He started out in the game industry in 1989 as a software engineer and holds a Ph.D. from the School of Computing and Mathematics at Teesside University for his work on interactive storytelling.

2003 was a long time ago in game industry years. I started in the game industry in 2006 and it corresponds really well to my experience from then and I probably would have benefitted from reading it, but even with some topics being relatively evergreen, this is more of a history book than anything else.
