A struggling artist tries to get his recycled mixed-media art pieces displayed at a local art gallery now run by the owner’s daughter who has zero appreciation for his folk art.
You are reading ASK YOU LATER, the prequel to five of USA Today bestselling author Jan Thompson’s collections of romances and love stories set in the same story world: Savannah Sweethearts, Vacation Sweethearts, Protector Sweethearts, Seaside Chapel, and Seaside Cottages.
Sophie’s Sentiments… A freelance technical writer who writes obscure user guides that nobody reads and engineering manuals for little-used heavy machinery, Sophie Kowalski’s career is filled with black ink on white paper, legalese and technical stuff that few people care about—except for proofreaders and publishers.
When her dad has a nasty fall outside his art gallery and breaks his leg in several places, Sophie is forced to run Simon’s Gallery for a couple of months while Dad recovers from his unfortunate accident.
The first thing Sophie does is remove what she considers “junk art” in the art gallery and cancel several exhibitions by lesser-known artists, replacing them with more famous works that showcase clean lines and minimalism…
Leon’s Legacy… A poor and struggling mixed-media local artist, Leonardo “Leon” Watts thinks he has finally turned a corner in his career when Simon Kowalski of the reputable Simon’s Gallery on River Street decides to display his recycled sculptures that showcase everyday life.
That is, before Simon tumbles on the cobblestones, ends up in the hospital, and takes two months off to recover. Standing in Leon’s way is Simon’s daughter, Sophie, now running the gallery however she wants and in whichever way she pleases.
She says that Leon’s displays are “garbage” and shouldn’t see the light of day. Well, technically, he only uses discarded materials he finds in junkyards and recycling centers…
Still, who is she to judge his art?
When Leon decides to educate that unimaginative Sophie on the value of his brand of everyman artwork, he gets more than he is prepared to handle, as his heart begins to express itself in unexpected ways…
If you enjoy ASK YOU LATER, you might enjoy the rest of the Savannah Sweethearts romances set in the beach town of Tybee Island and in the coastal city of Savannah, two of the most romantic coastal towns in the world.

I read this book a while back and forgot to write a review. This story is a prequel to a collection of series by Jan Thompson. It really is cute, fun, quirky, and very delightful. Sophie just wants to help her father’s art gallery to stay afloat while he’s recovering from a fall, and Leon wants to display his unique artwork. Can the two come to an agreement before they drive each other crazy? Jan Thompson brings stories to life that will also touch your heart. Her story flows with great dialogue and wonderful word pictures of places, people, and relationships. This book is based in Savannah, Georgia which is the setting for her other books. The whole series surrounds a small community of people who interconnect in many ways. Mostly, they are all part of a church that is seeking to grow and enrich others. I totally enjoyed getting to know these characters and look forward to reading all the other books in this series. I think Jan Thompson will be a fun author to follow and continue to read. I enjoyed this story and I hope you will too. This story just might give you a longing to travel to Savannah and get a feel for the colorful life there.
I LOVED THIS BOOK!! Although I wrinkled my nose at Leon's "art", I slapped myself because beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Leon and his mom struggled to survive when his dad left when he was two years old. Once he was a man, his mom contracted cancer and she was given a two per cent chance to live so she went to swim with the fish to spare her son. Poor Leon lost himself in world travels before he finally settled in one place. I loved that Leon renewed the faith that he had lost. I loved that Sophie was still close to her dad as her mom had died giving birth to her. and he had broken his leg falling on the cobblestones in front of his art gallery it was Sophie who put her manual writing position to manage the gallery.
3 stars I received a free copy of Savannah Sweethearts book 0: Ask You Later by Jan Thompson and this review was given freely. Ask You Later is a Savannah Sweethearts Prequel/ Prelude to Savannah Sweethearts but also the cornerstone for Vacation Sweethearts, Protector Sweethearts, Seaside Chapel, and Seaside Cottages. A full length complex Christian romance featuring the Simon Art Gallery owner's daughter Sophie and artist Leonardo who are attracted to each other but are opposite in every way other than their faith in God. This novella has a good plot but is slow somewhat repetitive.
Two opposites in most ways, but their hearts call each other. She thinks his art is garbage and refuses to honor her father's contract with Leon. Leon thinks she is small minded as far as his art is considered, but he finds Sophie calling to his heart and intriguing his mind. Sophie tries to help Leon out, but his bills are due and he has no money. Leon tries to show Sophie what she is missing and gets her to sit for a portrait. She hates that too, and the manager of the art studio puts it up on the wall beside the front door and does a video which goes viral. Painting sold, and Leon has a new set of artwork commissioned. Yeah for the bills, but things are getting serious with Sophie. Leon does the runner when things get really serious and his past catches up with him spiraling him into depression with emotions he doesn't know how to handle. Although, both are Christians and try to live out their faith, sometimes emotions are hard to handle. It's when we recognize our emotions and define them that we can face what they mean and how to face our past for our future.
This is a prequel so keep that in mind when you are reading it . I love how faith is always in this authors books. Sophie has to run her father's art gallery while he is down. Leon is an artist and she doesn't like his art. Her father wanted it in the gallery and she does not want it there in fact she called it garbage. . They both must learn to trust God. Can they learn to trust God and to love each other? Grab the book and find out. I receive complimentary books for review from publishers, publicists, and/or authors. I’ve read several of Ms Thompson’s books and have enjoyed all of them. This one was no different. I especially like how the author weaves Scripture into the story so naturally. It is a good reminder to us all that our faith and God’s word should be our guide throughout all our life experiences. The characters are described so well that they become real to you and as the same characters appear across the different books, you start to view them as friends.
What fun having two opposites attracted to each other, and one of them has a blunt way of communicating! I enjoyed this prequel, after having read two of the following books, it filled in with an interesting backstory. Faith-filled, it makes me want to grow in my faith and trust in God.
An excellent journey for several in this book. Each one was intriguing and colorful. Some were friends, some relatives and others were the closest of all. Each had to find their way tonGod. Everyone’s journey was different. All had baggage and forgiveness was the key to really being able to live happily
Sophie takes over as manager of her father's art gallery when he brakes his leg. Leon brings his art to be shown at the gallery and Sophie HATES his art. It seems like they have nothing in common but when they keep getting thrown together and meet at church, they both finding healing from their past and hope in Christ for their futures.
I liked this sweet Christian romance between Sophie and Leon in Savannah, Georgia. I highly recommend this for readers who want a clean romance laced with a spiritual message throughout. I loved the characters and how they got together. This is a great start to a new series. This is my voluntary and honest review.
Prequel to several of her series. Love of two that are opposites, but are they really. When she running an art galley till her father can again and he is an artist. When she changes displays, and calls his work ‘garbage’ how can Love even think of growing between them .Cute store.
I really liked this book. Sophie thought Leon's art was garbage, but when she looked at the person, she saw something beautiful. I like how Sophie and Leon hid God's word in their hearts and showed us how to apply it to our lives. Very well done!
I liked this one but Sophie irritated me sometimes. She was so mean in regards to his art, calling it trash, like, that's not necessary. Leon was sweet but still pushed people away. When he came back, I felt so happy for her, they were so good together
This was a good story, good characters and plot. The Christian theme was well done, and I liked the Scriptures throughout the book. However, the editing left something to be desired; many errors in the book.
Not a bad book just didn’t really grab my attention super well. I read the whole thing and didn’t skip any sections so that’s a plus but I guess I like more of the type that will suck you in to the story and not let go.
A sweet story filled with love, faith, and more. I enjoyed this one and look forward to reading more by this author. I received a complimentary copy of the book. No review was required.
