No doubt, the English have a very good sense of humour! But did you know that the English language itself is hilarious too? Beyond the well known phrase ‘it’s raining cats and dogs’, this language boasts a wide range of very funny and, sometimes, cheeky (not to say rude) phrases that this book invites you to discover. Can you guess what the English mean when they say ‘To have a bee in your bonnet’ or ‘You can’t polish a turd!’ or even ‘ It’s dog’s bollocks!’? These phrases are introduced in context through five hilarious anecdotes depicting two young Frenchmen’s first trip to England. A glossary is also provided at the end of each story to help you check and fully enjoy the humorous meaning of these handpicked phrases. This book is aimed at any adult reader with a good sense of humour and/or an interest in the English language and culture. The ideal gift book for your friends or family! The perfect guide for your study of the idiomatic phrases you won’t find in your textbook! It is also recommended to College or University students in need of a motivational boost in their English studies.
