Claire Matthews is carrying the child of Cheyenne half-breed, Two Wolves, who promised in marriage to live his life in the white world under the name his white mother gave him – Peter James Matthews. Peter is educated and can conduct himself as white; however, Claire understands that deep in his heart, her husband is very Indian. In the prequel to this story (CAPTURE MY HEART), it was the “Indian” Two Wolves, a scout for the U. S. Army, who rescued Claire from a fate worse than death and who saved her life more than once in a flight from those who would harm them. Now, as a married couple running a supply business near Fort Collins, Colorado, a restless hatred from Colorado citizens and the Colorado Militia toward the Cheyenne threatens to tear Peter and Claire apart. Peter adores and respects Claire’s strength in standing up for the man she loves against those who would condemn her for loving an Indian. He has promised Claire to always be by her side and help her run their business … until the United States Army asks him to accept another scouting mission. Because he thinks it will help the Cheyenne, Peter agrees, but events that follow challenge his promises to Claire. When Peter comes across the aftermath of the horrible Sand Creek Massacre committed by the Colorado Militia and their leader, Colonel John Chivington, his Cheyenne blood rises to the surface, and he is once again Two Wolves, a warrior who wants revenge. Will Two Wolves’s rage be stronger than his love for Claire and their unborn child? Only true love can hold these two together against a land torn by the changes of a growing West. Power, passion, true history and romance all make this story another winner for “The Queen of Western Romance,” Rosanne Bittner.
I am a USA-TODAY best-selling author with 41 years, 76 books, and numerous writing awards behind me. My major genre is historical romance. I have always written for standard publishers but am now writing strictly for Amazon so I have more freedom to write real history. My most recent publication is SHADOW TRAIL, the 6th book in my Outlaw Hearts series. I also wrote and published my first full-length contemporary story, DANCING BENEATH YOU, in September 2022, a romance involving mystery and a depiction of reservation life in the Badlands of South Dakota. My best sellers are my SAVAGE DESTINY series (7 books) and my OUTLAW HEARTS series. See my website (www.rosannebittner.com) for details on all my books - most available for Kindle and in print. I am known for great love stories filled with real history and high emotion. I have also written many Native American stories, all based on real history.
I love American history. For those of you who have not yet read my books, my stories are generally set in the American West of the 1800s and feature vividly described, historically accurate settings that span the US from Missouri to California, from Canada to Mexico. Many of my books portray the poignant history of our Native Americans, and though the characters are my own, I use real historical locations and events in all my novels. I have also written about the French & Indian wars, American Revolution, the War of 1812, the war with Mexico (the Alamo), and the Civil War.
National magazine ROMANTIC TIMES has called me the "Queen of Western Romance" and an "emotional powerhouse." My husband and I have traveled the west for nearly 40 years and I have visited just about every location mentioned in my books.

Once again the Great Queen of the Western Historical Romance Rosanne Bittner gives her readers a very vivid History lesson. Mrs Bittner has a gift pulling her readers into a book and one feels as if she/he are actually standing there with the characters experiencing the same emotions and feelings they are. I literally felt as if I had been at Sand Creek by the time I finished this book. My heart was broken and crying right along with Two Wolves for the atrocities he saw at Sand Creek. Oh how my own heart ached for Claire desperately loving a man from two worlds and her determination to wait on him. I dearly loved this continuation of Claire and Two Wolves story. I would most certainly love to see a third book in the future as Claire and Two Wolves go on with little Okohm and make a life in the changing West. Well done once again Rosanne Bittner A Warrior’s Promise was all I hoped and more!!!
Last summer my husband and I visited Sand Creek Massacre site in eastern Colorado. My heart has always bled just knowing how Colonial John Chivington along with the Colorado Militia rode in and massacred Black Kettle’s camp and his peaceful Cheyenne, mostly women and children. A Warriors Promise was an exceptional book detailing the horror and heartache that happened at Sand Creek and the months that followed. Rosanne Bittner has always delivered books that tell true accounts of our Native American’s and their plight in our American History. A Warriors Promise, the sequel to Capture My Heart continues the story of Claire and Two Wolves, their courage to live one way of life, while protecting another. A love story which will grab the readers heartstrings. My hearts breaks for what actually happened at Sand Creek, such a sad senseless act against the peaceful Cheyenne. Ms. Bittner truly captured the heinous massacre and the atrocities that followed. A phenomenal heartfelt book about the beautiful Southern Cheyenne People, no one could protect. Rosanne Bittner has penned another extraordinary book about The Cheyenne, one which equally rivals her epic Savage Destiny Series. Tonya Lucas 3/20/2018
I need to revisit all the historical places like Sand Creek. I traveled to all the best places as a kid and do not remember much about them. A Warrior's Promise is an awesome read that really brings the atrocities like the massacre at Sand Creek and the treatment of Indians that Americans committed into the story of Claire and Peter Matthews.
The book is the Sequel to Capture My Heart where the U.S. Army scout, Peter James Matthews had saved Claire Matthews from an attack on her supply wagon train. Claire and Peter, otherwise known as Two Wolves are now married and running a supply store outside Fort Collins, Colorado. Peter has vowed to live in the white mans world, stay by Claire's side and to take care of Claire, who is now expecting his child. This vow is threatened when Peter is asked to go on another scouting mission for the U.S. Army. The Cheyenne and other Indian tribes are getting restless and angry by treaties being broken, whites doing raids and making it appear indians committed the raids and by Colonel John Chivington and the Colorado Militia that are out to kill all Indians. Chivington believes all indians should be eliminated including woman and children. Chivington's view is that females just bring more indians into the world and boys just grow up to be warriors so they all should be killed. It doesn't matter to Chivington that peaceful indians are supposed to be left alone and he has the Colorado govenor on his side of the isdues. Two Wolves accepts the scouting mission thinking he can help bring about peace. He is struggling with his own anger to get revenge for his Cheyenne people but he also wants to keep his vows to the woman he loves and his unborn child. When he comes across the remains of the Indian village at Sand Creek after Chivington and the Colorado Militia have raided he wants to have revenge for his people more than ever. He will get home to Claire but he doesn't believe it will be anytime soon and he fears he will lose Claire's love by not keeping his vow of getting home to her quickly. He needs to help his people without killing whites or he will be wanted for murder and be court marshalled for desertion by the army. He would be hanged.
Claire can't help to feel that when Peter leaves home that he is in his full Two Wolves persona and that she is never going to see him again. She is afraid he'll either be killed or he'll end up wanting to stay with his Cheyenne people. Her fears are only magnified when word of what really happened at Sand Creek begins to get back to Fort Collins. Days and weeks just keep going by with no word about Peter.
Another great read by Bittner that just left me wanting more and left me broken hearted for the indians. The story just can't end here. There is so much more we need to know about Claire, Peter, their baby and all the characters in this story.
Having read the first book, I could hardly wait to read this story. It was trying times for the Indians as they were pursued, moved to reservations and killed in battle. On the opposing side, the military fought, ranchers were terrorised and promises were broken. I appreciate all the research this author did to bring facts into the fictional lives of the characters. I loved this book.
To love a story you have to crawl into it and live along with the characters. This is what happens anytime I read one of Rosanne's books. What an amazing book. Thank you Rosanne for another wonderful book.
