About the author

Ursula K. Le Guin published twenty-two novels, eleven volumes of short stories, four collections of essays, twelve books for children, six volumes of poetry and four of translation, and has received many awards: Hugo, Nebula, National Book Award, PEN-Malamud, etc. Her recent publications include the novel Lavinia, an essay collection, Cheek by Jowl, and The Wild Girls. She lived in Portland, Oregon.

She was known for her treatment of gender (The Left Hand of Darkness, The Matter of Seggri), political systems (The Telling, The Dispossessed) and difference/otherness in any other form. Her interest in non-Western philosophies was reflected in works such as "Solitude" and The Telling but even more interesting are her imagined societies, often mixing traits extracted from her profound knowledge of anthropology acquired from growing up with her father, the famous anthropologist, Alfred Kroeber. The Hainish Cycle reflects the anthropologist's experience of immersing themselves in new strange cultures since most of their main characters and narrators (Le Guin favoured the first-person narration) are envoys from a humanitarian organization, the Ekumen, sent to investigate or ally themselves with the people of a different world and learn their ways.

Tutaj niestety rozczarowanie, książka poprawna aż do bólu, było wszystko czego mogłabym oczekiwać od takiej opowieści, ale nic tu nie zagrało, a szkoda.
Nie podobało mi się powtarzanie pewnych kwestii w każdej części po kolei, bo wyglądało to tak, że zaczynałam czytać kolejny rozdział i było w nim streszczenie poprzedniego, co przy stu stronach bardzo rzuca się w oczy.
Stworzenie dobrej książki dla dzieci nie jest takie proste wbrew pozorom, bo trzeba zawrzeć maksimum treści i emocji w jak najmniejszej liczbie stron.

I read this series aloud to my kids, ages 4 and 7, and it was the definite winner of 2016!! It really captured their imaginations, and they've been pretending to be kitties with wings ever since! This is what my brother terms "low-fantasy" - except for one magical element (the cats have wings), it is strictly realism. There is never any explanation for that magical element, either, it just is. My kids are at different ages and stages, but this series had them both absolutely tranfixed. I should have known, based on the author, right? Enchanting! Read it!

absolutely no notes. i read these as a child and i adored them; reading them now just brought back lovely feelings of nostalgia. the illustrations are charming and so is the writing, and of course there are winged cats!! they’re just little guys!

Teda řeknu vám, přečíst celou knížku nahlas je docela kumšt, hlavně když čtete nahlas podobně rádi jako já a je to delší než leporelo. Ale čte se to pěkně a Sumec (toho času dva a půl) to docenil taky. A nejen obrázky. Jen teda by mě teď nemusel pořád olizovat... a tuhle se cestou do školky rozbrečet, že tu knížku nemám v batohu a nemůžem ji číst.

Así como la increíble Úrsula K. Le Guin plasmó dentro de este hermoso libro infantil, cómo es posible adentrarnos en un mundo extraordinario con la capacidad de volar y descubrirlo. Con las hermosas ilustraciones de S.D. Schindler que acompañan este relato, vivimos a través de los reflejos gatunos y de sus aventuras para descubrir que hay allá: y donde encontraremos que nos habla de aceptación, de hermandad, de amor y de descubrimiento. Una hermosa lectura para acercarse a los maravillosos mundos de Úrsula K. Le Guin para demostrarnos que nada es imposible si lo imaginamos, lo pensamos y lo llevamos a la práctica. Un libro que reúne las 4 partes de la saga Catwings. Todos los relatos han sido muy entrañables, y los dibujos le daban mucho más encanto porque se nota que al dibujante también le gustan mucho los gatos.
Mi favorito ha sido el cuarto y último relato, porque es el que tiene un mensaje más claro, o al menos el que habla de más cosas como el saber marcharte de un lugar cuando es necesario y el encontrar tu lugar en el mundo siendo un poco diferente.
Es un libro en general sin más pretensiones que ser cuqui, pero creo que eso también está muy bien y yo lo he disfrutado mucho. Muy recomendable si te gustan los gatos.

No sé muy bien como reseñar y puntuar un libro infantil, ya que obviamente no va dirigido a mi tramo de edad, ni tengo peques, ni nadie a quién recomendárselo especialmente. No suelo leer libros infantiles, pero quería leer toda la obra de la autora sin excepción.
Lo que sí puedo decir es que es ameno, se lee muy rápido y es muy tierno, además de que las ilustraciones son muy bonitas. También tiene un mensaje bastante claro de como tratamos al diferente.
Si os gustan los gatetes o tenéis hijos, sobrinos, o cualquier peque en la familia... Creo que es una historia recomendada.

Świeżo po lekturze myślałam, że ocenię ją słabiej, ale jednak została ona w mojej głowie. Czasem wracam myślami do jej prostoty, uroku i przekazu, jaki ze sobą niesie.

Polskie wydanie może wydawać się nieco powtarzalne, ale to po prostu zbiór kilku części. Jakoś mi to nie przeszkadzało i pozwoliło cieszyć się lekturą.

Urocze ilustracje! Słodkie kotki i przepiękna dedykacja.

Miłe, proste i przyjemne.
Minusem jest jednak polskie wydanie, w którym postanowiono część ilustracji wydrukować spikselizowanych. I to widać, bardzo. A może to tylko moje wydanie, idk.

Entre 1988 y 1999 la autora californiana crea y publica, junto con las ilustraciones S. D. Schindler, una serie de historias cortas para niños entre 7 y 12 años que tendría a unos gatos con alas como protagonistas. Telma, Roger, James y Harriet, unos gatos que han nacido con la peculiaridad de tener alas, son instados por su madre la señora Jane Tabby de abandonar su hogar. Su vida en la ciudad puede ser peligrosa si los descubren y deben buscar una vida mejor lejos del barrio ¿Qué aventuras les esperan más allá de los limites de la ciudad? La respuesta es fácil: muchas, variadas y repletas de pequeñas lecciones y valores tanto para los más pequeños como para el resto del mundo.

Los cuentos, escritos desde la sencillez e inocencia dado su publico objetivo, están repletos de capas, metáforas y temas que va tratando con suma simpleza desde la más tierna de las historias. Algunas visibles a simple vista, otras requieren mayor reflexión. Ursula hace hincapié en la importancia de la familia y la amistad como fuerzas de aprendizaje y superación personal. Se enfoca en lo difícil que puede ser encajar en un mundo en el que eres el diferente y por supuesto, refleja ciertas conductas de abuso. Y ojo en cierta historia a la amenaza capitalista y el tema de los desahucios tocados de primera mano.
