Ruth Glick (born 1942) is a best-selling author of healthy cookbooks and has also written dozens of romantic suspense romance novels under the pen name Rebecca York.

Ruth earned a B.A. in American Thought and Civilization from George Washington University and an M.A. in American Studies from the University of Maryland. Although she always wanted to become a writer, Glick was convinced that her lack of spelling skills meant that her goal was unattainable. As a stay-at-home mother, she took a community college course to help her choose a career. The course made it very clear that writing was her primary interest. Glick began writing articles for newspapers and magazines, but after several years decided to try writing fiction. Her first book, a kids' science fiction book, was finally purchased by Scholastic Inc..

Since then, Glick has become a highly successful author of over 50 romantic suspense and paranormal novels. Many of her novels are published under the Harlequin Intrigue line, and in June 2003, she became one of the first authors published under Berkley's new Sensation imprint. Before 1997, she often collaborated with Eileen Buckholtz and Kathryn Jenson.

Glick also is a highly regarded author of cookbooks focusing on healthy eating. She sometimes hires trained chefs to test the recipes that she creates, and makes sure that every recipe is tested at least three times before it appears in one of her cookbooks.

Glick is the head of the Columbia Writers Workshop. She and her husband, Norman Glick, live in Columbia, Maryland, where Ruth collects rocks, and enjoys cooking, walking, reading, gardening, travel, and Mozart operas. They have two grown children, Elissa and Ethan, and two grandsons (Jesse and Leo).

Edge of the Moon by Rebecca York is the second book in the Moon paranormal romantic suspense series. Kathryn Reynolds reports her tenant and friend as missing. Little does she know that her vanishing could be part of a larger pattern. Detective Jack Thornton assumed this was just a routine missing person’s report. When Kathyrn and Jack meet, they both react strongly and don’t trust their immediate attraction. However, when they start to share dreams filled with danger, they soon realize there’s danger from an unknown source.

Kathyrn and Jack become more dynamic as the story progresses, although Jack seems more fully developed than Kathryn. The premise is interesting and the plot has layers to it that kept my interest despite the pacing dragging in a couple of places. It is better to go into this one expecting a fast romance. But it is more than that. It is also a fantasy and a police procedural.

Overall, this is a novel full of danger, suspense, and action, as well as some steamy scenes.

I purchased a copy of this novel. All opinions expressed in this review are my own. The publication date was August 5, 2003.

Dangerous magic, Undeniable lustful attraction, Demon worshiping psycho and dreams that suck you in and become real.

Edge of the Moon is an interesting novel in the Moon series. It does not surround the werewolf story, although Ross does take a minor character role in this book.

Jack Thornton, a detective and Ross Marshall’s friend is caught up in an obsessive attraction that at times is overwhelming and at other times unreal. Meeting the woman who plagues his dreams, he fights her every step of the way. After the death of his wife three years prior, he struggles with raising his two children, his dedication to his job and now a woman that rips his heart out in the most delicious of ways.

Kathryn Reynolds reports her friend and tenant missing. Jack Thornton is assigned the case in attempt to find a connection with other unsolved missing persons cases. The moment she opened the door, a strange phenomenon takes place. It is as if time stands still and they are caught up in something unknown and peculiar. Of course, neither admit to the sensations they experienced. What fun would that be?

Along with the physical awareness came a jolt of pure sexual energy, like nothing he had ever experienced in his life. Lust at first sight. It was almost palpable-arching between them like electricity between to contact points. Dangerous and at the same time so compelling that he would have leaped through a wall of fire to reach this woman if she had been on the other side.

Forced to share erotic dreams, they slowly creep into each other’s heart. Demon wielding powers, wicked and suffocating entities trying to help Kathryn save Jack, this book is oddly amazing and has a fun twist to your usual paranormal romance plot.

I recommend this book to curious mature adults. Moderate sexual content with an interesting range of violence. I do not recommend this book to children or immature and impressionable adults.

~Happy reading!

This book was even more archaic than the first, and I had to speed through several of the scenes just to finish it. I don't know why I subjected myself to this book, other than I wanted to know what happened to a side character who appeared in the first novel. It wasn't worth it.

I really liked this story. I feel as though the books in this series can be read as a stand alone. You really don't have to read the one before to enjoy the next one. I tend to go back and forth on how I feel about York. But this one was a big hit with me. A sexy cop, A strong and smart red headed heroin. With magic involved to bring together the not so suspenseful but never the less intriguing mystery. The cover mentioned a werewolf but you don't get to see much of him in this one... to bad. But all in all It was a good story. Finished it in one night.

Enjoyable. I liked book 2 better, but I really like the guy in this book. I just felt like book 1 got more into the relationship and you didn't have to figure out who or how the "force" was with them.
(That will only make sense if you've actually read them so I apologize.)
I do look foward to book 3.

A really fast read. They remind me a bit of I think of Mercedes Lackey's series of elves helping this world, but a bit more erotic.

I didn't enjoy this installment in the series quite as much as I enjoyed the first, but it did pick up as it kept on going after a somewhat slow start. I can't remember if the first book in the series hinged on insta-love, but this one did, and I think that was part of the problem. If a book's romance is built in that fashion, then the plot/action/story needs to be strong enough--from the start--to offer real tension and stakes and excitement, simply because the 'romance' give-and-take tension is swallowed up by that insta-love. Here, the action/tension in the first part of the book just felt a little forced/awkward, like the author was having to work to build up excitement, so while the book came together in the end, I think going the route of a more traditional romantic attraction would have made for a much better book and taken some of the pressure off of fast plot movements that just didn't always work early on.

Still, this wasn't a bad escape, and even if it didn't live up to the first book in the series, I enjoyed it well enough for the most part and will (eventually) get around to the third.

It's been a while since I picked up this series, and I honestly forgot just how good it is. There is just something about it that draws you in from the very beginning. The suspense / crime angle creates a story line that is impossible to put down and has you racing to see just who done it...

Then there's the great paranormal spin. I mean, it's not enough that you want to have a happy ending and find out who the dang criminal is, you also have a whole heap of paranormal insanity to go along with it. In the case of Katherine and Jack, it's a demon messing with them, shifting time about and just generally being a pain.

I like that Jack is a father and widower in this story. It gives an extra layer of maturity to his character and risk to the formation of a relationship. That, and there's also much more at stake than just Katherine and Jack's lives. Partnered with a fantastic housekeeper... and its honestly a winning family combination.

Ross and Megan also make a great reappearance in this story that reassures you that they also got their happily ever after. But, they don't get the chance to steal the show either. All in all, I loved how York continued to expand on this world and just generally draw you in... now to find the next book to add to my reading pile...

Ugh. And I thought the first book was dated and cliched.
This is the type of book people live tweet as they read. I totally should have done that. My feed would have been full of comments like:

Rolodex? Did people actually have those?

AltaVista to search the internet. Way to date yourself.

Pearl-clutching horror at finding out her friend had porn in her underwear drawer? Oh my. Why did she have it hidden? She was an adult woman who lived on her own.

Sex. Why is it always described as “making love”? It’s not making love when it’s a lust driven event between two almost strangers.

Oh god. He unplugged the phone to plug his laptop in and she was surprised. You have a modem? Lol.

And more like that. It’s too gritty to be paranormal romance. Too erotic to be a thriller. And too cliched and dated to be entertaining in a non-cringe way.

It's been a long time since I read the first book, so I was a little sketchy on the characters, but I was more prepared for the style of the book. It was very dark; like I remember the first one being. An evil magician is trying to summon a demon to have ultimate power. Jack and Kathryn end up having really intense dreams that are also real and magician tracks them through the dreams, but the demon saves them in the dreams. Ritualistic murders, kidnapping, and magic. I liked that the silly plastic magic wand ended up being the item that saved the day. Not planning on reading any more of this series.

York just had this way about writing Suspense that you can be genuinely surprised about the mystery of who did it. The romance is a bonus. The sense of magic is believable and somehow fits into everyday life. I'm still partial to the first book of this series.

Setting: Montgomery County, Maryland – one of the richest counties in the nation - her white Victorian – she lives on top floor (with a space dedicated to her graphic design business), tenant on first floor; his gray colonial; five prime acres in eastern Montgomery County with a basement altar; taken in a shared dream into a picture – “Under the roof of Blue Ionian weather”; Sugarloaf Mountain – private park, burial ground for Simon;

Theme: stopping evil; finding love;

Image: “all day he’d felt Something hovering over him, something that grated on his nerves.”

Characters:
Ayindral: between the realm of earth and ageless emptiness – “some might call him a demon, a chimera, an imp, a spirit, or a jinni. Others might see him as a dark god and prostrate themselves before him.” He knows Simon is trying to pull him into our universe, and he is trying to fight him… to guide Jack and Kathryn to join forces and stop him – drawing them into common dreams, stopping time to control things; he will destroy himself, and a good hunk of the earth rather than being taken;

Detective Jack Thornton: lost his wife 3 years earlier in a car accident; doing his best to raise his 2 children; surprisingly told by the captain to drop his case and work on 4 missing persons case, to see if there is any connecting threads – 2 young women, 1 boy, 1 elderly man; it brings him to Kathryn, who reported her tenant missing;

Craig / Lily: 9 years old/7 years old; charming, loving children:

Emily Anderson: grandmotherly housekeeper; stepping in as adopted grandmother;

Gary Swinton: Heather’s skuzzy boyfriend; in the end we figure out he sold his girlfriend to Simon – but in the end, Simon took him for another sacrifice,

Simon Gwynn: his alias today; practitioner of ancient magic arts; uses black magic, which requires the sacrifice of a life – has unknown number of buried bodies; now wants control of a demon;

Ross Marshall / Dr. Megan Sheridan: werewolf / geneticist working on the were gene;

Summary:
A moment freezes when Kathryn opens the door to Jack – a moment of intense attraction… and from there, Jack spends the next few encounters distant, and antagonistic – questioning her as if she is guilty… but they share a few dreams together… and her own dream shows her where to find buried bodies… and Jack confides in Ross and Megan – who gives him magic books to research… and they first make love in one of these dreams…

Simon sacrifices Gary in a ceremony to send Jack over a cliff… but Jack survives, and Kathryn ‘sees’ the accident and sends Ross to his aid… then Simon tries to kidnap her, but Kathryn realizes the danger, and escapes… Jack sends his kids and Emily to Ross… and takes off with Kathryn…

But the demon requires them to return… they work together to figure who he is… he kidnaps Lily, Jack sets off after her, while Simon takes Kathryn… her wand (clear wand with floaty things) warms up when he is close (first to Lily, then to Kathryn)… and as Simon is getting ready to sacrifice her… but she is telling him what they learned of his demon – that they will all die before he’d allow himself to be subservient… and Jack shows up in a nick of time…

3 months later, a happy family scene… talk of getting married;

Memorable Scenes:

Craig to housekeeper: “Does a girl have to be married to have a baby?” “Dad tries to be real cool, but he’d probably get uptight if I asked him.” “Billy Patterson was talking about his sister. He says she’s going to have a baby and are going to get married.” “Oh, he got me and Lily this book that explains all about… you know… about how the mom and dad… you know. But I can’t imagine anyone doing something that yucky unless they were married and… you know… had to have a baby.”

This was...unexpected. I picked this up on a whim, not realizing that this plot involved supernatural elements. I also didn't know it was part of a series.

While the book is dated, you can't hold that against it. The story was still entertaining, and it certainly kept me reading since I wanted to know what happened next.

I don't read many supernatural books, in fact, I usually avoid them. So most of what happens in this book was new to me and it took some getting used to. I was expecting a real-life plot with human bad guys. Instead, we have demons (although not the biblical kind), time dilation, shared dreams, a werewolf, and a magician who performs ritualistic killings. 🧙‍♂️

The instant attraction aspect didn't bother me. It's a trope I actually really like lol. And this book had a unique twist on it since their attraction was being manipulated by outside forces.

Overall it was a quick and entertaining read, although I don't know that I'll be reading any of the others in the series.

This is Jack Thornton’s story. Remember he was the police detective in the previous book. Here he meets Katheryn Reynolds a graphics designer who works at home. Katheryn’s downstairs’ tenant has gone missing, a strange van has been in the neighborhood and there’s been a few break-ins around her home.

The whole painting world felt very strange to me. It was confusing and unsettling. I did research the painting and while not my cup of tea they fit the story well.

I really liked how Ross & Megan worked into the story. They play a real part, not just a token mention like some stories.

I’m glad things worked out so well with Mrs. Anderson. She’s a very conscience lady and loves those kids. But the whole thing with Captain Granger was so odd and really wasn't needed.

Fave Scenes: 1) the playhouse shed, the park ‘dream’, Jack’s accident and the hot/cold magic wand.

Rebecca York - Berkley Publishig Group - Edge of the Moon
This book was much better than the first in the series. We were given more details about the characters and had a fuller scope of their feelings in this book. The book centers around Kathryn Reynolds who tenent is missing. She calls in to report it and comes in contact for the first time with Jack Thornton a cop. They go on a wild journey through sharing dreams and defending themselves against a magician who is hell bent on owning a demon. He decides to use Jack and Kathryn in his plan to take ownership of the demon. By the way, he also happens to be a serial killer. It is an exciting ride through the sick mind of a killer and the paranormal world that the demon inhabits.

I liked this book pretty well. It was a pnr but the romance wasn't as large a part as in some other books. The magic using was very well done. I think it is harder to do well than the werewolf/vampire thing because you have to have a firmer grasp on how you (the author) intend to have your magic work. Poorly done the story can just become a bunch of gimmes. There was only a little bit of that near the end but it wasn't too bad. I liked both the hero and the heroine both seemed well written and neither was too alpha or too wimpy. It was good to see the werewolf from the first book make an appearance here. I'll keep on with the series.

This book is pretty good. I think the first book is better, but I loved Jack from the previous book and was excited to read his story. Jack and Kathryn are great together. Although it took almost 90% of the book for Jack to get his head in the game and realize that there was more feeling than he thought he had for Kathryn. They made a great team against the crazy magician and the demon. I really liked the paranormal element in this book. Loved that Ross was back too. Overall this was really good and I look forward to the next book, although I have no idea who is the next character because I don't think he was mentioned.

I adored Killing Moon--kept and re-read--but in this book, the blend of paranormal and gritty thriller isn't quite as smooth, and doesn't seem to build on the previous book's mythos at all. The characters tend toward histrionics (especially at the end). But still, I read right through it and am going on to the next in the series, hoping to find it meets the expectations set by the first book. All in all, this is really closer to a three-star, but...maybe I'm influenced by how much I enjoyed the first.

PS I have no idea why the book has this title!

So when I first read this book I never realized it was a series. Which I just love so much. This was a really good book. I loved the characters and how the story developed. Anything with magic I usually fall for and the same happened with this book. There was one thing in the book that made me laugh the demon worshiping psycho. The element of dreams sucking you in and becoming real was a good twist with this book. Who wouldn't love to have a dream become real depending on certain ones. I love when I can finish a book in one night.

I keep surprising myself by liking these books. And while there was probably a two year gap between reading the first book of the series and the second, I still was able to catch on. This book reads more as romantic suspense with a hint of paranormal. I believe the rest of the series becomes much more paranormal. However halfway through the pace really picked up and I stayed up late to see how it would end. I met this author years ago at RT, a great, quick read.

Undeniable lustful attraction, magic, adventure, action, demon worshipping psycho, and realistic dreams. Is definitely this book all wrapped into one. I will admit for this series I read it completely out of order. I had no clue when I picked the book I first read of this series that there were other's I should read first. Coming in from the fourth or fifth book and then reading randomly is easy to understand what is all going on. This one is a decent fun romance with moderate sexual content.

This being the third book I’ve read in this series, I must say that this story disappointed me. I simply didn’t finished. The concept seemed forced. There were a lot of sexual scenes since the beginning (but they were where just dreams), poor character development, the story gets confusing and the paranormal part is completely unnecessary.
So… this one was not for me at all. I liked the other two books, but this one I just lost interest.

This story included Jack Thornton, detective from first book, and Kathryn as a new character. I was held captive with this book as well, as Kathryn and Jack race againist time to save innocent victim at that had of a mad man trying to evoke a demon. The demon is speaking to Jack though dreams to try and save himself. I love the books by Rebecca York. Can't wait to read the next one.

Edge of the Moon was excellent. I call it a paranormal thriller. Two people, Jack ( police detective from Killing Moon) and Kathryn are unwilling participants in the struggle between a magician and the demon he is trying to enslave. Exciting story, great romance.
Rebecca York is an exceptional author. I dare you to read 20 pages and put it down. I can't.

This was quite a complicated story but was so compelling it kept me reading. I liked that the demon got a voice too and was not the bad guy really. The whole tale was a bit out there but the characters kept my interest and we got to see Ross and Megan again. It will be interesting to see where book 3 takes the series.

This book was better than the first, but again the word distended should not be used in a sex scene. There is just something about the word choices that this author uses that just seem awkward to me and hinders my enjoyment of the stories. The plot itself was good.

Took a little bit of time to get into this book, but once I did, it was a good read. I went out and purchased the next 3 in the series. I am noticing a writing pattern that took place with the last one and this story, I'm hoping it switches up a little bit in the next.
