Hi. I'm Joan Eliabeth Lloyd. Let me tell you a bit about myself.
Pesonal stuff: I was born in 1941 - yes, as of this writing I'm 77. I have a wonderful partner of thirty years named Ed (no, we're not married - for tax reasons) two wonderful daughters, a talented son-in-law and three grandchildren, Sarah and Adam, both out of college and gain-fully employed and Luke, aged 15.
Professional stuff: I wrote my first book, Nice Couples Do, in 1990, because I wanted to share my ideas about sexual communication and sexual freedom. I've written many books (novels and non-fiction) since but stopped writing several years ago.
As you may have gathered, I'm a devoted couch potato. I'm an omnivorous reader, both in my eyes and in my ears.
My present interest is in Battered women. I donate earrings, about 900 pair a month, to shelters all over the country, with the help of attendees at my many workshops. Phew!!!!
Didn't take this with me on holiday as I'd almost finished it, so I took longer to read it than I normally would. What I found most interesting about this is how all the characters are totally down to earth. The males are not heroes - some are a bit pudgy, balding, whatever, and the females aren't all perfect either. The whole thing is very concrete and practical, but this doesn't necessarily detract from the fantasy aspect. In ways it makes the situations described far less fantastical than in most books, and more possible.
Pam is found in difficult circumstances with the death of her husband Dom in a car accident.
A financial analysis finds Dom spent a small fortune on a high end brothel. Pam is devastated by the news and begins to delve into who the woman and the company is.
The book details Pam's investigation and her journey from retiring suburban wife to a much more sexually aware woman.
A rather excellent addition to Lloyd's list of books.
The story was rather good and allowed a good understanding of Pam's entry into high-flyer prostitution and procurement. However I missed any sense of closeness with any characters - they all felt unreal, very cold and totally unfeeling. This left me with a strange feeling in the end. I'm not sure I'll read another from this author, though it was nicely written and well structured.
Lloyd's books go beyond bodice ripping and pretty much head straight for the porn. Her sex-centric and sex positive take on life is actually pretty riveting. She's a true guilty pleasure.
