Kate begins her cross-country trip expecting to start a new life in California. When she discovers a mysterious man in her trunk, she feels obligated to help him, even when it goes against all logic. In Hugh she finds everything she's been missing, and more. There's a secret Kate's been hiding- a special ability she's never told anyone about. Luckily, she stops to see her cousins- Jade and Pearl. Jade helps Kate discover the truth about Hugh, and herself... along with rescuing some shadowmen along the way.

We met Kate very briefly in Allure of Home, and again in Night Shift, so now we get her whole story. She meets Hugh in her trunk and instantly feels the connection, helping him against all logic. (Not sure I would do the same with a strange, injured man hiding in my car- but if he looked like Hugh, maybe I would?) Kate has more amazing powers- I love how, as a human, she saves three Elementals! We also got to catch up more with Jade and Talon, Reya and Tristan, and Reese and Dominic. Plus, some new bada** bad guys. Can't wait for the next in this series- is it March yet??
