A fireman returns to his Amish home—with an unexpected “Kelly understands the human heart and writes about it with beauty and resonance.”—Beth Wiseman, author of A Picture of Love
An Amish homecoming…
Disgrace drove Stephen Lambert from Ice Mountain, but honor drives him back to his Amish home. After rescuing a pregnant young woman from a burning house, the rugged firefighter knows the remote Amish mountain community is the only place Ella Nichols will be safe. Abandoned by the father of her child, the brave Englischer beauty needs him like no one before. Determined to protect her, Stephen claims the unborn babe as his own—and prepares to return to the town, and the family, that once falsely accused him…
From the moment she is saved from peril by Stephen’s strong arms, Ella feels sheltered, nurtured. How else could she agree to sequester herself on Ice Mountain, among the Plain folk there, but for the promise of Stephen’s loving protection? But as she steps deeper into his world and discovers his haunting secrets, Ella longs to heal the heart of the man who has captured hers forever…
“[Long’s writing] delivers a sense of escape from today’s hustle and bustle into a gentler and simpler world.” —Publishers Weekly
“Long creates storylines that captivate her readers.” — RT Book Reviews
“Long’s writing style is smooth and engaging, her characters true to the period yet timeless in their hopes and flaws and personal battles.” — USA Today
Good, multi-layered story of love, faith, and overcoming the past. Stephen left his home on Ice Mountain after he was accused of murder and shunned. Even though he was proved innocent, he no longer felt at home there. Instead, he moved to an Englisch town and worked as a firefighter. His life took a dramatic change when he rescued a young woman from a burning building. Ella was pregnant, abandoned by the father of her baby, and in danger from a greedy aunt and uncle.
I really liked Stephen and Ella. He is kind, honorable, and protective. He is well-liked by his fellow firefighters and has a strong friendship with his doctor roommate. Though he no longer lived in the Amish community, his faith was still strong and guided his behavior. Ella is sweet, determined, and feisty. She was determined to give her baby the best life possible, even under the most difficult of circumstances.
Stephen and Ella met when he saved her from a burning building. There was a connection between them from the very start, both physical and emotional. Stephen was drawn to Ella in a way that he'd never experienced before. He wanted to take care of her and her baby, at the same time he found it almost impossible to keep his hands off of her. Stephen's kindness to her is something that Ella hasn't felt in a very long time. She's attracted to him but doesn't feel she deserves the compassion of such a good man. I loved the protectiveness Stephen experienced when she went back to her old job, and the actions he took to show it. When they found out that the fire was deliberately set in an attempt to kill Ella, Stephen was determined to save her, even if that meant returning to Ice Mountain.
I liked the development of the relationship between Stephen and Ella. Stephen fell fast and hard for Ella and wanted nothing more than to make her part of his life forever. I loved how he already thought of her baby as his own. Ella felt the same about him but worried that their differing lives would make it impossible. I loved how easily she fit into the community and the hope that it gave her for the future. There were many sweet scenes between them as they got to know each other. I especially loved the way Ella took care of Stephen after the bear attack. There were also some fun scenes of his friends giving him a hard time over his feelings for her. Both were a little wary of expressing their feelings, but when a crisis threatened their lives, they realized that life was too short not to take the risk.
There was an element of mystery/suspense that ran through the book. We found out early on that Ella's life was in danger. There were several twists and turns that kept me guessing as to what would happen. I was intrigued by the first man sent to kill her. His actions were not what I expected, and I found my opinion of him changing rapidly. He redeemed himself quite nicely by the end of the book. The second killer was creepy and evil, made even worse by the connection he already shared with Ella. The final confrontation was intense and had me on the edge of my seat until it was over.
Part of the story dealt with Stephen and his relationship with his mother and aunt. After meeting them, I completely understood the strain he'd been under as a kid and teenager. I thought it said a lot about his need to protect Ella that he even considered going back to that toxic atmosphere. It was interesting to see how the time away, plus his feelings for Ella, helped Stephen move past the resentment toward forgiveness. I also liked seeing the changes that Stephen's mother went through and how she faced up to her mistakes. There was a neat little twist involving her at the end of the book.
I have read and enjoyed all of the books in the Ice Mountain series. A beautifully written inspirational book. I loved the plot, meeting up with the people of Ice Mountain again and the story line is phenomenal. I look forward to more books in this series. Pub Date 27 Nov 2018 I was given a complimentary copy of this book from Kensington Books through NetGalley. Thank you. All opinions expressed are my own.
I am a huge fan of Kelly Long's books and this is no exception. The Ice Mountain Series is sweet and saucy!! Stephen and Ella tell a tale of rejection and questionable decisions and doubt. Can Gott win them back into his loving arms? If you are a Kelly fan this is a must read, If you do not like spice in your story please do not bash the book because the story is a wonderful story and it crosses no line. Kelly thank you for sharing your gift and I was thrilled to find we will be going back to Ice Mountain.
Isn't it funny how life's circumstances can bring us together? Kelly Long has written such a book that does just this. She's been one of my long time favorite authors and does a superb job in bringing a story to life. I like that her characters come with flaws or baggage if you want to say that but flaws is a much nicer word I devoured this book in one sitting. I didn't want to put it down and this is a book that will leave you long after you're done with it. I love a story that can offer characters Hope, Love , Grace and forgiveness all in a tight fitting so to speak. And may I say that the cover of the book is gorgeous! It was what made me want to read it mostly because of the girl's expression on her face. I wanted to find out what had her so afraid and looking over her shoulder. The cover fits nicely with the storyline. I was very impressed. I strongly recommend this book. My thanks to Netgalley for a copy of this book. NO compensations were received. All opinions are my own.
3.5 This story was very layered, so many side plots. They all came together very nicely. I love stories about the Amish. I find them fascinating the way they come together and support each other. This story shows that there isn’t always peace among their ranks.
Ella and Stephen’s story builds very slowly, naturally, which seemed appropriate between the time period and the religious nature of the story. Both characters had ghosts they were running from. There were some twists, drama, sadness and coming to light moments for some characters you would least expect it from. The conclusion was very sweet. A very nice story, recommend.
Thanks to NetGalley, the author and Kensington Books for a copy in exchange for a review.
This is the fifth installment in the “Amish Ice Mountain” series. However, it could be read as a standalone.
Ella and Stephen are both dealing with a lot of baggage from their pasts. (In fact, there were issues addressed in this book that are rarely, if ever, seen in Amish-themed novels.) There are a number of side plots, and it feels like a bit too many at times. Ella and Stephen are likable characters. Ella is determined and feisty, and Stephen is honorable and protective, perhaps due to being a firefighter. Things unfolded at an appropriate pace. There are a few unexpected twists and a bit of mystery, and the conclusion is satisfying.
No special aligning of answered questions like what was my favorite part, just that I know that this series must one day end because of years passing. It will be a day of sorrow for me as I have become a part of these people's lives. I will have to say, "see you later. " I will not be able to mouth the words "good bye."
A very well written book. Well developed characters and a solid theme. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I also enjoyed the fact that it was more than 100 pages long. Thanks for a very enjoyable read. I definately plan to read much more of this authors work. Would highly recommend it.
I have read other Ice Mountain books but just realized I have missed one so need to go back. However it draws me in and it is so woven together that missing one is ok. You are drawn back onto Ice Mountain and visiting with old friends, and meeting some new ones along the way.
Story was a little predictable but interesting nonetheless. I was glad to see the gospel and redemption clearly referred to in the story. You felt like you knew the characters in the story.
Amish firefighter rescues a fire haired girl from a boarding house in 1958. The story line was good but I simply found too many Inconsistencies in the representation of the Amish life style to feel comfortable with this story.
I have to admit to being disappointed in Stephen and Ella’s story because the whole purpose of her hiding on Ice Mountain was because her life is in danger but there’s little real suspense in the plot. The sinister characters are shadowy figures, their motive isn’t explained in detail and the hired thugs they send are bumbling amateurs, thus negating the whole reason for the story. While I have enjoyed the sensual elements of the previous books in the series this couple’s passionate encounters were off putting because of their constant repetition. I wish the author had instead devoted more time to exploring Stephen’s past childhood trauma and his healing journey with his mother instead. And in a side note in most of the Amish romances I have read before Ella’s character would have had to be baptized before marriage but that was not the case in this story.
This was a great story. I loved Ella and her fight to keep her unborn baby safe even when she felt like giving up. Ella gave up a lot and is facing a lot of difficult situations. Stephen is a hard working young man that has some hurts in his past. His character is compassionate and always wanting to fight for the underdog. I enjoyed watching this couple together. They had several things going against them, yet they were able to overcome together. The mystery in the story added to the plot and kept the book moving. The chemistry between Stephen and Ella was strong. This book was a little steamier than usual for most Amish books. I feel like the author captured the characters well and portrayed them in a realistic way. This book is part of a series of books. I was glad that I have read the other books in the series to get a better overall picture of the characters. Overall a great book that I would recommend to those that like romance and trying to find a way in difficult situations.
This is another great book in the Amish Ice Mountain series by Kelly Long.
I loved the characters of Ella and Stephen and how their circumstances brought them together and how the story flows and ends.
Each person is recovering from deep hurts in their lives and we find them enduring and overcoming difficult circumstances, which brings them together. Mystery, forgiveness, and love lend to a great read that I would highly recommend to those who enjoy reading Amish romances.
I received a copy of this book from Kensington Books and NetGalley. I was under no obligation to give a review.
Lor Long always knows how to suck me into her books and wont let me out until I have felt every single emotions. This one was fantastic and captivated me from the very get go!

A beautifully written inspirational romance. I enjoyed the plot, characters and the author's writing. Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for my ARC. This is my unbiased review.
Ella Nichols works as a cleaning lady in a brothel. She is young, beautiful and five months pregnant. Her aunt and uncle are trying to have her killed. The first attempt is setting her boarding house on fire while she is there. Firemen rush to the scene and a young fireman, Stephen Lambert, climbs a ladder in a risky rescue to save Ella. Stephen was born in the Amish community of Ice Mountain. After being shunned because of a murder charge, Stephen has left the Amish and vows to never return. He is drawn to Ella and her situation and helps her to run away to a safe place to save her life.

An Amish Match on Ice Mountain is my first read by Kelly Long. Although, this is a series I read this book as a stand alone. The only thing I missed is wanting to go back and read the entire series! Undesirable circumstances brought Ella and Stephen into each others paths. They each bring their own baggage and heartbreak to the story. Forgiveness, love and compassion for others makes this a wonderful read. I received a copy from NetGalley and the opinions are of my own.
I am one of Kelly Long's biggest fans and I love the Ice Mountain series. I have read all of the series (this is book #5) and feel that it is helpful to read the entire series but I do think that this book could be understood as a stand-alone novel. While an Amish book, Kelly does add some "spice and pizzazz" to the story. The characters are believable and likable. They also show that the Amish are not perfect and have their troubles and past issues, as well as Englischers do.
I highly recommend this book to readers.
