by the gift of writing stories that has been bestowed upon the writer. As a great fan of the saga, this story has left me without sleep, with eyes filled with tears and heart filled with joy.
Ooh adding this to books read? Hmm yes we're doing it. Unfortunately, this (and the follow up, To Kingdom Come) essentially ruined a lovely streak of in-universe film-divergent stories I was reading, and for that I cannot forgive it. One star off of six stars.
The absolutely mastery of the source material required to go into this sort of detail...it's just mind blowing.
I’m calling it now 2024 is going to be my year of fan-fiction. I fully blame my sudden obsession with Star Wars on the book The Love Hypothesis. I didn’t even like Star wars & and within one year I have rewatch the Reylo Star Wars movies twice, binged the entire franchise, and now I’m reading fan fic 😅 what is happening? This was cute a lil what if Rey & Ben trained as padawan together scenario. Book ended when they were still fairly young so I’ll continue reading the second one bc I wanna see Ben get a redemption from the dark side.
I can't believe I got to read this legally for free... It's simply one of the best works of fiction I've ever read and it's a reylo fanfiction. The characterization is phenomenal, the plot is simply so interesting and I love Ben's descent into Kylo Ren. It was done so wonderfully. Simply simply amazing!
Hands down, best fan-fiction I've ever read. The story-telling and character development are just exquisite, and the research into the world-building is painstaking. I genuinely cried at the end of this series--If you like Star Wars fanfic, I can't recommend LYG/TKC highly enough.
An EXCELLENT "what if" scenario that feels right at home with the original Expanded Universe! This, along with its sequel, really blends the old and new "sequel eras" in a fun and exciting way. I highly recommend this, it's basically better than canon!
This was unbottled genius from start to finish. Felt like reliving falling in love for the first time. The fever of youth, the headiness of want. I wish I could erase my memory and recapture what reading this for the first time felt like. Stunning.
Read this in about 2 sittings due to one very long train journey 😁. Saw it recommended many times but because I am more invested in the enemies-to-lovers-trope when it's about Reylo it took me a while to pick it up. (Also: I was such a fan of Landscape with a Blur of Conquerors by the same author, I didn't think anything could compete, which is maybe unfair).
And what can I say: "Baby Reylo" was really worth it! The cuteness and sadness overload alone, but I really thought the relationship development from childhood friends to adult lovers was very well executed. (The chapter which contains the quote about "Like Young Gods"! 😭) I was so scared of the end (although I knew Ben must turn to the dark side to make the rest of the plot possible), because this relationship they are having is so precious and Ben is so tormented already as it is.
I also liked the training scenes and how Rey develops from scavenger child to Jedi apprentice to Jedi Knight. She gets a found family, she grows up from a scared child to become an independent being. (Which one cannot say is true for Ben, sadly.)
I had a (little) problem with how Ben's turning to the dark side is motivated. Because there is one final tipping point (on top of everything else that happens to make him question the Jedi Code more and more). And this is an action that kind of makes him a martyr which I found unneccessary. To motivate the villain's actions in one tragic event that tips the scale takes away complexity from their character. But we'll see how it is executed in the sequel, "To Kingdom Come". I cannot imagine right now how Rey will ever be able to hate Ben/Kylo Ren, though 😂. Hope the author will make this plausible.
Hands down! the Sword of the Jedi series : Like Young Gods (and its sequel To Kingdom Come) are the best Reylo canon divergence story I have read and believe me, I have devoured hundreds of them in the span of three years. This is still the best so far. I have reread the series twice and they never lose their charms. The characters and their story arc are very well developed and told in multiple angles that make them feel real, alive and colorful. What makes the story really beautiful is how seamless the transition was; the way we see the world from child Rey's perspective, full of wonder and curiosity, to how she came to terms with and embraced her destiny 20+ years down the road, with her and Ben Solo's relationship being the anchor of the story. On top of that, Ben Solo's character arc are so beautifully written that his story come full circle in a way that even the canon (TFA, TLJ, TROS) can't live up to. I'm not exaggerating here and you will know what I mean when you read it yourself. And be prepared to bring a tissue and be content that your heart will be filled with joy!

a top tier reylo au !!! i’ve read this like 5 times since high school like i became cool and understood what a real romance and slowburn was because of the sword of the jedi series and especially this book
BEGGING FOR NETFLIX TO PICK THIS FIC UP AND MAKE IT INTO A LIVE ACTION SERIES BC IT WOULD CHANGE LIVES
It took me a while to finish it just because I KNEW it was going to break my little heart.
I just can’t deal with the yearning of these two. And how he insisted so much on lying to her about his feelings just to fall to the darkness 10 seconds later because of *her* and by the thought of losing her.
I loved it.

This was beautiful and heartbreaking. I’m astounded by the research and care put into this fic. The characters felt so authentic to canon but fleshed out in new and unexpected ways. I can’t wait to read part 2.
