Rescuing His Heart

Rate this book
Kai~
I’ve been dreaming of him for about a year, but I don’t know why. I have no clue who he is. But when a crazed shifter captures me and starts torturing me for information about the blond-haired stranger, I start to realize that he might be the only one that can save me… and I have no clue how to reach him from the prison I’m trapped in.

Patty~
I can’t get that green-eyed stranger out of my head. I’m drawn to him… I know what he is to me… but he works for the enemy, for the Ministry, so he’s off-limits. Or at least he was until my worst nightmare started using him as bait. But what can I do? I can’t let him die just because he’s connected to me. I can’t let him die just because that bastard Edward has gotten his claws into him… but what can I do to protect him?

Will Patty be able to save Kai from Edward’s clutches? Will they be able to move past their differences and come together to save not only themselves, but their loved ones as well?

***Rescuing His Heart is the second book in the Reclaiming Hope series. Each book in the series will feature a different couple, but it is recommended that you read the books in order because you will get more enjoyment out of the story. It’s a paranormal shifter romance between two men and is intended for Adults Only.***

Michele Notaro

Michele is married to an awesome guy that puts up with her and all the burnt dinners she makes—hey, sometimes characters are a bit distracting, and who doesn’t plot when they’re supposed to be cooking? They live together in Baltimore, Maryland with two little monsters, a three-legged princess, a four-legged goofball, and a cutie with giant ears (aka their two kids, their two cats, and their dog). She hopes to rescue another cat soon, and if her hubby wouldn’t kill her, she’d get more than one… and maybe a few more dogs as well.

She loves creating worlds filled with lots of love, chosen family, and of course, magic, but she also likes making the characters fight for that happy ending. She hopes to one day write all the stories in her head—even if there are too many to count!

Kai + Patty

It really puts a damper on the whole true mate thing when you find them only to find out they're mated with someone else. Not just someone else but one of the most vile shifters to exist.
Patty and Kai having been dreaming of each other for over a year after their first encounter of meeting each other on opposites sides of the war. For a year, dreams persist between the two. They grow stronger when Kai is taken by Edward and tortured. Edward stakes a claim on Patty and will not let anyone have him.
Patty and his pack must find Kai before Edward kills him. Patty knows what it is like yo be tortured by Edward for he spent 200 years having it done to him.
There is a lot of back and forth with Edward. In order to save Kai, Patty gives Edward what he really wants. Meaning Patty gives himself to Edward. So the shoe is on the other foot and Kai has to save Patty from Edward.
When they finally do escape and are able to be together, Patty is unable to full on bond with Kai. For Patty bonded himself to Edward and in order for Patty and Kai to be able to bond they must defeat Edward and break the bond Edward has with Patty. But wait there's more, there is also the problem of Kai's ministry marker. It's killing him and if he doesn't check in with the Ministry he will die. So they also have to find away to break the curse of the Ministry Marker on Kai.
Needless to say they have a lot of obstacles to get by before they can be bonded.
Overall it was a decent read even if, at times, it was overly sappy with too much repetivness going on with the main MCs.

Rescuing His Heart
By Michelle Notaro

Patrick and Kai are enemies in a war, but after Patty saves Kai's life instead of killing him, Kai begins to dream about Patty. Unbeknownst to Kai, Patty is dreaming about him too. When Patty realizes Kai was kidnapped and is being tortured by an evil man who once did the same to him he vows to save Kai.

This is an amazing book, but it is also extremely sad and has high angst for most of it. At two separate points I had to take a break for a few days because the emotions were so overwhelming. I love Patrick and Kai and really connected with their relationship and their emotions and everything they experienced good and bad on a deep level. The book is in both Patty and Kai's POV. Their pack is just as loveable.

My only regret is I didn't start with book one of this series.

I liked it, even though the story was a lot similar to the first one.
I really like the characters and the universe... They're all very lovable... And the back story keep getting more interesting. I want to know more about Ronan and the Doc..

I will definitely continue on, now that we have vampires and spellcasters and witches...

I like this series but I had some troubles with this story ...

first of all, Kai was not one of my favorite characters. I just could not connect with him - it got better in the end but nevertheless
second, it was a bit repetitive ... which made it not so great to read
and third, and I can't believe I say that as I normally love longer books ... it was a bit long, maybe because of point 2

but I really look forward to the next one .... and I really want to have Ronans and Docs story (no matter if together or not). these two are really complex characters, which makes them much more interesting

Fairly standard shifter type universe with a rebel vs corrupt military power plot including fated mates. No Mpreg. This book vanquished the foe and introduced a new one.

Hardly any sex in this book until the very end.

I loved this! I am so glad Kai and Patty got their happy ending after going through so much. The war is still brewing but I can’t wait to read about Chris and Dregan.

I loved patty in the last book and I loved him so much in his book. I just wanted to wrap him in a blanket and cuddle him. I’m so happy Kai was there for him. Even though Kai was tortured in the beginning he was nothing but weak. The patience and love Kai showed throughout the book was admirable. I loved how they supported each other and never pressured each other to move forward in the real auto ship. They were couple goals and healthily help led each other overcome their trama.

Edward had it coming…

As a side note, I was seriously side eyeing Chris and Dregan. Their dynamic is going to be fun and sexy. Fingers crossed.

4.25 'This was another great read in this series that now has me waiting highly impatiently for the next book. I loved Patty in the previous book, that happy go lucky everybody's friend that you love instantly. Seeing the pain that he had endured in the past and did again in the present was heart breaking. I adored Kai and adored Kai with Patty and was so glad when that bastards connection was broken. So so looking forward to Chris's book, can not fucking wait' stars.

Gritty.

A random encounter brings two souls together who must reconnect and heal each other. This is dark with torture and pain but there are moments of hope and tenderness. I love the pack and their fight for each other. I felt for all the characters and am jumping right in to the next book.

Sat in my Kindle Unlimited pile for a few months, took several tries to finish it. Not bad, just not as compelling as the first in the series.

This is the second book in this series and I recommend that they be read in order. This series is addictive, intense and emotional - this is definitely one of those series you don’t want to miss a minute of.

I had high expectations after reading the first book and the author didnt disappoint. I was completely blown away by this story - it was heartbreaking, sad yet funny in places too.

Poor Kai was tortured slowly and my heart broke every time Patty visited him. The author captured every emotion so beautifully yet powerfully. Their bond was breathtaking and their love made my heart warm and fuzzy.

Patty makes the ultimate sacrifice but will he survive the fate that awaits him? Patty was amazing and I felt his pain, sadness and guilt throughout the entire story.

Chris and Dregan’s - we get little glimpses of these two and their bond. I eagerly look forward to reading their story.

I am at 16% and want to DNF. This will going to be a long read. It will drag on and on and every time they get ahead they will do a stupid thing that sets them back again. If you are happy to read it, be my guest and read.

I did it. I pushed through and finished it. I revised my rating from two to four stars because all the questions I had kind of get answered in the next chapter. Yes, you read that right. Edward has a castle, Tre and Kai actually have a plan and a few new players get introduced. Seems we know already that Chris will be next in line to find his mate. So the story picks up after the 16% mark and I really liked the flow of it. It's enough action and down time for the pack. I don't want to put more into spoiler brackets so I leave it at the story gets better but the overall arc of the story, the war between rebels and ministry doesn't look like it's coming to an end soon. This leaves us at the end with a few questions. What's Ronan's story? Can they break Felix's spell? Assuming all the pack will find their true mates, will the war end at some point? Looking forward to read the next one.

I am including the novella that follows book 2, because it’s really sweet and you should absolutely read it if you’re a fan of the series. It gives some more back story and helps move the series along, though it’s not required I do think it helps.
I gotta be honest with you. I skimmed the entire first 50% of book 2 – it was just too dark/depressing/much for me right now. I had not been keeping track of this series and when the audio for book 1 came out it reminded me about how much I enjoyed it and I found 2 more full stories and 2 novellas I had missed! It was like Christmas in May! LOL
But… I’ve never been a fan of dystopian romances and this is that in spades. I simply could not read about all the dark times, the being separate, the evil bad guys doing evil bad things and so on. It was too much. But… I love these characters and I really wanted to make it to book 3 which was really calling to me – so I skimmed. It wasn’t that bad and when I got to (about) the 50% mark our MCs are finally back with one another and working together to solve their problems. Phew. That – at least – wasn’t too bad and I enjoyed reading it from there forward.
You have to be tenacious. These guys keep getting hit – over and over – by really bad things and it affects everything.
However, the author has done a really nice job of giving us a lot of happy to balance that. I will say that I super love the rumbling chests, the super over zealous “mine” possessiveness and the scenting, hugging, and other Wolfy type behavior. I could do with a bit less smexy times – they seem to happen a lot once our guys get together – but – like I said – it’s to balance the ugly so…
The little novella is a nice touch and helps to round out Felix a bit and I can’t wait for his story!
Highly enjoyable and recommended – with the caveat of “be warned – it’s dark and angsty as F.”

Audio
Kenneth Obi does a nice job with this. There are a lot of characters and he helps to keep them separated. This is a good way to enjoy this story.

Overall 4 of 5 stars

Oh my word, this woman can write. Only one chapter in, and she had me crying already. And it didn’t stop after that. This book is a page-turner of the highest order. Every chapter had me on the edge of my seat and gave me all the feels. It is a roller coaster of emotions that made me laugh, cry, sigh, angry and back again. But most of all, I felt the love. The love between the pack members and so much love between Patty and Kai. I don’t know how she does it, but this author has a knack for bringing the characters to live. Even with only having seen each other in their dreams the connection between Patty and Kai is tangible. She didn’t tell me, she didn’t show me, no, she let it feel me.
But if you think, this is a sappy love story, you are mistaken. This is so much more than that. It is nail-biting thrilling and exciting. My heart kept beating in my throat the entire time dealing with the surprising twists in this story. Some were grueling, to say the least, and others heartbreakingly poignant. I can go on gushing about this book, but you will have to read it for yourself. Then you know what I am talking about.
It is a story about finding your True Mate, defending your loved ones at all costs, and having a family when you least expect it.
I seriously want to be a member of the Arlin pack. Tre and Nate, Chris, Spencer, and the others. How can you not love them? And Felix. Oh my, I love Felix to pieces. He is such a sweet and brave little wolf.
This is the second book in the Reclaiming Hope series, and it can’t be read as a stand-alone. The books have different main characters, but there is a continuing story arc that can only be enjoyed if you read the books in order.

So... 2.5 rounded to 3 for GoodReads. I loved the 1st book even the reread. It was engaging despite the repetition. Unfortunately, I struggled to engage in this one, and that made slogging through the repetitive dialog much more tedious. I knew I was in trouble when I found excuses to put it down; instead of being difficult to stop reading, it was much harder to pick it back up.

For me, it felt like the entire book was graphic torture, search, rescue, talk ad nauseum while traveling- then repeat, then repeat for a 3rd time etc... It just draggggged. Kai alone repeated 5 or 6 times about not ttusting pack, not understanding Tre. That would be bad enough but multiple aspects were like that: Edward's evilness, search for a cure for Felix, getting in the truck and how they sat, Tru Mates purr, the need to mate but not being "ready", and much more. It felt like an endless cycle for a small step forward in the plot. By the end, not only was I not engaged in the story but I never really connected with the M/C's. I loved Patrick, but mostly based off the 1st book.

It looks like this series was never finished, but I'm still going to read the 3rd book based on the 1st. I will add that I am reading back to back. I'm sure that can effect the repetitive feel. But even if I wasn't reading back to back, the level of repetition is almost insulting.

This was another a good listen, but I have to say, not as captivating as the first.
The storyline as a whole was good, but it just lacked ‘that something’ that the first book had.
Whether it was because of such a gap between release of the audiobook (9 months!), I can’t say for definite, but it took me a lot longer to listen to than the first audiobook, (9 days, wheareas I finished the first audiobook in 3 days).
The character of Paddy was good, because of his history with the villain Edward, but Kai, his character came across as vapid and not quite the sharpest knife in the drawer, if you catch my drift and probably why I didn’t enjoy this story so much.

I just found it really difficult to keep my attention in the story. If it wasn’t for the characters ‘Chris & Spence’ with their humour throughout the audiobook keeping my attention, I think I would have lost the plot (literally!)

Overall I’d give it 5🌟, but it was the storyline in the end that dropped it to 4🌟

Here’s hoping that book 3 isn’t going to take another 9 months and the storyline/characters improve. I hope book 3 is about Chris and his vampire - that will definitely be more interesting!

I have been waiting forever for Rescuing his Heart after reading How We Survive. This is Pattie and Kai’s story and stands alone Okay, but you will understand it much better if you read in order.
Patty and Kai meet very briefly at the very end of the first book, but they have been dreaming of each other for about a year and can’t understand why there is a strange wolf in their dreams. When Kai is captured by Edward and tortured to near death his visions become more frequent.

This is such a good wolf shifter book. It stays strong to the pack dynamics and true mate dynamics but still feels new and fresh. The characters are so likable and strong, and the story is well developed and keeps you pulled in the action.
I listened to this on audio and love the narration. I think Kenneth obi just adds to the characters and his evil voice for Edward makes you shiver. He always ups the game of a good story with his narration as he never just reads the book but acts it out so you get sighs, feel the excitement, nerves, you can feel impending doom, etc. If you can, I highly suggest the audio as it gives you a hands-free way to enjoy a story while doing mundane tasks.

3.5 rounded down

Not quite as enjoyable as the first book, but I do so enjoy this world, and find myself quite excited to continue to follow this pack. This one was a bit darker than the first, and it continues to build on a lot of the set-up in book one. I'm quite curious to see what the author does with this series, as it seems like it has the potential to be quite lengthy, given the current pace.

With this one, I honestly just couldn't really get investing in Kai and Patty. I hadn't been all that interested at the end of book 1, and while I was hoping this book would change it for me, it just never did. I didn't dislike them or anything, but for some reason I found their story and connection a bit bland. Maybe because so much of the ~big~ conflict happens earlier in the book, and after that is sort of recovery/healing? IDK, whatever it was, I found myself MUCH more interested in the glimpses we got of the pairing in the next book. I'm eagerly awaiting it! :D

⚠️⚠️Abuse on and off page. PTSD and abuse survivors be aware that you might be triggered especially in chapter 10. As an abuse survivor with CPTSD, this book definitely hit close to home for me. I needed to take a few breaks while reading because of how much (too much) I identified with the victim (s) .

📚- book 2 of 3 of the Reclaiming Hope series

🌶️- two-ish spicy scenes that were pretty good but the spice was reduced for me because of knowing exactly how Patty (and Chris) felt as abuse survivors .

✅Found Family

✅Supportive friends and partners that supported and took care of the abuse survivors and didn't victim blame

This series so far has been very raw and as real as a paranormal /dystopian suspense romance novel can be. The violence and various traumas of the characters really hit hard , I think especially if you can relate to any of the traumatic situations the characters find themselves in.

I was really looking forward to this instalment of the series - in book one Patty was a huge character and we caught a glimpse of Kai that held much promise. however, whilst I loved P/K struggles to be together and mate the storyline seemed a bit like the gift that kept on giving, with Kai in mortal peril, the Patty, the Kai... rinse and repeat. It was good, but it just went on to long, and honestly, I wanted to read more about Chris and Dregan as Patty and Kai were enough already! And poor Felix, shoved to the side again...

I’m a little nervous that this series is going to go the same way as Taoree for me - where book one blew me away, book two was solid but then book three was just too much action and not enough people. Still - I reeeaalllyy want to read about Chris and Dregan so I’ll definitely pick up book three.

3 stars for P/K and one extra for C/D <3

Patty was one of my favorite characters in the last book, so I was glad we finally got to read his story. I thought Kai made a good mate for him. Their story was hard to read in places, especially at the beginning. It definitely is not for the faint of heart. I was also glad to read more about the other members of the pack, Chris and Felix especially.

If I had a complaint, it would be that it took a bit too long for Patty and Kai to complete their bond. The constant growling every time one or the other got too close to other pack members got a be tedious. Also, be aware that this book ends in a cliff hanger and cannot be read as a stand-alone story.

Overall, it was a good second installment in the Reclaiming Hope series. I highly recommend it, especially if you enjoyed the first book in the series. I for one can’t wait for the next installment.

This second book of the "Reclaiming Hope" series is definitely on the more dark side and touches on some subject matter which may bother some readers. I did read some reviews before I began this book, and almost didn't get it because of them. I am glad I went ahead and continued with the series.

There were a few parts of the book which I found a bit more difficult to get through. It has to be acknowledged that the author has created her own world of shifters with it's own rules. That being said, the perception of fated mates, called "True Maters" in this series, is handle in a way that, even upon meeting, they may not always realize what the draw is right from the start. Some comments referenced mates being intimate with others and not their fated one. Although something of that sort does happen in this book, it is before they have claimed each other, is only referenced and not given actual scenes, and the whole reason the MC was cast into this predicament is caused from two very specific events; said MC did not do this out of true desire to be with this particular character. It was not a high point for me in the book an is one of the main reasons that I gave it 4 stars. However, this story was worth the read.

There is backstory which has to be addressed, so at times it may seem lengthy, but it is better to know what has driven the characters to think or act the way they do. All characters, both MCs and secondary, are fleshed out very well and intertwined throughout the story. Even though this about one particular "True Mate" pair, the secondaries are quite involved, even those who may not make it that far in the book.

Once again this fine lady has amazed me. I was so excited for this book and trust me when I say it didn’t let me down.
Patty’s story is so heartbreaking and I’m sure I speak for everyone when I say I just wanted his HEA. This story has so many feels from both Kai and Patty and it’ll make you feel every emotion possible.
Michele’s writing always seems so pure to me, she means everything she writes and you can feel that in the books you read.
She also never leaves you 100% happy (in a good way thought) cause the little bits she puts in throughout the book and then the last bit for the following book to come!! I may just start chanting Dregan now cause god knows I love me some vampires.

An excellent book would highly recommend.

I really enjoyed this latest installment in the Reclaiming Hope series!!! This is Patty and Kai's story which we met in the last book. Kai is being held captive by a very cruel man and Patty is desperate to save him. Their journey to each other isn't easy, there are twists and turns and bumps along the road that neither of them could of predicted. Their love for each other will see them through all their trials. Their connection was true and a real treat to read about. They made me laugh, cry, and root for their love. Their story was so worth the wait!! I can't wait for the next book in the story....omg Dregan!!!! I would recommend this story to everyone...its a great book. Well done!!!!

Fantastic - blow you away good!

Oh my god! OH MY GOD! This book right here! THIS book was so fantastic! Just every last thing about it was so good! This part 2 in the series is everything I could have dreamed of and more! Yes there were difficult parts, parts I wish weren’t there to begin with, but it was part of who these characters were. And nothing less would do! This was action packed right from the get go! The villains are so good, the MCs and supporting characters just amazing and the plot phenomenal! I literally cannot wait for book 3! How amazing does that book sound!

A must read! 10stars!

Michele Notaro did it again and give us a masterpiece.
Patty and Kai are heartbreaking and beautiful.
They had a difficult past and a lot of traumatic memories. They, both wear scares deep in their souls. But they fought it hard, with the help and loves of each other. How they both were able to put aside their problems in order to help the other. It was just amazing.
Michele Notaro was brilliant again, and give us a beautiful love story. The universe become more complex. We knew about the war between Rebels and Ministry, but she added new comers with the Vamps, the Spellcasters and Witches.
I can't emphasize enough... YOU NEED THIS SERIES IN YOUR PAL
You won't regret it
