I think Ian Fleming would have liked this book. A in it's right wing old fashioned splendour.

I seemed to enjoy this more when I first read it - back in my teens. Hasn't really aged well - for some reason.

Jim Lawrence is an excellent adapter of James Bond novels for the JAMES BOND comic strip, but his original stories are disappointing. The result here is that the first half of this book is disappointing and the second half excellent. What puts this book up to 4 stars instead of 3 is the also excellent short essays explaining Kingsley Amis's involvement with Bond. I hope that Lawrence figures how to write original plots as good as his better novel adaptations or the rest of this series will continue to disappoint.
