A.J. Newman is the author of over 22 novels that have been published on Amazon. He was born and raised in a small town in the western part of Kentucky. His Dad taught him how to handle guns very early in life, and he and his best friend Mike spent summers shooting .22 rifles and fishing.

The third book of the series deals primarily with the dregs of society that manage to survive an apocalypse. As they say, even cockroaches will survive. Joe and his small group of survivors join with a large group of preppers and survivalists who call themselves the Mountain Men. Their goals and standards mesh, and soon Joe is off to nearby camps and towns to garner allegiance with the larger group. The city of Ashland is everyone’s main concern. It has been taken over by a warlord mentality who has recruited many men in order to control nearby communities and charge a tariff for protection. It is the encounters with this force and the recruitment of men that consume Joe’s daily activities. Cobie and Chloe also keep Joe on his toes and at times present the lighter side of the struggle to survive. This is a great series and I look forward to more. Kevin Pierce and Sara Morsey do a wonderful job of bringing the characters to life.

We finally discover why there are Islamic terrorists. There are a lot of plot shifts that enhance the story quite a bit. As a geocacher, I like the treasure hunt. With the new "friends" and possible betrayals that occur and are yet to occur, it provides a lot of suspense. The women are equal partners and fighters, even if they have to remind the guys of that on occasion. Earl has become one of my favorite characters at this point. There are a few errors in writing and the style, especially with the dialogue, is somewhat stiff almost to the point of soap opera speech. Still, this kept me interested and wow, Grandma, quite a note at the end!

Number one thing about this series as I said in my review of audible one and that is Grandma you can never get enough of her letters of spit. fire and wisdom. The author never wavers in telling the perfect story with death, growing up pains as a person and community. You feel each and ever lost and in someway morn with the characters in the story.
Finally the trip never stops between the books and the narrator does an above average job telling the story.
So in closing I can not review this series any better than say if you are ready really ready for fun, a laugh, a cry and a very wise old grandma you need to listen or read this series.

Like the previous book in this series, this book is open-ended, but not a cliffhanger. The story follows on from books 1 and 2. It's an acceptably believable story with a community of great characters, especially Joe's "family." The letters from Joe's Grandma are delightful. And Sara Morsey makes a perfect Grandma. Both she and Kevin Pierce deliver outstanding performances.

NOTE: I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Worth Your Time!

Good storyline and likeable characters. The only thing I would change is often conversations seemed too proper. Most people that know each other speak in a relaxed manner, often using slang.

Reign of Darkness

Just finished reading all of the books written so far in this series and can't wait to get the next one. This is one of the best of this type of series that I have ever had the chance to read. If you like post apocalyptic stories then you have to get this series.

Joe Joe Joe

Joe. Some people just learn the hard way. Just because you are a good guy doesn't mean others are.....but it seems to be working for him. Has a woman, a daughter, a place to live, a job to do and words of wisdom from him Grandmother. What more could he ask for?

A little bit of editing and a good proofreader would make what is now a good story into a great book
Typos, missing words, and an incredible number of randomly placed commas really takes away from what is essentially a good read.

Great read

I don’t know how he does it. AJ makes the characters come to life and you get all caught up in what’s going on and find out that you are learning at the same time. Oh how I love Joe’s grandma Agnes. I would love to meet someone like her.

Interesting concept

Seems to be no shortage of bad guys. If there is no restraint on man he becomes the animal he is.
