Honestly, yeah, I suspected that something was wrong with Melody and maybe Rose was a reincarnation of her in book two, but after finding the fake Melody and then finding wedding rings in a hidden cupboard behind a painting Rose gets thrown into a flashback of her past life. Of Melody and Kane meeting and falling in love. Of them proposing and accepting. Of Melody being murdered by fire. Of her being reborn as Rose. it's obviously not as quick as all that and the sequence takes up a large chunk of the book, but it's well worth it. It's honestly beautiful. When Rose comes to she has the full memories of both her selves and convinced Kane, proposes that they get married right away, and in order to save herself from those that want her dead and to never be separated from Kane again she asks to be turned vampire. Tommie is understandably gutted, but still supportive after Rose talks to her. The climax is amazing and the ending is both happy and somber. I really hope we do get a Tommie story. That girl deserves a great love.

The end of Bridget Essex's epic Sullivan Vampires trilogy was everything I hoped for. The atmosphere of these books is, aside from the romance itself, my favorite part. The Sullivan Hotel has such an air of suspense, of mystery, and it fits the story so well. The climax of the plot involving the threat to Rose's life was exciting (and unexpected) but it wasn't as fulfilling to me as the romance side of the plot was. Rose and Kane finally got their happily ever after, and it was as swoon-worthy as I hoped. Also, the author's afterward promised a happy ending for Tommie, too, and heaven knows I'm a total Tommie fangirl. This series is like none other, and I'm so glad I read it.

⭐️⭐️⭐️ 3.5 Stars Rounded Down ⭐️⭐️⭐️

This was by far the best of the three. Although I still very much disliked how rushed the whole story felt, and the fact that the whole plot of all three book happened over only the span of a week, this book was much more enjoyable. I just feel like it wouldn’t have been unreasonable to make the conference last for more than a week to try to gain some semblance of a semi-realistic relationship, even if they were soulmates.

I did enjoy getting to see the whole love story of Kane and Melody through the flashbacks and I think that helped to solidify both of those characters a bit better. The whole series just felt like it was rushed, and I think it would have been much more enjoyable had the author put in the time to give the characters some more depth and interaction. Overall a very easy and mostly enjoyable read.

A wonderful conclusion!

A story that is packed with intrigue, suspense and great romance. This one is definitely the winner in this series and the only negative I can say about it is that there is an end to the story. I totally loved the travel back in time and the plot is well developed. The characters are fantastic. I love the Sullivan family and I would love to see Tommie finding her soul mate and for Bran, that she finds her forever love. I really hope that we see them again in future books. I don't think anyone will be disappointed by this conclusion. I certainly will read this series again.

The conclusion

My initial review of this series still stands. However, Essex did finish the series giving the readers closure. Points for that. Also, the journey into the "past" for Rose was interesting to read. I enjoyed that short break in the story. That part was written very well and is my favorite part of the entire series. I can't honestly say I recommend it 100% because there are parts of the writing that need editing, and some of the actions of the characters just don't make sense. Overall, not my favorite series by the author, however, the idea is good.

Truly enjoyable

I enjoy reading about the Sullivan's but more importantly the letter to your readers touched me. As someone who has lived with depression I understand how debilitating it can be. But reading the love letter to your readers made me feel like I am not alone in the world. Thank you.

I enjoyed the first six volumes of this series in same way I enjoy potato crisps: I know they're crap, but eh, who cares. I read enough non-potato-crisp lit to justify a binge every now and then. Solid three stars for the first volume, silly vampy mysterious love story. Things are dragging and plot pinpricks are steadily becoming plotholes by volume two, but I'm still reasonably invested -- it'll all be answered in the last volume for sure! Given the way people were raving, I was pretty sure all the loose ends would be tied up and it would be as satisfying as the first six vols rounded up. Delicious, nutrition-free comforting wlw garbage. We all need some of that now and then.

Oh dear.

Do you know how bad a conclusion to an already ordinary story has to be before it makes me regret even picking up the decent bits? This bad.

Kane and Rose fell in mysterious, weird, instalove that was obviously going to eventually make sense with a past-life reveal or something like that. Called it. But in that past life?

ALSO INSTALOVE. No build up. Nothing! Why? Just 'cause. The romantic-lit equivalent of a shrug, basically. Listen, as a wlw myself, I've heard all the U-haul jokes, but this was beyond unbelievable. Same with Tommie's crush on Melody/Rose (let me just be a picky bitch for a minute and point out that "Melody" is not a good name for someone born in 1860ish America -- the name didn't start gaining real traction until the early 20th century) -- simple instalove, if not made worse, because in previous books we're sort of hinted that Tommie and Melody at least had a sort of complicated relationship where they were friends but Melody refused to cross the line? SO SHOW US. There was absolutely no evidence of that whatsoever. Like, even a single scene where Melody brushes Tommie off at some point would have been nice, but nope. Essex has always had intense trouble with "show, don't tell" in her writing and holy shit does that come in spades in this one.

(Also, while I'm being a picky bitch? Wild Woodbine cigarettes were never sold in America, especially not around the 1890s. I don't know if we're supposed to assume Kane is super mysterious and exotic and thus getting them imported, but if that's the case...why Woodies, of all things?!)

Spelling and tense mistakes besides; I'm wondering if Essex or her editor (should such a person exist) kept a timeline of what happened in this story...or at least a handful of notes. The errors and plotholes are just bizarre. The list thereof:

* Rose's hair goes from "thin" and "auburn" in the first book to "long and red" in the last...just like non-Melody's. And yet nobody mentioned this even once? Nobody went "wow, you two kinda look similar"?
* Melody's gloves appear and disappear twice in her flashback introduction. TWICE.
* The "Widowmaker" staircase is set up as a Chekov's Gun, and then just...forgotten.
* We NEVER find out what Mags' problem with Rose is. I thought Mags would be revealed to be Magdalena in disguise or something (the names, ffs), but...nope. Just...forgotten? I guess?
* The "no, that's not Rose" scene with Magdalena is NEVER EXPLAINED.
* We aren't really given a decent reason as to why Magdalena hates Kane's guts so specifically, apart from the yay human/nay human argument, which just...doesn't work. We're told Magdalena has immense power over other vamps, apparently, but I don't buy it -- SHOW. DO NOT. TELL.
* We are given no information about who the non-Melody shapeshifter is or is supposed to be, or who Darcy is to said person. Or how Magdalena would know who Darcy even was/is to Kane. Or WHY Darcy, ffs!
* Generally if a person is burned to death, their clothes will burn with them. Melody's wedding dress surviving without a singe while Melody herself did not is ridiculous.
* We were given NO HINTS regarding the rings or the secret spot behind the painting in Bran's room whatsoever throughout the first six of the books. All the time wasted on the spooky scary staircase (or, God forbid, the fourteen thousand descriptive passages about Kane's eyes and "mane") could have been somehow been given to the odd feeling the painting gives Rose, surely.
* Why were there seven Sullivan 'sisters'? Jane and...I've literally forgotten the name of the one with the Elvis hair's name...could be rolled into one character, or even merged with Dolly, and it would have saved time and tightened the narrative considerably.
* It's hinted that the Sullivan vampires like their ladies human in the earlier books, so why was there no friction when it came time to turn Rose into a vamp, then? Not even a little maudlin sentimentality, like Kane being wistful about how Rose will smell different as a vamp, or something?
* vamp lore (and law, essentially) is shovelled into the tail end of Vol 7 with no explanation or foreshadowing. You'd think there'd be plenty of chance to explore this over seven volumes.

Basically, volume 7 seemed to exist as a very flimsy attempt at tying up the "mysteries" pinned onto three rather same-y sex scenes.

There's a glut of other problems and wtf moments but I'm already exhausted writing this as it is. I'm just...so annoyed. Like I said, volume 7 ruined any good feelings I had about the previous six volumes, and I was willing to be forgiving -- I don't necessarily want my romance to be literature, I just want it to be good trashy fun. It wasn't good, and it wasn't fun. It certainly could have been, but it wasn't. This series was touted as "Twilight for women who love women", but that isn't true. Because it's not as good as Twilight. There. I said it.

Wickedly delightful!

The entire Sullivan Series deserves 5 stars! I was completely drawn in by Books 1 and 2. By the time I started 3 I was reading deep into the wee hours of the morning. I couldn't put it down! Hopefully and fingers crossed that we'll find another tale or two of the Sullivan Clan. I strongly recommend this series or any other book Bridget has written! You won't be disappointed.

Amazing!

This well written tale is the conclusion of the "Sullivan Vampires" trilogy. A mortal enemy from long ago threatens to exact revenge on Kane by destroying Rose, just like they destroyed Kane's first love, Melody. To find out if love is eternal, be sure to add this book to your must-read list.

Book 7
Such a twist to this storyline. Excellent way to go with this. I absolutely love this romance.
Just when I thought it couldn’t get any better.
This was written so very well. It’s a contemporary yet classic romance. I’m so glad they got their happily ever after. Very enjoyable series. Excellent narration.

By the way I liked the chemistry between Kane & Rose. Also I like to read a story about Tommie as well. Waiting for Tommie's story.
