Great change of pace from what one comes to expect from a title like the Master and the Secretary. I love the parallel stories here. Tess's grandmother learning to understand D/s in an era when it was barely known and Tess and her boyfriend Ryan as they develop their own relationship of Dominance and submission. The writing is excellent. All four characters are very well developed and I felt like I would know them. There is much more depth here than one often finds in erotic romance (or whatever the proper genre term is). And bringing the story full circle with the introduction of Mr. Stevenson toward the end was the icing on the cake.

THE MASTER AND THE SECRETARY is two love stories in one. In modern day, Tess is sorting through her recently deceased Grandmother's (Olivia)things and uncovers her journal from 1961.Tess starts reading through it and discovers that Olivia had a double life.Although married with 3 children , Olivia began an intense relationship with her boss Mr Stevenson. Mr Stevensons sexual tastes are very risqué and uncommon for that era. He takes Olivia on a journey of BDSM and she discovers more about herself. Meanwhile in the present, Tess realizes she too has the same tendencies as her gran, and starts a new relationship with Ryan. Through Olivias' detailed words, Tess and Ryan begin their own journey as dom and sub.
I read this book in one sitting. It was intense and amazing. I so loved the dual story. Olivia's diary entries were enthralling and it was a shame when they ended. Highly recommended

Imagine finding out that your grandmother not only procreated but liked it down and dirty. Would that totally change your point of view of your grandmother and would it let you start your own journey? That's what happened with Tess. She found some handwritten journals that her grandmother wrote detailing her submission to her boss, and got a little hot under the... collar.
This is an interesting story with an interesting premise. It goes back and forth between the past and the present, with the couple in each time doing their thing. There are definitely some interesting parallels to be drawn between Nana Olivia's story and Tess's story. I really enjoyed reading it.

A Review of The Master And The Secretary by Claire Thompson

I have to say, I had to take a few days to digest the story before I could write my review. I absolutely LOVED this story and how it is actually two books in one. When her grandmother passes, she is doing some cleaning at her Nana's house and finds some secret diaries that nobody knew anything about. We know very little about Tess at this point, which is where this turns into a book about Olivia and her boss. As we read along with Tess, the diaries tell a tale of BDSM in the early 1960s, before it was really known. Tess quickly learns that she is more like her Nana than she ever knew, since she has some of the same desires. I loved that Tess felt comfortable enough with her new relationship with Ryan to share the books with him and to learn that he is a Dom, willing to teach her about all the things she is curious about. I thoroughly enjoyed the stories, both Tess and Olivia's. I also agree with the fact that those in the field of BDSM are hard-wired with those wants and needs. This was a very powerful and moving book, you don't want to miss it.

What I loved about this book was the re-telling of Livvie and Mr Stevenson's story. Tess finds her grandmother's journals, and it recounts the tale of how her grandmother became her bosses submissive. It is a sweet, sensusous, and shocking tale, and you are right there with Tess, and then her boyfriend, Ryan, as the story unfolds. Honestly, that is a story in itself, and I would love to get all the details on how it played out after the journal ends in its' own book

A secret journal comes to life, when Tess is cleaning out the home of her recently deceased nana. Following a abrupt phone call, Tess dives into the world of Olivia, her grandmother and her submissive side. Along with Tess' new love interest and dominant lover, Ryan, readers are introduced to two generations who have found love and BDSM in a law office.
This is a fantastic read! I fell in love with all four main characters. Lovable, relatable, and funny each adds a certain spice to the story. What an interesting idea to incorporate journal entries as a bond between our main couple. As well as an extension to our past couple. Olivia and James had such a beautiful relationship and I was happy to hear the end of their story.
I would not change a thing about this read. It's another delicious sexy, well-written BDSM that I expect and love from CT.

Reading about BDSM thru the eyes of Claire Thompson is such an amazing experience. In my next life I will try it but I am thrilled to experience it thru the reading of her stories. I am captivated by the grace and dignity of submission thru her characters. Starting her journey of submission thru the reading of Olivia's journals is especially touching since she is Tess's grandmother. The bonding of Tess and Drew and the connection with James is amazing. I really enjoyed reading that this lifestyle doesn't stop just because you get older. It only seems to get better. I loved all parts of this story. I think this is one of my all time favorites as it is all loving and no humiliation in it.

Two journeys . Tess has lost her grandma Olivia , While she cleaning out the attic she finds a lock box . When she breaks it open the are her grandmother journals . The journals are Olivia journey with Mr. Stevenson back in 1961 . As Tess reads she decides to share with her boyfriend Ryan and wants o do a journey of her own. This book had two tales one in the past and one in the future . I enjoyed read both stories . You could see the connection the journals had on Tess and Ryan and help their journey towards a Dom and submissive relationship. I voluntarily read an arc of this book for an honest review .

This is a unique love story as written in the journals of a young woman's grandmother. The journals detail her grandmother's submissive journey. Sharing the journals with Ryan, her coworker and boyfriend gives Tess the courage to explore her own deeply buried submissive feelings. Ryan, has long yearned to find the one woman he can build a D/s relationship with and share his life and his love. Tess is that woman.
I enjoyed this book immensely. The characters are wonderfully written and genuinely likeable. The path to Tess and her Nana's submission while strikingly similar diverge in circumstance. Excellent read.

I enjoy Claire Thompson's work and she always adds the steam. This one isn't my favourite personally but that could be more to do with my preference for the modern day and this book is a combination of both modern day tale and some diary entries from the 1960's. Claire has done well to mix Olivia and Tess's exploration and discovery of BDSM and James and Ryan as the Dominant's who guide them.
Slightly different than some of Claire's other work but still certainly worth reading. This one is well written as always, it's a simple personal preference that doesn't make this one my favourite of Claire's catalogue.

Beautiful, well-written story about the parallel lives of two couples, fifty years apart. Tess finds her recently deceased grandmother Olivia's journals, chronicling Olivia's D/s relationship with her boss, Mr Stevenson. These very honest diary entries give Tess and her new bf Ryan the impetus to begin their own D/s journey. I enjoyed Tess getting to know her grandmother as a whole person, and the events that occur later in the book to bring the story full circle. I'd love to know Mr Stevenson's POV. That last journal entry had me hooked! Solid read by the exceptional Ms Thompson.

What a fantastic story from one of my favorites, Claire Thompson! Tess finds hidden diaries her late grandmother Olivia left and was shocked to learn of her secrets. Tess has a few secret desires of her own. I love how the story flowed seamlessly between past and present, how both relationships, James & Olivia’s and Ryan & Tess’s developed and grew. The connection between the 2 couples was undeniable. The second book in the Finding Master Right Series was better than the first...and I loved the first. Can’t wait for the next one ☝️.

A fun BDSM story. It was great finding out that Tess’s grandmother was involved in a BDSM relationship with her boss. I enjoyed how Tess and Ryan relationship developed alongside the reading of her grandmother’s journal. It was almost like getting two stories in one. So many times we think our generation created kinky sex and this story goes to show we are definitely not the first to enjoy dominance and submission. This is a much lighter look at BDSM than Ms. Claire’s usual stories. I would recommend this book to everyone who enjoys a well written BDSM story.

This is an amazing and beautiful story about the journey of being a submissive. It's a dual story about a woman, Tess, and her grandmother, Olivia, after finding her grandmother's journals while cleaning out the house after her grandmother passed. Claire has written this book with beautiful and touching emotions that you lose yourself in the book and don't want to put it down.

This is a very different book from Claire Thompson, it is almost whimsical in its approach to BDSM and was an easy read with a satisfying ending. Although some questions remain about what happened between James and Olivia after she finished writing her journals, perhaps it is not necessary to know as Tess and Ryan's journey while mirroring that of Olivia and James was so much more because they were free to explore and fulfill their desires.
All in all a very pleasant read.

I enjoyed this original and different take on a romantic story. It was interesting watching the two main characters grow and develop their relationship further through exploration whilst reading about the experiences of a grandparent.
The book was really well written, with likeable characters. It draw you in, and was enjoyable to read. As with most of this authors work, it had a great storyline, with just enough steamy scenes to balance it without making it all about that.

What a sensual read. Loved that it took place in the 60's (such a different time from today). Also loved that it was told from the point of view of someone reading a journal. The whole situation would be totally taboo/wrong by today's office standards but it was written so well. It also explores the conflicting emotions of not only accepting the situation but also enjoying it. I could not help but enjoy this book.

Wonderfully written erotic story. I love the way you get the 2 stories in one! One set back in 1961 and one current day - it's a really different way of presenting the dom/sub elements. I really enjoyed the way the past has an effect in the present and the way they meet at the end of the story.

This is 2 stories in one. Claire Thompson has successfully merged the story of Tess a young woman h has just lost her beloved grandmother and Tess's own life. Nothing of what she reads when she finds her grandmother's hidden diaries was what she perceived. The awakening of BDSM in both women is subtle yet very effective.

This was a well written fantastic read.I just loved this book it is almost like you get two books in one I just loved Tess she was a wonderful character and her and Ryan were just so hot together I really liked that she shared her Grans diaries with him,This was a super read and I would recommend it a great addition to the series.

I am volunteering to leave a review of this ARC book. Claire has fast become, my favorite author in this genre! What an interesting way to look at the BDSM life in two different eras. Very unique. Not very dark, which some readers may appreciate. Two wonderful love stories.

A wonderful story within a story accompanied by yet another story. What fun! Tess discovers another side of her recently deceased Nana within the pages of a series of secret notebooks. A kinship feeling resonates within her as she reads about the relationship between Olivia and her Boss. Ryan, her colleague and boyfriend, is also fascinated with the journals and had been interested in the lifestyle for some time. Very well thought out well written content merging past and present into a cohesive and entertaining read. Advance copy, voluntarily reviewed.

We follow both Olivia and Tess’s way into understanding submissive. A well written story that I couldn’t put down. I just had to know more. It left a good feeling all over.
