It was never going to be straightforward…

I think Victoria Paige's imagination is a little scary especially how believable her stories seem. Maybe the government is working on ways to control our minds? Ms Paige’s stories make way too much sense…in a genetically modified humans will become our army…kind of way. In this day and age, what we can do in the name of science, well, I couldn't help but stop and wonder if there was some truth in her theories. Let's just say, I won’t be trusting medical personnel so easily with a syringe anymore. You say vaccinations / antibiotics, I think mind control spindly spidery thing being injected that’s going to attack my brain.

Unexpected Vows is exactly why I love to read Victoria Paige’s work. She manages to take real-life issues, give it a little tweak and come up with an exciting, fast-paced and riveting read. Her characters are unreal but so engaging. Kate can be frustrating one minute and lovable the next. Boy-o-boy Colt was a good guy…I mean really, really good...and hot…and bossy…and sexy..and good. I loved seeing Colt in action doing his good guy thing while also being a tough and possessive badass as well.

Admiral Porter is back, and we get a glimpse of the Guardians again which gets my heart pumping. I can’t decide if I love to hate Porter or hate to love him. He’s extremely intense and honourable while also being manipulative, stubborn and domineering. I think he cares for the people who work for and with him but it’s kind of hard to tell sometimes, especially when he goes off the radar.

Another thing that makes Victoria’s books so good is the main characters are mature and have lived a little. The hero is in his early forties and the heroine, her late 30’s. Colt has known for years that he loves Kate but for the majority of that time, he believed her dead. The dynamics between Colt and Kate are a little weird. It seems like Colt is delusional and in love with Kate’s looks instead of her as a whole. As time goes on, you can tell that it's the whole package. Colt even smiles when Kate gets feisty, stubborn and unwilling to see that she's wrong. He’s a good man who’s only once tried to have a relationship when he thought Kate was dead. He learned, that there’s just no replacing the one you love.

Now, Kate, well to be honest, I thought she was too stubborn for her own good. She has her reasons…boy she really has her reasons, but it’s really hard to watch her miss out on opportunities to find happiness. There were times that I was frustrated with Kate. I get that she doesn’t want to form attachments because she feels likes she’s on a short timeline, but I wanted her to make the most of her days. I needed her to stop walking away when trouble is brewing. She should have trusted those around her who love and want to protect her.

There’s a third wheel, kind of, but I knew that he was never going to be a problem. If anything, if he was even a possibility of being a problem, I would have reached into the book and ripped him out. Ok, I know that’s not possible, but if that was a possibility that’s what I would WANT to do.

Unexpected Vows is a sexy book but it’s not OTT or sex thrown in unnecessarily to fill the book. The connection between Colt and Kate jumped off the pages and was totally believable. No extreme gymnastics but enough to show their fitness was a step above the everyday bloke and chick. I guess it’s to inspire me to go to the gym more and maybe take up yoga and Pilates to be a wee bit more flexible. 😉

There are two surprise packages that I never saw coming...and poor Kate didn't either. Kate played a major role in the upbringing/parenting of her siblings so I knew she would be Ok with her new role as a parent. I could see that Kate was struggling with these two new people who were thrust into her life. She wants to do right by them but is scared. Luckily, Kate doesn’t have to do this alone and there are plenty of friends and family to help. There’s also Colt, and he would LOVE to partner up with Kate and share the responsibilities. He's even willing to vow to be beside her in good times and bad.

Sorry, I’ve probably mushed, gushed and rambled on a bit too much. I really enjoyed Unexpected Vows and felt like we returned to the Victoria Paige I originally became addicted too. It was fast-paced, sexy and thought-provoking. You can’t help but think, maybe Victoria Paige has got it a little bit right. I would not be opposed to a group of dedicated men and women fighting to save lives and bring the baddies to justice. Maybe we could give the Guardians superhero costumes...I'd like to see that.

Victoria, if you’re considering writing another Guardian or Misty Grove instalment… JUST DO IT!!!

Ok, a twin twist! I did not see that coming.

I knew this book would be good in part because I'm friends with the author and I know she is meticulous about edits and character development. I was certainly expecting the government conspiracy, (this is Misty Grove), but she managed to surprise me with a hint of sci-fi.

Wishing continued success to my long time Goodreads friend and author Victoria Paige!

4.5 stars 🤩

I have to say this was a bloody great read! You know how lately a lot of these so-called ‘Alpha’ heroes are just controlling dickheads in disguise that you just wish the author would just kill them off already? No?? Just me then. Well, this wasn’t like that. At all.

I loved Colt. He is exactly how I like my heroes. Protective, possessive without being a dick, loyal with a dash of dangerous, and sexy as hell! And him trying to control his jealousy moments had me smiling hard! I also appreciated that they both had lives and that Colt was the one trying to convince Kate to take a chance on them. Speaking of Kate, she’s stubborn as hell and geez, she had some dumb moments where I just wanted to slap her upside the head, but she was just perfect for Colt. And it wasn’t your typical formulaic bullshit that makes you bored. It’s a bit messy, a bit crazy but it works. I also liked the balance between the suspense and the romance, and also all the family bonding moments.

Definitely worth a read - looking forward to reading more! 😍

While i love romantic suspense, books with any type of sci-fi or futuristic aspect aren’t usually at the top of my list of books to read. I’ve struggled a little bit with that aspect of this series because of that. I’m not saying I need my books dumbed down but I tend to stick with more traditional suspense like stalkers and serial kills instead of government agencies and covert missions. Still, the blurb for book one pulled me in and I’ve been invested in Misty Brook ever since.

One of my favorite things about this book is the hero. Sexy, capable, determined - the very definition of alpha. Fantastic heroes that are “all in” is a hallmark for this author and one I appreciate greatly. There was a good bit of build up before these characters finally got together as in really “together” but when they did, it was hot. The steamy bits were definitely well done. I did find myself feeling a teeny tiny bit sorry for Romanov. I know he was bad. Definitely bad but still... I felt bad. Am I the only one?

One quick note: I know the author says this book can work as a stand-alone. I think it could but I’d really recommend reading the earlier books first. The history and dynamics that are established in books one and two are really helpful in being able to jump back in to the craziness that is Misty Brook. Plus, the heroes are delicious in those books too so it’s not a hardship to start at the beginning.

Overall, this is a series I’ve enjoyed and I’m already looking forward to the authors next book.

It’s fun to know an author and to call her a friend. It’s especially fun when I know she likes her bossy possessive hero’s as much as me. Colt❤️ Intrigue and espionage is not my usual thing. But VP gives me a great romance too. The books keep getting better and the Misty Grove series is my favorite to date.

Unexpected Vows was my favorite book out of the prior two books in this series. It was a page turner and kept me at the edge of my seat. It even made me tear up closer to the end. I loved the main characters and the story in a whole. Colt finally got the woman of his dreams. He got much more then Kate. Kate and Colt got a big surprise early on in the story. They both took on the role of parenthood like pro's. I enjoyed the suspense factor and learning what Kate endured during the period of time when she was in Chrysalis. I love that this series ends with Kate's story. Kate fell in love with her handsome Cowboy early on. She stayed away to protect him from the pain of losing her. I loved that in the end Alek terminated his rights to the children. It allowed Colt to adopt Olivia & Josh. He finally got the family he always dreamed of. I will look forward to reading more by this author in the near future.

What A Wild Ride!
This story was exciting and quite the whirlwind adventure! It had lots of romance and suspense and some science fiction elements as well. This author always brings new and creative ideas to her stories. Her books are full of interesting details and entertaining plots. I certainly enjoyed Kate and Colt's journey back to one another. This is about a man who has a second chance with a woman he thought was lost to him, and a woman who is determined to live a detached life that’s focused on her job despite the unexpected love, family, and looming crisis that will spoil her plans.

I really loved Cord in this story. His devotion and deep feelings for Kate for so long despite her stubborn resistance made me love him from the beginning. He was fabulous! Kate was a little bit harder to understand. When the reader is reminded of her sterile upbringing and the loss of a sister, it makes sense that she would have a tough exterior and suspicious nature. It was nice to see her change once she accepts her feelings for Cole. This author likes to write about strong female characters. Kate is intelligent and brave enough to face whatever comes her way. She has a lot to deal with and thank goodness her super mental and physical strength made her uniquely qualified. She has always been independent, but she soon finds out that Cole will not let her suffer her many hardships alone.

I really liked the surprise of Kate’s unexpected children. It affected the dynamic of the couple’s relationship in a positive way and made for some true to life family moments. The instant family moves the couple’s relationship in the right direction. Because of their long separation, the couple’s love story was a slow burn that needed to happen at the right time. Cole is always steadfast, but also uses a lot of restraint and patience for an alpha male. He had his jealous, possessive, and sexy moments which I always enjoy.

The suspense and science fiction parts of the story were topnotch and creative. I hope we as humans never develop the technology to control a person’s mind and darker emotions. The concept was intriguing and the cause of the main crisis that comes into play when people who have been experimented upon are directed by maniacal forces to go on killing sprees. Kate and her children with their enhanced abilities are directly affected. Kate and Cole are trying to protect their family and hopefully save the rest of the world from destruction in an adventure that is full of twists and turns.

If you enjoy romantic suspense, strong male and female leads, and imaginative plots, I can’t recommend Ms. Paige’s stories enough. This is the third installment of the Misty Grove series and it did not disappoint. The epilogue was the satisfying cherry on top.

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy.

First off..

Thank you so much for my ARC!!!!

I have said it before and I am gonna say it again..

This author is pretty fricking awesome in the way that she writes extremelyyyy detailed books but still manages to not make them boring.

This was no exception.

And the storyline that she introduced is so frigging complicated and weird it got me thinking.. Wait is that even possible?

I don't wanna disclose it because it will basically ruin the entire essence of the story

The heroine is an enhanced soldier who is presumed dead by everybody for a long time and when she gets back with the ultimate hottie I want as my own Colt.. He knows he ain't letting her go again.. And what they discover together is weird af but still a fascinating concept..

The story was in a great flow. I instantly fell in love with Colt *drooling* and haaaah I love how VP's heroines are strong badasses but they are also stubborn as hell hardasses and that makes me MAD!

All in all I enjoyed the story I absolutely loved it. VP has her own unique writing style and I really enjoy it.

I’ve read this out of sync and need to go back to books 1*2 to understand more about what happened to certain characters.

This is a fast action, romantic suspense with some paranormal themes. Book 3 gives us Kate and Colt’s story. It was a remarkable story.

Good solid storyline and characters and a great delivery from Victoria Paige.

Back to book 1.

4.5 Stars Unexpected Vows is an adult romantic suspense thriller by Victoria Paige and the 3rd book in her Misty Grove series.

Kate Foster and her siblings were the product of a secret, non-sanctioned CIA project known as Chrysalis—human genetic engineering to create enhanced soldiers. Each ES pair was twins—male and female—with enhanced strength, stamina and recovery but there was an expiration date to their unusual strength and it was decided that at twenty-four they would be terminated—put down like rabid animals. Though, before that could happen they were rescued by Navy SEALs…everyone but Kate and her younger sister, Piper, who were believed to have perished in an explosion during the op.

Twelve years later, Kate was found in a catatonic state; the result of years of experiments by the Chrysalis program to find a cure to the ES expiration date. When she awoke, she found her siblings at the mercy of a psychotic enhanced soldier and realized that all of the sacrifices she had made for twelve years had been wiped out by the sister she had fought so long to protect. Piper’s betrayal, coupled with having had just come out of a catatonic state, numbed Kate to all emotions except anger, so she had fled with nothing more than some cash, a pickup and the clothes on her back.

Following the botched mission to take down the Chrysalis program, former Navy SEAL, Colt Montgomery, was offered guardianship of two of Kate’s siblings—Cassie and Lucas. One of the stipulations for their rescue was that the twins were to be shielded from the outside world until they reached the age of twenty-four when they would no longer be a threat to society. And Matt—Kate’s twin—wanting to be close to his siblings, opened a garage not too far away. The agency secured two hundred acres of land in Buckland County and Montgomery Ranch was born. There was a structure behind the main residence referred to as the Annex, which provided injured operatives a safe haven for recovery. That had started the steady influx of burned CIA operatives and the area evolved into the town of Misty Grove.

For twelve years Colt thought Kate was dead and he won’t be denied a second chance for a future with the woman he loves. But when a string of mass killings grips the nation in fear, Colt is asked by Admiral Porter—the silent operator behind most of the joint CIA-SpecOps missions—to keep some high-value assets safe, forcing Kate to face a responsibility she never saw coming…someone has been performing disturbing genetic experiments on children—twin eight-year-olds.

Unexpected Vows is the best Misty Grove book yet! There’s plenty of romantic suspense and some science fiction elements as well. Although this story can be read as a standalone, I strongly recommend reading the first two books in the series. Paige consistently brings new and creative ideas to her stories with strong male and female leads, which I love. Her books are engaging and her plots imaginative. I look forward to the next book in the series and hope the author doesn’t keep her readers waiting for too long!

This book is a romance, sci fi, thriller amalgamation of a book. Romance, sweet heat of sex twists and turns, characters to love and respect, characters who are stubborn, short sighted and wilfull, scary government types with agendas, you will either love or hate the overtones of big brother. I loved the layers of the story, the unexpected. Recommended.

Kate Foster is a bounty hunter and someone who is not ready for a relationship after blaming herself for the death of her sister Piper. She is pulling away from her remaining siblings and from Colt Montgomery who always seems to be around her.

Colt Montgomery is a former Navy Seal and is now working for Task Force Shadow Track while running his ranch. He has believed that Kate has been dead for the last twelve years and now he doesn't want to let her go.

When Admiral Porter arrives at the Ranch with twins, both Colt and Kate need to make choices not only for themselves but for them as well. Soon they realize that they may be closer to danger than they could have believed and how far will Colt go to protect Kate?

This is such a good series and I am really enjoying each new book that comes out!

I love Colt and seriously want a real life version of him for myself!! I have liked him since the series started but this book was his to completely out shine everyone!! He is pure alpha but at the same time he is very caring and was so good to Olivia and Josh. He was so protective of Kate and he knew what he wanted from her and really didn't want to settle for less than that.

Kate was so complex as she was broken from the past and had so much guilt from what happened with Piper. She felt like she didn't deserve love so she pushed Colt away. Yet when she found about the twins she had to step up and allow herself to love and be loved in return.

I loved the mystery with the mass killings and how everything tied in to the past.

I liked how Kate realized she had to do what she needed to do to protect the kids and therefore let Colt take the lead with certain things.

The end was so full of tension and I was freaking out a little although I knew the author wouldn't let me down!!

Such a great series and I hope more books are coming!

An absorbing mix of romantic suspense and science fiction…

This is the third book in the Misty Grove series that can be read as a stand-alone. This book completes the picture of Kate Foster that began in prior books.

Years ago as a Navy SEAL Colt Montgomery first met the enhanced soldier Kate Foster during one of his missions. She was genetically engineered to attract and easily seduce men yet he knew what he felt for her was real, his feelings were not an artificially induced reaction, the impact she made on him stayed with him through the years. When she was presumed dead he mourned her, when she found in a catatonic state he cared for her, when she awoke and left he hoped she’d return.

Enhanced soldiers are genetically modified humans with an expiration date on their fullest potency. They are dangerous, outlets for their aggression are a necessity for long-term survival. As a product of the enhanced soldier program Kate Foster’s life had never been her own until now, away from those in the government who manipulated and controlled her. She sacrificed herself to protect the siblings she raised and now feels guilt over the death of Piper, the sister that she could not save.

With random persons committing mass killings around the nation Kate is recalled to the Montgomery Ranch. This time Colt is not letting her go, the searing attraction has always been mutual but a long-kept secret is revealed that upends Kate’s reality and exhibits the degree of sacrifice she’d been unknowingly forced to make. It’s not surprising that Kate doesn’t want to form attachments yet she is still human and finds herself fighting her own emotions. To protect those around her she’ll do what is necessary since a solution to another revealed problem may not be found in time.

This author takes things to the edge of credibility and manages to make a rather complex storyline entwined with science fiction themes work, the concepts were intriguing. The story has action and suspense with engaging relatable characters, a town with interesting residents, secret government agencies, an enamored Russian stalker, and the existence of unexpected children. This reader thoroughly enjoyed the mix.

An advanced reading copy was obtained from the author.

This is a twisted, intriguing, suspenseful and romantic story. Colt has been in love with Kate for more than 13 years, 12 of which he thought she was dead. Kate has been running from Colt, believing that she was incapable of feeling love, for him or anyone. Colt is bold, determined, caring, charming and gentle. Kate is stubborn, tough, insecure and impulsive. When Colt's boss introduces two children he wants Colt to care for, Colt is floored, because the little girl could be Kate when she was young. He gets irate and hurt, thinking that Kate had children and didn't tell anybody, and didn't keep. Kate is more than a bit shocked when she sees them, not understanding how the girl can look exactly like her when she never had children. Kate, her siblings and these children are special though, they have super abilities that they were engineered to have and they were all trained to be killers. The children's father is obsessed with Kate and wants her, the crazy that made Kate and the others wants Kate and her daughter and an American agency would like to have Kate and her daughter under their thumb. There's so much drama going on that it's impossible to not get drawn in. It's a creepy, heartwarming and thrilling book.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Hidden Gems. This is my honest and voluntary opinion of it.

Kate is back in her families lives but likes to keep her distance as she still doesn't feel right about everything and making it harder is Colt who keeps hovering near her and has loved her for a long time but she has never reciprocated. Just when she was getting into her bounty hunting work she is pulled back to the ranch and her family as well as finds out a shocking secret kept from her which will change her life forever. The fact that Kate is loveable at times and snippy other times makes you really get that she is really torn with what she wants and what she thinks she deserves and I love Colt's determination for her to see he really means how he feels and she does deserve a happy ever after. There are plenty of rad blocks and twists that they have to get through but it will be well worth it and I just love the latest 2 additions to Misty Groves, everyone will fall in love with those munchkins! <3

So if you've read the other books, you know how much Colt was in love with Kate. He's had it bad for her. This is finally their story and it was good.. A little weird but it works.
It scares me a little, with what goes thru this author's mind as she's writing these books. I mean, half the stuff that I'm sure was important went right over my head and the twist I didn't see coming but I'm not sure if it was really necessary. I mean it did stop an important moment in the book but it didn't feel right to me. I know it's fiction but some of it felt a bit to far fetched to me. Colt and Kate have chemistry but it's basically a forced together to save her life kinda thing. I don't know, maybe it just wasn't for me.

It would have been better if I had read the first two books in the series first so that I would have a better overall feeling of the situation. The story line involved people who were engineered to be enhanced and used as soldiers. Kate is one of them. She also has siblings and kids who are enhanced. Colt is the former Navy Seal who is in love with Kate. Sometimes he really comes across a bit too stalker/creepy for my taste. Kate is a bit of a train wreck who just seems to be quite cruel to Colt and her family much of the time. Kate's character became more interesting as the book went on, and so did the story line. I'm glad that I finished reading the whole book. It was pretty good. I did read this book for free, and this is my honest review.

Kat Foster ---- after all she has endured in her past she vows to live a life of solitude
Colt Montgomery ---- has always loved Kat and vows not to give up on her.

This book has so much action, romance, angst and surprises. It will keep you reading from page one. From the first two books you know a little about Kat and Colt's past but there is so much more to be told. What Kat has to endure was unthinkable and what the company has been doing is unthinkable. Bring in children and it turns into a wild ride.

This book was just the right amount of romance and action. Throw in suspense, surprises, mass destruction, secrets and obsessions you get a page turning read.

Kate became a bounty hunter after the death of her sister Piper and with her partner Frances they bring in the bad guys. But the past haunts her and she can't let her guard down and so she tries to not feel anything and while her family want her to stay around and be close she just can't seem to do it. Trent Stone her sister Cassie's husband wants her to be close to them and yet she just can't bring herself to do it. This book is good and intense the hurt in her past is really keeping her from truly living but, this worth reading if you like book that takes you through so much but leaves you wanting more.

This is book 3 in the Misty Grove series. You don't have tonread the other stories but they do help with the back story.  This is about Kate and Colt.  She feels broken and doesn't want her family to see. Kate is trying to find herself so she takes a job as a bounty hunter. Colt just wants Kate. He fell for her when he meet her. Then thought she was gone. When she needed him he was there even if she didn't need it. Sparks start flying when Kate starts to open up. This series keeps getting better and better.

Unique & Reread Worthy

Mystic Grove has secrets it holds closely to its chest, and for good reason. It's residents consists of a unique group of chosen family with a past that haunts them. I keep coming back to this series. It manages to be original, boasting a strong FMC while incorporating elements of science fiction with alpha protector vibes and small town romance charm. The only thing that always disappoints me is that the series seemed to end with the conclusion of the third book. I would have loved at least a 4th installment for Lucas.

I have loved every book by Victoria Paige and there is a reason for it. Her characters are well developed and do not suffer from TSTL moments. She knows how to write badass female characters that can kick ass and be vulnerable at the same time. I have waited a long time for Unexpected Vows and it was worth the time.

I loved this novel! This novel grabbed me from the very first page and just would not let me put it down until the very last page. I love how this author writes. I loved the chemistry between Kate and Colt. I loved the dialogue, so good. The novel kept me guessing but I loved the twists and turns. Sometimes I wanted to shake Kate but I loved how Colt loved her. I loved this novel.

There is so much going on in this book, I hardly know where to begin! There are twists and turns galore, heartbreak, reunions, surprises and the chance at unconditional love and redemption for several characters. I enjoyed this book very much, and the characters are amazing; complex, realistic, and so real they grip your heart until the very end.

I am usually not a fan of scientific reads, but this one changed my mind!! This book really had my mind wandering if any of this is true. It's very entertaining and well written. There is also lots of suspense, twists and turn and sexiness all rolled into one awesome book. I haven't read the other two books in the series, but I definitely will now. This one is a must read!

This author really knows how to get you right into her books. The main character Kate was greiving her sisters death and trying to live a Solitude life. She was determined to resist the handsome Rancher/ Seal Colt. Colt had his only story and he was going to get Kate to be his no matter what. Great story with twists you didn't see coming. Great book.

Another epic story by Victoria Paige. Unexpected vows blew me away.

A real rollercoaster ride with twists and turns that keep you guessing.

If you have not read any of Victoria Paige books it would be a good idea to start now. All her books to date that I have read have been all worth 5 star ratings.
