Marion Kummerow was born and raised in Germany, before she set out to "discover the world" and lived in various countries. In 1999 she returned to Germany and settled down in Munich where she's now living with her family.

After dipping her toes with non-fiction books, she finally tackled the project dear to her heart. UNRELENTING is the story about her grandparents, who belonged to the German resistance and fought against the Nazi regime.

It's a book about resilience, love and the courage to stand up and do the right thing.

I was provided with an ARC of this before it went to its final editing stages and was asked -- as someone who has never read Kummerow's books -- whether this could be a stand-alone novel and what I thought of it. I am really pleasantly surprised. I have met Kummerow and know that she is a native German who is writing in English and the first thing I must say is hats off to anyone who can so beautifully craft a story in a language which is not their native language. Kummerow is obviously passionate about revealing all the faces of WW2 to a broader audience and this through a cast of believable and likable characters. Loads of action but loads of humanity are what the reader will find. I also learned quite a few interesting historical details; the book is very well researched. I found the story was easy to follow, and I remained interested from beginning to end. Definitely a series worth diving into and I am delighted to have discovered her.

When outspoken, feisty and brave Lotte Klausen meets her Polish brother-in-law in his homeland, they’re ostensibly on opposing sides. It’s summer, 1944, the time of the Warsaw uprising. Piotr Zdanek, Peter, has been working in Berlin, yearning to fight for his homeland.

Lotte is working for the German army but spying for the British. She puts her mission and life in jeopardy when she falls in love with a German soldier, Johan.
The Warsaw uprising is an indictment of shame on the Allies who failed to deliver promised support.

Marion Kummerow’s portrayal of the brave untrained, unprepared and under-armed Poles is moving. She has brought her thorough research to life. Her writing is clear and concise. I was there with Lotte in the midst of battle and when she was captured. She needs all her bravery to withstand the Gestapo’s interrogation.

This tense, emotional roller coaster novel is dedicated to the memory of the Polish insurgents who, unaided, fought their Nazi invaders.
Historical fiction fans of books set during World War II will enjoy this novel. Although part of a series, it can be read as a stand-alone. I recommend the other books in the series. You’ll be moved, informed and entertained.

Excellent book must read

I really loved the book and the writeing was excellent and everything kept my interest . I enjoyed the love story between Lotte and her German boyfriend and i wish they, can get together . There is always good and bad in every nation and we must learn that and these books have shown that. Having worked for CHEVRON and my husband too we have lived all over the world but I knew very little of Polland and this book has told me a lot about the people and they can not seem to get a break. I loved the book and have read the series and think the book should get five stars.

This is a story about Anna’s husband Peter (Piotr) and her sister Lotte (a.k.a. Alexandra) and their efforts to help the Allies and Poland in her time of need. There is lots of intrigue and a fair share of humanity balanced against The brutality of the SS and Gestapo. German army troops questioning Hitler and their government. Even in the midst of the terrible war Love is in the air.

Uncommon reunion

Loved the reunion between Peter and his son and the part Lottie had in it. Bravery and courage in the face of death. I hope that somehow Lottie and Johan are reunited and also Peter and Anna and his son. I am looking forward to the next book in the series. Great book as always, you must read it.

I love all things Marion Kummerow, and this does not disappoint! Ms. Kummerow writes the best historical fiction; all based on real events! This series is fascinating, this is Lotte's story. None of us would know what we would do, unless we were in that day and time!! I can't wait for the next book in the series!!

A very good read

Such a very sad time on history. Who would think that the world would abandon Poland not once, but twice?

I loved reading about the activities of these family members and their experiences in WWII. This is the last book I’ve read in series and I’m sorry to leave the characters behind.
