Most young women yearn to be chosen, to be called out from the crowd and loved for who they are. In The Divine Dance , Shannon Kubiak Primicerio acknowledges this desire and likens teen girls to dancers, constantly performing to please the "audiences" in their lives. But in family, peers, teachers, and others, young women forget that they were created to perform for God alone. Promicerio provides readers with guidance and encouragement to stop dancing for the world and to start dancing for an audience of One.
I have no words for how amazing this book is. After following after Jesus for fourteen years, He had yet to come alive to me until I read this book. This is the story that moved Jesus from heaven to earth in my eyes and swept me off my feet into the most glorious dance imaginable. Seven years later, I'm still dancing for my Audience of One. I would recommend The Divine Dance to any young woman who is seeking to make God the center of her life. In fact, I've done more than recommend it. I've passed on copy after copy after copy after copy...
This was a re-read, and I loved it even more the second time around. It is most enjoyable because it is written by a 20 year old young woman who is struggling with every subject she is writing about. This means that The Divine Dance is identifiable and applicable. Shannon is a great writer and her analogy of dancing with God is really amazing. Every woman 13 or older should read this.
This book was VERY helpful, she really captured the 'Divine Dance' and how we are supposed to be dancing for Him. I expecially liked chapter 7: The Tango, which was on relationships.
Even though this book is geared towards teen girls, I really enjoyed it. As a lover of the stage, I thought Primicerio’s analogy was well done and it encouraged me in my dance with God.
I suppose when it comes to reading books on Christian living the one way to tell if it was a good book is if you were convicted. When I read this book I was convicted in a lot of the areas of my life, so in my opinion this was a worthwhile book to read.
The Divine Dance is a neat concept. We are either dancing for God or for the world. I found myself challenged in areas where I'm really dancing more for the world than God. This book really challenged me to get my dreams straight, and to do what I love, but glorify God through my talents. It is so easy to go through the motions of dancing FOR God, Yet not dancing WITH God. This book really motivated me, and opened my eyes to the fact that I need to make my daily meetings with God a special time, not just routine.
The only part I didn't really agree with was the chapter on dating. I have personally decided to court, so some of the concepts of dating didn't apply to me. But the book did point out some great truths, and things you can still apply to courtship.
Anyway, I recommend this book to every Christian young woman. Especially those who may have lost there way, and have danced for the world but only found emptiness. This book is full of advice, and I hope it will leave you convicted, as it has me. Dance for God, and dare to be different.
This beautiful book is for girls everywhere. It's not just for dancers, even though I feel like it resonates even more clearly with those of us who do dance.
Written clearly and openly, The Divine Dance walks through the different aspects of maturing in this world in an inspiring and uplifting way. The Divine Dance is our walk with the Lord, our performance for Him alone.
As I read this, it encouraged and challenged me. Especially as a dancer, I see this book in a new light. With the "Divine Dance" analogy in my mind, I can try to dance for the Lord in all parts of my life.
This book is written from a protestant perspective and as a Catholic I disagree with her opinion of being saved. This is pretty much the only issue I had with the book.
The main question in The Divine Dance is one I need to ask myself often: "If the world is your stage, who are you performing for?" Shannon makes it clear that God is THE choreographer, THE audience, the only One worth living for.
I could go on and on, but I want YOU to read it instead of hearing ME talk about it!
Want to be inspired to dance for the King in every part of your life? Read this book and live by its message!
It was obvious that this book was written for a younger audience (girls probably around 15-20 years old) and so at times it seemed a bit simplistic and read more like a how to (or how not to) book. Despite this, I did feel I was able to connect with the author and her message as she was writing from a similar stage in life to my current one and had wrestled and talked about many areas i had as well in my own walk with the Lord. In speaking to teens, she encourages them not to dance for the people of this world and neglect our Father as He is the one we should truly be dancing for. While I find I struggle less with the need to dance for others in the sense that I did as a teen, it is easy to get swept up in dancing to another tune...perhaps looking at this issue in a different way and it was a refreshing look at the things I need to redirect my focus to in life. Chief among them, making sure that my willingness to please others does not overshadow my dance with my Heavenly Father. Overall a good read, particularly if peer pressure and/or people pleasing is a problem for you. (I think many of us struggle with it at some point).

She compares life to a dance. Who are you dancing for? Her wording is thought provoking esp. concerning your background dancers, and whether or not you are dancing alone.
This book was written for teenage girls. I gleaned insight from it also. And I will read it to my girls. Chapter 7 about dating is especially valuable with advice concerning guidelines to properly finding a mate who is compatable.
My best friend and I lead a dicipleship group of freshmen girls through this book. The concept of 'dancing' with, and for the lover of your soul is beautiful. It was a reminder to return to your first love. I did not agree with everything she had to say about dating realtionships but one chapter dosn't ruin the whole book.
One the most inspiring books for christian women or girls. You don't have to be a dancer to appreciate the timeless lessons and practical advice she gives. It is a book to read multiple times and slowly. It is probably one of my favorite books of all time besides the bible.
While this book is for young ladies, I was able to glean some great principles, and had many a tear shed through the words she spoke. Grateful for this reminder of truth and of Gods great love for me!!
Although the author originally wrote this book to encourage girls in high school and college in their Christian life, I found many insights that applied to an almost-forty-year-old mom. This book, using the analogy of life as a dance, is straightforward and simple to read, but offers the reader the challenge of figuring out who she is living her life to please--the world, or God.
