Take Me. Tempt Me. Tame Me. Cailey Holm is definitely not a cat person-in fact, she's terrified of felines in all forms. Creating a sexy were-lion as the hero of her latest erotic romance was supposed to help her overcome that fear, but suddenly the tall, dangerous, domineering alpha-cat of her darkest dreams is standing in her living room-and then carrying her back to his world, demanding to explore her most erotic fantasies . . . Set free from Cailey's story, Lander Cornelius, King of the Werekin, now has a mind of his own-not to mention a magnificent, muscular body specially designed to make his mistress ache with desire. At first Lander's only motive is to protect his people by controlling Cailey's magic. But now, he intends to bring them both to the peak of ultimate ecstasy, showing her the intense pleasure of total submission, and unleashing a pure, animal passion that has no limits except their wildest imaginations . . .

Nothing exciting happens in Tawny Taylor's life, unless you count giving the cat a flea dip--a cat can make some fascinating sounds when immersed chin-deep in insecticide--or chasing after a houseful of upchucking kids during flu season. She doesn't travel the world or employ a staff of personal servants. She's not even built like a runway model. She's just your run-of-the-mill, pleasantly plump Detroit suburban mom and wife.

Not Tawny Taylor's erotic best, nor her worst. "Wicked Beast" is certainly hot with a plethora of sex scenes...but I didn't really care for, or feel caring from, either of the lead characters in this one.

Cailey is a frustrated writer whose writing buddies suggest each write a story about a heroine conquering each writer's most fearful phobia. For Cailey that would be cats. So when her story about a sexy were-lion suddenly comes to life, with her living the role of heroine, she's not too thrilled.

Lander has been released from the story and a seer told him if he can find the author, she can perform magic to aid he and his people. So what do you get when you take a Beast King whose words and wishes are never questioned and add in a modern-day heroine? Mayhem.

The story is hot, but the plot just didn't do it for me. My favorite book-character-comes-to-life probably has to be from author Kasey Michaels in her 'Maggie' series, so it's not the plot per se that doesn't work. It was more my inability to engage with either of the characters. Could have been a bad day or my mood, but it still wasn't enough to make me want to go back and try again.

There are few things author Cailey Holm likes less than cats. When her critique partner talks the feline-phobic Cailey into creating a were-lion hero as a way to overcome her fears, Cailey’s skeptical, but goes along with the idea. Then her creation, Lander Cornelius, King of the Werekin, not only shows up in her home, but kidnaps Cailey and takes her to his world. Thrust into a situation over which she has no control, Cailey is both aroused and fearful of her sensual captor. Lander swears he won’t harm her, that he only wishes to harness her powers to protect his people. Can Cailey risk being swept into an unwritten tale where danger lurks in unexpected places? Or will she submit to the erotic temptation Lander presents for a chance at the kind of love she’s only written about?

It’s a tempting fantasy, being swept away by the hero of a novel. Tawny Taylor takes this dream and gives it her own original twist in Wicked Beast. I loved the idea of an author being taken into a world she’s only begun to form. It enabled me to possess a certain amount of knowledge to become familiar with Lander and his world, while still leaving plenty of room for discovery and surprise.

I sincerely liked Cailey and Lander. Each had room for growth when the book began and Ms. Taylor wove their character development in beautifully. As a couple, the two generated enough heat to start a fire, fitting for a heroine who pens erotic romance, I think. The only thing I would wish for is a more developed resolution to the tale. The ending felt somewhat rushed and I was left with a few questions. Still, I enjoyed Wicked Beast and hope Ms. Taylor writes stories for Cailey’s critique partners, Mia and Lisa.

Somewhat erratic storyline, utilizes the conceit of characters being written juxtaposed with the author experiencing events as they are penned. Her mental and physical scars from a big cat attack when she was a child are challenged by a sensual king of the werekin who shapeshifts into a lion. Good premise and some sensual scenes but inconsistent action.

Average read - erotica, some BDSM. I never cared very much about the characters or the plot...
