Wizards are being murdered. Picked off and torn to shreds. It’s up to a hexed detective to crack the case.

Detective Rita Hobbes has been cursed; erased from everyday reality and cast adrift in a world of magic and monsters. To the workaday world, Rita is a forgotten memory, which raises the question, what will she do with the rest of her life now?

It’s only when the savaged body of a dead wizard is wheeled into the local morgue that Rita gets the answer to her question. She’s going to do what she always does. She’s going to be a detective.

The Council of Wizards is terrified, innocent people are being transformed into monstrous beasts, and all clues point to a mysterious visitor with a bad habit of sinking her teeth into people.

A werewolf with a century-long grudge is stalking the streets of Blackpool, a werewolf with magic so powerful she can affect the phases of the night sky. Can Rita bring the werewolf to justice and put an end to her vengeance, or will every night from this day forward be a fatal moon?

Read Fatal Moon and enter a magical, page-turning urban fantasy you cannot put down. Like Neil Gaiman? Then you’ll love Fatal Moon.

Hold on to your hats!

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Holy nuts, this tale is nonstop action and full of surprises!

Rita, Carlisle, and friends new and old continue the battle against the Angel while facing new and unforeseen foes. Every page unfolds a new plot twist or dilemma while maintaining the humour one expects in a trip to the Uncanny. This thrilling installment has left me impatiently waiting and fully pining for the next one!

A fabulous second book in the Hexed Detective series. I adore Rita and couldn't put down this next part of her fantastic story. How does an invisible, forgotten detective solve horrendous paranormal crimes in Blackpool? Read and devour her incredible rollercoaster ride. 😁

I got it as an ARC proofreader; I loved it. Exciting, fast paced horror story with a healthy dose of humorous banter and great world-building. Be sure to read 'Hexed Detective' first, then read 'Fatal Moon'. It picks up right where 'Hexed Detective' leaves off, with Dan Waterson dead and a ghost, and Rita still, as far as the ordinary world is concerned, doesn't exist. Carlisle still wants his Artefact back from Rita. The Fallen Angel of Blackpool is still plotting its escape. Rita discovers the hex hadn’t just made people forget about her, it had changed the whole fabric of reality: made it as though she had never even existed. Enter Magda. Flashback to Hungary, 1900 for Magda's story and how she became a hunter. Interlude with Carlisle. Then to 1943 and Magda"s miraculous escape. Interlude with Rita, Jane Bowen and Ellie Mason, victims of the Magician who served the Angel. On to 2006 briefly, then to the present, to tie up the interludes and flashbacks. A magician has been brutally murdered, torn apart. Magda seducess Ben Turner, to his immediate delight, but eventual dismay. In Blackpool, something savage, something evil, is killing people, especially magicians. Back to 2012 for more of Magda's background. Back in the present, Rita briefly experiences what it's like to become a werewolf. Meanwhile, Carlisle visits the City of the Dead, a terrifying experience, to bring back the 'thing' that can kill an Angel. Magda and Rita finally meet. Rita has to go to an Uncanny Exorcist as a result. A little later she meets up with Waterson's ghost and things get quite deadly serious. Carlisle picks an opportune time to reappear. Carlisle's best laid plan to kill the Angel goes a-gley. Meanwhile, Rita, Waterson and Magda have their final showdown at Blackpool Tower. And what becomes of Carlisle?

Disclaimer: I was provided a copy of this book, free of charge, in exchange for an honest review.

Rita's journeys through the uncanny underworld of Blackpool, seeking an end to her Hex, continues but now there's someone killing the wizards of the city.

While Carlisle continues to seek a way to deal with the angel sleeping beneath the sea, Rita is drawn into the machinations of a powerful werewolf seeking the blood of Wizards and finds an unlikely ally in a newly turned accountant seeking an end to his own curse.

But as the Full Moons start to occur more rapidly, and Carlisle's cursed axe is having an unforeseen side effect when used on Werewolves, time is running out and the Uncanny world's Wizarding populace faces annihilation.

Once again I find myself drawn into the Uncanny Kingdom and I admit that this one has a lot more going for it that Hexed Detective and the introduction of so many new central characters really does work in its favour.

I'm pleased to say that, for the most part, Millie Jones' narration is fantastic throughout and the larger cast is easily recognisable and Rita's personality really shines through in this part, especially when she is conversing with Dan.

With the great new cast members, some fantastic set pieces and a thrilling ending, my return to Blackpool has been a thoroughly enjoyable one.

I’ve loved every single “Uncanny Kingdom” novel whether by MV (Matthew) Stott or his partner in crime David Bussell. Whenever I see that name I just know that the book contents will be superb. No surprise then that I’ve loved the newest series set in this universe, MV Stott‘s Hexed Detective, of which Fatal Moon is an outstanding book 2. This is a wonderful urban fantasy tale that is easily worth five stars. It had just what I wanted, was well written, with excellent world building and a great plot, it’s lead “hexed detective” Rita Hobbes is just the sort of complex kick-a** heroine I love. She puts lesser makes like Dresden (who I’ve always loved) to shame. At the same time it’s cast of supporting characters are simply superb. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises - the book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read., with the caveat that while you could read this standalone you’re much better starting off from book 1 of the series.

Bottom line: this book is easy to highly recommend.

What an exciting second book in the Hexed Detective series this was. Rita is still Hexed, still pissed off, still keeping Carlisle under her thumb and definitely still detecting as hard as she can while being unseen by muggles. The fight against the Angel continues but a more imminent threat is causing mayhem in Blackpool and Rita has to both protect and detect, coming to terms with how far she may have to go to solve this problem.
I loved this book even more than the first book. Rita is a delight to keep company with and her friends keep me smiling. Carlisle meets an old friend and that encounter was worth the price of the book alone! Formby is also very good value for money and the introduction of Ben certainly livened up Rita's life and made my enjoyment of the book even greater. Long may this series continue. Do yourself a favour and read the first book (if you haven't already) before this. Better yet, read all the Uncanny Kingdom books.

*spoilers* I am a fan of The uncanny series, I've read most of them and really enjoy the characters and the world building. This book confused me...Carlisle. In the other books he's been a terror, someone who is mercurial in his cruelty, someone whose name isn't mentioned for fear he'll show up. But at the end of this book he's being hugged by Rita? I like this Carlisle a lot better but it does not jive at all with the previous character. And that's frustrating because one of the best parts of this series is the crossover to the other books. But if things aren't going to remain the same then what's the point? Also as a side note this book could have used a really good edit, just a lot of grammatical mistakes. Overall the story was good and the characters are enjoyable, . Here's to hoping these are just minor glitches in the series. But I truly wouldn't mind a slightly softer more gentle Carlisle. But no more hugs.

Another winning story based in the Uncanny Kingdom. Rita is back along with her 2 partners in the Uncanny and this time trying to find out who is killing the local wizards and why. Loved the "bad guy" and was kind of on her side through most of the book too. Of course I loved the twist at the very end. Did not see that coming and should have. Just a well written story that grabs you from the beginning and keeps you until the end. Of course there were quite a few scenes that made me laugh out loud too. I loved the story and cannot wait to see what happens next because of the wild twist at the end.

What a bang up job the author has done with this story. Terribly dark but truly terrific, it shows Blackpool in a while new and disturbing light!

I like that there is a case closed main story and an over arching continuing story line keeping me eager to get to the next book.

Another brilliant Uncanny gem…

Some truths are undeniable. One such truth is that the two authors who write the Uncanny Kingdom books will never let you down. If urban fantasy appeals to you at all, you should try one of their series set in the Uncanny Kingdom. They are all brilliant, full of action, loaded with unique and unforgettable characters, and are delightfully seasoned with snarky British humor that makes you laugh out loud. Fatal Moon, the second book of the Hexed Detective series, is no exception. While I do not believe you would be lost if you started with this story, to fully savor the nuances of the characters development and their relationships with one another, I would recommend reading Hexed Detective first. Rita Hobbs, having been hexed in the first book, is still invisible to the mundane (non-magical) world but is learning her way around the Uncanny (magical) community with all its zany inhabitants and insane disregard for basic physics. Always the detective, she is drawn into a murder investigation which requires her rapid introduction to the finer points of lycanthropy. Murder, madness, mayhem and even exorcism are now components of Rita’s typical workday. Can she stop the master werewolf from killing off all of Blackpool’s wizards? Can she find a way to nullify the hex that renders her invisible? Will her magic axe help her fight an evil angel? I am certainly looking forward to finding out what the authors have in store for Rita in the next story. My recommendation: clear a bit of time in your schedule to relax and enjoy this brilliant gem of urban fantasy.

If you choose to listen to the audiobook, be advised that the narrator, Millie Jones, is the perfect choice for Rita Hobbs and she does a fantastic job with all the other characters, as well. Her performance brings the story and the characters to life and enhances the overall enjoyment of the book.

While I did purchase a copy of this book, I was provided with the audiobook version by the authors and I am voluntarily offering my honest and unbiased review.

Just like the first one, this second installment in the Hexed Detective series is amazing!

I really, really like the writing the worldbuilding and the characters, they are likable and strong. I didn't feel the same creepy vibe as the first one though, the story is more "tamed" but amazing nonetheless.

Millie Jones is an amazing narrator! Her accent is quite strong and took me while to get used to it, but omg she is good in her job.

Invisible cop saves the day, with help from Banquo? The bad angel is still out there and now its been joined by a pack of dogs, all in sunny Blackpool!!
Excellent idea for a book, not quite 'all the fun of the fair', but action never stops.
