Frederick Nietzsche once, "God is dead and we have killed him," yet he left out one very important detail, Pipimi and Popuko have taken God's corpse and made their home inside of him. Pop Team Epic Second Season is another masterpiece by the great Bkub Owaka, in ways mirroring James Joyce in terms of intellectual stimulation. Much like Ulysses, most readers of today will not even begin to understand the layers of culture hidden behind the short 4-panel comics.
To be honest, its some dudes comic strip with just a ton of random references and often times clever humor that you might not immediately recognize. This manga is not for everyone and I probably wouldn't even recommend it to the average person. However, if you have a basic understanding of Japanese culture/video games/food/puns/american culture/the french. You'll probably in some way find this book humorous. 5/5
A hilarious, wacky manga. Round two! I had heard about Pop Team Epic from the anime and wanted to see how the manga was. This second book, just like the first, is comprised of over 150 short comic stories (only 4 panels each) about the dynamic duo of Pop Team Epic. Most of it was funny, relatable and deliciously quirky. Some still had sentences/references that I didn't get (even after living in Japan for 3 years). But overall, cute, funny, and quick. Now that I've finished both books, I definitely want to watch the show!
Pop Team Epic, Second Season continues Bkub Okawa’s signature blend of surreal, absurdist, and meta-humor, following the chaotic adventures of Popuko and Pipimi. This four-panel manga series is infamous for its unpredictable comedic style, heavy use of pop culture references, and deliberate trolling of its audience.
Había muchas coñas que la verdad no las he cogido ni por asomo. Otras...me he partido la caja muy fuerte xD Me da que hay que estar muy al día de las cosas de anime para coger muchas de las coñas.
I thought I had read these manga already, but I just finished chugging through both books & I barely remembered any of them. Must have been a long time ago.
