2020 Review

I honestly struggled to get through this one. They saved all the judges, which was some cool action I guess. But seven guys is just too much. It’s super bold if the author because the more guys there are the harder it is to make each of them unique and distinguishable from each other. Which, unfortunately, was something that the author didn’t achieve. Literally every one is the guys had dark hair, dark eyes, and golden brown skin. So there wasn’t much variety in the looks department. And we didn’t get to know any of them better, and still know nothing of their pasts.

I did really like how Poppy is a descendant of a demon and can shift into one. It was super bad ass.

Daughter of Hades picked up right where the first book left off. Now Poppy and her hellhounds are searching for the judges (even more sexy guys. YAY!) But some complications pop up. Like the goddess Hel who wants Poppy’s rightful throne, and the Alpha group with that bitch lady. Everyone is after her judges. Will they be able to reach the in time? Or will they fail just like Katherine did?

What?!? You can’t just end a book like that! I need more, ASAP! Really excited they are finally going to the Underwold. Can’t wait to see what it’s like. Anyways, this book a way more action in it. I loved this book way more for it. Poppy is finally coming into her powers and she is getting to know her guys better, whil adding more into the mix! Don’t really know how the demon thing ties into everything though. Hopefully we’ll get to find out in the next book. Hunter got a little more tolerable in this one. He is still being a douchebag though. He just needs to let go and act on his feelings! Or at least, he doesn’t have to be a jerk to Poppy. Hope we get to know the judges more, and see more of Nolan!

Some of the complaints I had with the first book were remedied here. We have much more action and adventure as well as Poppy learning about her new role and what she can do. I think her being able to communicate and even help ghosts is pretty awesome. The little lady in the guys' house reminds me of a sweet lil grandma so I hope she's able to help her find peace. As for the romance. WTF is happening? This book and the first don't even make it to 400 pages yet we have the addition of four new men. I barely had the first three straight and separated in my mind and now she has so many more and for what? I'm not clear on their roles much but that's probably because my mind blanked on some parts trying to grasp all this in my head. Normally I'd be OK with this if the books were much longer but as it stands there are now far too many characters. The plot is decent but I wish it was given more screen time if you will. As there are so many men now a lot of the book is them flirting or f*cking and it just takes up so much time in this less than 200 page book. I did enjoy the ending and thought it ending with them on the way to the Underworld, where she will or won't claim her throne was perfect. Just wish I wasn't so overwhelmed by characters. With only one book left I'm eager to see what happens when they make it down there and how it will all play out!

Poppy continues her journey to claim her crown. I can't say too much in case someone reads this before they read book #1.
There is a lot of sexy time... but not so much that you miss a story line.
There is group sex - no MM - only a female with multiple partners. There is no jealousy between the partners either.

I will admit though I would prefer to have some males within her court that she isn't attracted too or that aren't attracted to her. Though to point out she hasn't slept with all the males in her court but they are attracted to each other.
Poppy is a great Leading Lady though she isn't a bad ass... Wish she was an all powerful character but she holds her own.
Book ends on a cliff hanger so I will be reading Book #3 the final book in this trilogy.

Poppy has found all her hell hounds & accepted the she is the descendant of Persephone.

But now she has to find & bound with her three judges. Can she find the judges & make it to the underworld in one piece?

Hunter has made the blood bound with her but can't form a bigger bound because of his love for the former queen. Will he ever want more from Poppy?

Daughter of Hades didn't pull me into the story as quickly, or deeply as book one, so I ended up reading a couple other books before trying again. Fast-paced, non-stop action, but this just didn't suck me in.

I'm enjoying the group that Poppy is accumulating. The amount of sex is a bit much but with so many men, I guess it's to be expected. Still, hopefully there will be more relationship and connections eventually.

A bit more original than the first book, but wow, so many love interests and I feel like we're meeting them too fast. I think with this many love interests it really needs to be a slow burn so that we actually get to know them, but I'll still continue bc its not a bad listen on audible

Impulsive

This seemed so short. I am kind of mad at the heroine because of her controlling nature. She can't just sit it out and take care of herself.

I’m a sucker for any Greek mythology! These books have all the potential of a really interesting story but unfortunately the story just seems like a sideline to erotica, and not a detailed sideline story either. I read book 2 hoping that now that the MC had her main entourage that the story would become the focus but now I can see that the story is barely playing in the background just to move time forward to bring forth more erotic scenes. I found myself starting to skip past those scenes just so I could get more into the story and it was almost impossible to find the bits and pieces.

Honestly it just gets more and more ridiculous. Like really? A seven-some or eight-some or whatever?? I’ve lost count of how many men are crawling over this one chick like honestly. It’s not realistic nor attractive to be having sex with at many people at once and nobody has a problem with it??? Okaayyyy like I know different strokes for different folks but goddamn.

I'm going to stick with the series as these are short and there is only one left, but I am not loving this series now. There are some things that I do enjoy about it, but there are others that I do not.

I like some of the characters in this series. I will admit that they are not fleshed out very much, even with the dual points of view, but they are enjoyable to read about. Some of the world building is great. I love the idea of the in-between and the souls that inhabit it. The fact that this series recognizes other afterlife belief systems is pretty great, too, and making the the agents of Hel a nemesis is fun to read about. I also enjoy the fact that there is a human governmental faction that has an interest in the successor of the Underworld. Although they haven't explained how it is possible, I also like that some of he agents of Alpha are long lived.

One of the main problems that I have with this series is the writing of the reverse harem. I think that these novels are too short for there to be so many of them. It feels like the author does not know what to do with them all at once. This gives the appearance of there really only being two love interest, being Emmett and Knox, with the others just being extras that hang out with or without clothes. In the beginning, she was very careful to have one on one time with these two characters, but after the inital sex scene with Nolan, she has to have one or both of those characters with her. Even when she is with one of the others, Em or Knox has to come back and have a last go. For example, when Cass was with her for the first time, he releases and then Emmett takes his place. The rest of them keep going, but Cass is never mentioned again. Which kind of brings me to another piece of weirdness for me. After Cass just disappears, Nolan sitting on the bed with himself in hand watching Poppy, Emmett, and Knox. Nolan and Poppy start sending mental images to each other. Of each other. This kind of reminded me of texting during sex and I wonder how into it Poppy is to be able to focus and so this. And Nolan is happy being able to just sit and watch because it makes her happy and he feels like his mental pictures he sent to her helped her climax. Which brings me back to the two main love interest and interchangeable extras.

I'm going to read the next novel. I love retellings of fairy tales and mythology. That combined with the fact that they are fairly short and I'm curious to see how they prevail. Poppy has two more judges and a hellhound to add to her harem, and I'm also curious to see how the author is going to pull it off, but tbh, my expectations are not high.

Is this a trashy paranormal romance book? Yes. Do I now want to read everything by Helen Scott? Also yes.

As I said in my review of Daughter of Persephone I love the reverse harem trope. I love poly situations. One-on-one romances are just less interesting to me. The more the merrier, right? ;)
I thought Scott did a good job with introducing the new guys, the guys reaching compersion, and how Poppy worked really hard at keeping track of all of her bonds with the hunks. I mean guardians and judges. :P

That being said, I did have a couple of critiques:

1) OMG why isn't Poppy bi?????? This line: "I got a great view of her cleavage, and if she hadn't been trying to seduce one of my guys, I might have even appreciated it." *pouts* It's RIGHT THERE. She also seems to be attracted to her best friend in book one. I know bisexual harem would be a different trope but...

2) It does seem sexist to me if ALL of the protector/guardians and judges are dudes. Yes, I know this is working within a specific romance trope BUT really. There should be ladies and nonbinary people involved in judging the underworld, just saying.

3) It DOES try to be diverse with the dudes, at least. Although, Knox's background is incredibly unclear. The first book made me think he was from Spain or MAYBE like from the Abassid Empire or somewhere in India, but then this book makes it sound like he's possibly Polynesian? Question mark? I'm not sure the author was clear on his background.

4) The line: "it might be different if people still believed and made offerings to them" as I have said before and No Doubt will say again: people DO believe in the gods. People DO make sacrifices to the gods. Maybe fewer than before, but it Does Happen Oh My Gods.

HOWEVER I do still really like this series. The author does a great job of bringing in lesser know mythology, like the reference to Melinoe, which was quite nice.

ALSO Poppy is a kick-ass heroine. She gets wounded and passes out, but only because she is Trying So Hard to do things that are really quite beyond her. I love how caring she is and how she interacts with the ghosts. HONESTLY I probably have a bit of a crush on her, which Does Not Happy Often with fictional characters, which is why I'm so up-in-arms about her being hetero. Good on the author. That hasn't happened to me in quite some time. I'm a bit flustered and flabbergasted at this revelation, tbh.

ANYWAY. If you, like me, are into smexy reverse harems, check this series out. It's a quick read and has quite a fun cast of characters.

Daughter of Hades (Cerberus, #2) by Helen Scott Daughter of Hades(Cerberus Book 2) By:Helen Scott
Great Balance Between Drama & Se*y Times!!
Wow! I was sucked right into this story from page 1, & the pull kept me there clear through until the END. Damn, Helen Scott can write!!
"Daughter of Hades(Cerberus Book 2)" has a great balance between drama & Se*y times... You definitely don't feel cheated by what's offered inside this installment. You only feel eager for the next episode to begin...
I was gifted an ARC of Helen Scott's "Daughter of Hades(Cerberus Book 2)" via Booksprout. This is my 1st book by Helen, & I found her a talented writer with a gift for storytelling. I'm gladly recommending her book based upon its own merits. I'll look forward to more opportunities to read Helen's work in the future, especially this series as I'm excited to see what's happening next with these characters! All opinions expressed within this review are uniquely my own & freely given.
Until next time... Happy Reading!

Getting better and better!

This series is definitely picking up! I was annoyed in the first Installment “Persephone’s Daughter,” with Hunter’s attitude, mostly due to the way I feel RH “laws” work lol. I believe RH work best when ALL the men are devoted to the heroine. Yes, they could have lives and loves before her, but to hold onto those “loves” IMO negates the entire idea of RH, so to have Hunter, an important man in her life and a Hellhound completely devoted and still in love with Katherine, the prior Queen candidate just really irked me, and to keep him devoted to her seemed to bely the purpose of the story. Well Daughter of Hades picks up directly after the first book and has our intrepid group going off to find the judges. It’s fast paced and Poppy is finally beginning to come into her powers. This installment is exciting, fun and sexy, and Hunter is SLOWLY coming around. I’m still annoyed that he’s holding his “love” and affection “hostage” until he knows that Poppy is “stronger” than Katherine was...that’s a low play on his part, it also makes Hunter seem selfish and not 100% devoted to Poppy, which I dislike immensely. However, I cannot wait to see Poppy ascend to HER RIGHTFUL THRONE! I’m excited to read “Queen of the Underworld,” and hopefully give it a 5 star review when/if Poppy and ALL her men come together as they’re meant to by the fates decree.

So much happens in book two of the Cerberus series. There is more action, more guys, which means more sexy times!! And omg were those sexy times hot!!! We find out more about what her role is. Poppy and her group are on the hunt for her judges. Along the way she encounters many obstacles, and she fights her way through them to find her remaining men. One by one, Derek, Cass and Shadow join Knox, Emmett, Nolan and Hunter. Relationships build, some quicker than others. While a few grow deeper, some stay the same. Relationships grow exactly as they should, it is different for each one. However I will say that each one of them plays a role into what she needs, when she needs it the most. They are finding their dynamic. And with everything starting to piece together they are well on their way to claiming the Underworld. I don't want to give anything away, but I will say that everything is more in book 2. Which makes for a cannot put down until I finish read, which does leave on a cliffhanger. Yes it is a big one. But it just makes me that much more hyped for the third book. Overall, Daughter of Hades brings more action and romance to the second installment. So if you liked book one, you will love book two!

Well this book had a lot happening even it the spice ‘ and the sexual needs of the main character is the main focus at least in my opinion. I’m happy that it seems like Hunter is finally starting to open up more to the idea of being with Poppy, so I have a hope that he will finally choose to be with her during the last book. What I did not expect tho was that the judges she has to find also needs to bond with her the same way the hellhounds do, something that also actually made me a bit sad since I feel like it would be better if she was only bonded to the hellhounds sexually and that the bond with the judges didn’t need to be so intense. But we get to meet a new enemy and learn more about Poppy’s powers something that was nice and gave a bit more story to the whole thing. That being said in curious to see what happens in the last book

Oh What A Ride!!!!!!

Fantastic! I love the action happening throughout this book. It keeps you engaged and addictive to it. So many suspenseful moments that have you on the edge of your seat wondering what is going to happen. With so many questions running through your mind. Are they going to find all the judges? Are they going to get to the underworld? Poppy is growing more and more into herself. Her group is a fantastic group of guys and boy are strong and caring. The personalities of the characters are stunningly developed and felt throughout the story. This series is a must read and doesn’t disappoint.

Hot as Hades!

Finally Poppy is realizing that the path she is on with her hellhounds goes even further as they search for the judges. Things heat up to white hot proportions as Poppy bonds with her new protectors, and realizes the feelings she has runs deeper than lust. Poppy finds herself racing against time to find her judges and save them from their demise that she sees in her visions, while still hoping Hunter will come around. Great follow up book! Can’t wait for the conclusion.

Loved it! I read and finished the first book yesterday and had to read the second today. It didn't disappoint. I loved that the connection between the characters grew more in this book. Hunter is still frustrating as all hell, but there is finally some light being shed in his dark and brooding exterior. Still hoping things work out with them in the end though. The book is left at a cliffhanger. I am definitely excited for the next book. I can't wait to see how much more the characters grow and connect with one another.

Wow! I thought book 1, Daughter of Persephone was great but this one is so much more. More action. More men. And more steam. I'm a big fan of anything Mythology, especially Greek, and this new view of the Underworld and it's inhabitants, even though we haven't actually gotten there yet, is compelling and inventive. I can't stop turning the pages. Poppy is a little overwhelmed by all the new powers and new men as I think any woman would be. I love Knox so much, I think he's my new book boyfriend.

5/5

I plowed through this book in a matter of days. This picks up a few weeks after the end of the last book. Poppy and her hellhounds are off to search for her judges, they're also trying to prevent Hel from taking over the Underworld. Lots of action and lots of lovin' scenes. We see her bond with hounds and her find her judges. It was nice to see her and Hunter get closer. Her relationships with Emmett, Knox, and Nolan grow stronger. As she is handling this, she's also coming into her powers.

It's one hell of a ride, but one that I enjoyed.

Want to know the WORST name to give your heroine in a romance novel?
Poppy. *gags*
Listening to the hero(es) rasp that anti-sexy name during sexy times is such a turn-off. It sounds more like the nickname of a child, than the name of a grown woman/ queen. description
Unless, of course, she is the queen of the Trolls.

I absolutely love Helen Scott! Her RH always suck me right in! This is the second time I've read this series and it still captivates me! The cliffhanger on this book left me dying to start the last book in this series. Of course I'm at work and got a phone call that lasted almost an hour and wanted to die.
Now onto the next one. If you haven't read this series o highly recommend you do it's a great twist to trying to become the Queen of the Underworld! Also who doesn't love 4 sexy Hellhounds and 3 judges that were built like Gods!

Second book in a hot as hell series. This book gets extremely steamy as it is a reverse harem. This one has even more men being added. And boy are they all gorgeous and completely devoted to their queen. More enemies also show up as she must find her judges or lose her hold on the Underworld. I highly suggest reading book one first. This series is great for anyone that enjoys steam paranormal stories. Can’t get enough of this one.

I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of the book.
