Mixing magic and street smarts, bounty hunter and P.I. Aster Night always gets her man. Except when it comes to...literally getting a man.
Thanks to a curse placed on the Chastity coven centuries ago, she can't get busy with anyone until she marries a man from the sanctimonious, boring, holier-than-thou Koda coven.
Yeah, no thanks.
Instead, she finds a way out of the curse on her own, breaking it with such a bang that she ends up naked with one sexy as sin man and making some major emotional and physical connections with his two, oh-so-alpha clan brothers.
Her love life is looking up, until she's hired to track down a serial killer preying on witches, and learns her three new boyfriends were once romantically involved with one of the victims.
Now, she has to choose--her heart or her career.
Yes, Rake makes her laugh, Finn makes her knees weak, and Damon makes her feel safe in a way she never has before, but these men are too close to her case.
So close she's afraid one of them might become a killer's next victim...
*This WHITE HOT reverse harem paranormal romance series is intended for readers 18 and over. This is a true reverse harem featuring one woman and her three fated mates. M/M/F/M*
I hate smut with a passion, despite what my reading history might say to the contrary, but within smut genre there is another category: Classy Smut, which I will admit to vaguely enjoying lol. And thankfully Night Magic is one of these, with a genuine attempt at a storyline with reasonable world building, in between a helluva lot of hot sex. And because of this I will forgive this book alot, it especially helps we only have three guys! I mean more than that things start getting a bit ridiculous, I mean lets be serious don't you also start wondering about when these characters get time to do the laundry, actually earn money (if they aren't all billionaires) , eat, have a nap, read a book.... and the eternal question wouldn't things start wearing out with all that sex or at least get a bit boring. I know, I know this isn't real and we read this type of thing because reality sucks, and we want a bit of fun but still... at least try be slightly reasonable .... And here ends my rant and yes I will be reading the next book for intellectual reasons of course. lol
I loved the premise, thought Aster was awesome, and the guys hot. But the characters didn’t develop enough, and no time was spent on their relationship. A successful RH has to have the guys devoted and then in love with the female. In Night Magic too much time was spent talking about the guys lost/dead mate Cassie, leaving Aster as a side thought. That is not a good set up for a RH. There should have been a better connection between all 4 of them. And we saw almost no Damon, and what we did see he spent mourning Cassandra. Again...it wasn’t believable in the connections they should have and establish.
Overall Rating ★★★ Plot ★★★ Humor ★★★ Characters & Character Development ★★★ Narration ★★★ Cliffhanger? NO
Story: I was honestly a bit underwhelmed by this first book. I didn't feel like there was much of a story. The perspectives of the bad guys in the story could have been a little shorter. There was a lot of sex in the story pretty much from the beginning. In the beginning, when I realized that Aster couldn't have sex, I almost gave up right then. Aster seemed to be pretty bad ass but I want to see more proof of that in the next book. I didn't trust her cousin from the start. I'd like to know why she hates Aster so much. Maybe just because she's a bitter bitch but we'll see. The guys seem pretty awesome as well but I would like to see more character development in book 2 with all the characters.
I somewhat want to know what happens next.
Narration: I haven't always loved Hollie Jackson but I think she's started to grow on me a little more.
**My thanks to the author for providing me with a free copy for an honest review**
This is a new genre for the author along with being in the reverse harem trope.
The book has been put together brilliantly, with different covens of witches all able to different things and magics.
We have Aster from the Chastity coven who is feeling the affects of her covens magically imposed chastity for unmarried women.
We also have Finn, Damon and Rake, members of the Koda coven who recently lost their forth, a woman called Cassandra who was recently murdered.
We get to see multiple points of view, from the men, Aster, Raven (Asters cousin) and someone called Kali who is in another coven.
The suspense is great and the book DOES end on a cliff hanger. I certainly was not ready for the book to finish and could have read on for ages, but i will greatly look forward to what happens next, i can't wait!!
What have I just read? It was preposterous, funny, spicy and I loved it. So, basically our fmc is part of. Chastity coven, she’s a 25 year old virgin who can’t get it off (not even by herself- poor thing) and has never had n orgasm because of a curse. She basically has been edged for her entire adult life without release. A external and sinister force influences her to do something reckless, and she nd her 3 men suffer or more accurately orgasm the consequences of her spell. It end on a cliffhanger, but before that there was enough discovered in order for us form a clear picture of what is going on. Great narration, Eve if the female one wasn’t my favorite.
Night Magic starts with us reading about the main character, Aster, being felt up in an alley by a man she is interrogating before he succumbs to the curse placed on her coven thousands of years ago and falls unconscious. A good way to introduce us to the drive behind the main plot, but it did kind of turn me off the book a bit. I don’t mind a bit of heat in my reading material but when nearly every paragraph is about sex, lust or sex magic it does become a bit much.
Valente and King have created a fantastic dark world where witches reside along humans. The writing style was flawless and flowed well, I just felt that it could have done with a bit more between all the lust and heavy stuff. Saying that, I didn’t mind Night Magic and will no doubt read the next instalment in this trio. If you’re a fan of magic and multiple partners then I would recommend giving Night Magic a go.
Thanks to a curse put on the Chastity coven centuries ago, no witch can have a sexual relationship with a man unless she marries one from the sanctimonious, boring, holier-than-thou Koda coven. After a lifetime of suffering this curse, bounty hunter and PI, Aster decides to take a chance at breaking the curse herself. But she unwittingly does so in close proximity to three Koda clan brothers who just happen to have lost their mate. With the newly released sexual energy, Aster is in no position to deny the advances of Rake or the emotional pull she feels towards his clan brothers, Finn and Damon.
When Aster's job requires her to hunt a serial killer on Koda land there's no way she can deny the attraction she feels towards all three brothers. Will she be able to set her feelings aside and focus on her job or will she lose herself to the new found pleasure she's found with these men?

Great ready for a wicked ride!

Nice for a quick read but don't expect anything magical about this storyline. The steamy parts are just that but the romance is quite forced and the rest of the plot is only filler to carry you to those hotter places. Great if that's what you're looking for but weak otherwise. Sorry.
Reverse harem. I had to think about that for a minute as I realized I’d read these books for years without giving them a name. Well, I had a few names for them. Sexy, sultry, passionate and delightfully… crowded. When I knew one of my favourite authors was writing in this genre I was thrilled and this, the first book in a new series, was full of all the naughty, naughty goodness.
Aster Night is a kick-ass heroine of the first order. She is a bounty hunter, an investigator and a member of a coven that prevents her from experiencing the ultimate orgasmic experience unless she bows to only one requirement. One itty-bitty, hard to fulfill, and seemingly impossible requirement…
“…big rough Rake, the quieter, brooding Damon, and the wicked man with the flashing eyes.”
Rake, Finn and Damon. Oh where do I begin to describe these complex, alpha, sexy men? They are unique and compelling in their own way so watching them meet and interact with Aster meant different reactions and responses. All of the guaranteed to spark emotions and a lot of goose bumps…
Meeting this tempting trio on her newest assignment is a kick to Aster’s libido (and the heart) in a delicious matchup that kicks the sexy meter to explosive. Nothing is easy, however, and a slam dunk courtship this is not.
“…at a bone deep level, he recognized his mate, his woman, the one he’d been waiting for. It was crazy…”
These characters, and the situations they find themselves in, make riveting reading as they move from fan-worthy, passionate scenes to soul-searching conversations. Throw in a murderous mystery with all kinds of complications and this story kept me entertained and glued to the pages all the way through. Do not give a strong, sexually frustrated woman a weapon and brains because she is going to be a force to reckon with - deliciously so! I can’t wait for more as their story is not even close to be finished – thank goodness!
If you don’t like a lot of sex in your stories DO NOT read this. The entire story is centered around sex as a type of conduit for magic, good and evil. Or light and dark. There is hardly a page that goes by that doesn’t include sex. So now that the warning has been issued...
Very interesting plot. Aster is a specific type of witch that had been cursed thousands of years ago to not be able to have sex unless they were married. They have a name that is very apropos to the curse - Chasity witches. Aster is a very strong witch that had enough power to break the curse. In doing so she connected herself, in a way, with the bond mates of a different coven that were out performing their own ritual to find out who had killed their 4th mate, a female named Cassandra. What they don’t know is that someone has been pulling the strings of this powerful Chasity witch because she is needed to break ANOTHER curse. Aster is definitely in trouble and she is going to need help, but how difficult is it going to be to help her when the spell she is finding herself under is demanding that she conceive, and well, we all know how that happens. The big problem is - are the things they are feeling for each other real or remnants of the love they had for their lost mate? Could aster be more than cursed? We don’t know this yet but am eager find out in book 2 Like I said, the whole story centers around sex and it gets wild and sometimes violent and there is a bit of mm thrown in as well. This story won’t be for everyone but if you have an open mind I’m sure you will enjoy it
I really enjoyed this start to a seriously hot and intriguing new PNR series. I listened to it on Audiobook courtesy of the author and let me just say, oh my! I haven't read too many reverse harem or paranormal lately, I'm a big fan of the Anita Blake and Meredith Gentry series both reverse harem but not with witches so this is a very cool new change for me. This book is sexy and steamy in a new way, a way in which real life can never really copy. The imagination, world building, storyline and character development is simply fantastic. I love the different covens we are introduced to and what they bring to the table. Aster is fascinating. She is a member of the Chastity coven. Their thing is that all unmarried female members of their coven must practice abstinence. Aster wields some pretty cool magic! Her men, or they will be anyway,Damon, Finn and Rake are so sexy and each very different from the other; and are from a different coven, the Koda coven. They are all also still grieving the loss of Cassandra who was their fourth. Aster is a PI and she is investigating Cassandra's death among others and thus begins some smokin' hot interactions with these men and some nefarious goings on courtesy of some demons. This is a cliffhanger, I am assuming it will be an ongoing storyline so we will get much more character development and all the good stuff!! I cannot wait for more in this series!
I'm a die harder follower of L. Valente and when I saw that she had a new release I knew I had to get my hands on it. Night Magic is about Aster, a bounty hunter witch of the Chastity coven, has gone and broken a two thousand year old curse placed on her convenient. Now all she can think about is making up for all the orgasms she has missed out on, and the three Koda men that some how have implanted themselves in her heart and soul. Finn, Rake and Damon want to find their fourth's murderer but also feel this deep connection and possessiveness over Aster. Are the feeling Aster has for Finn, Rake and Damon her own or of the fourth's who death has left a gaping hole in the three men's hearts? Night Magic is a paranormal story filled with explicit and graphic scenes of pleasure mixed in with a murder mystery. There is a darkness that is threatening to take over and Aster just might be the vessel its waiting for. I was left at the edge of my seat wondering what will happen next. L. Valente has outdone herself once again and it was nice to see that even in this type of genre she can knock it out of the ballpark. Hurry up... I don't think I can take waiting to see what will happen next.
"Then Rake whispered a few words too softly for her to hear and dropped his lips to hers. She parted for him immediately, melting into the feel of his tongue sweeping through her mouth with tender strokes that made every inch of her, inside and out, ache to be closer to the man. Whatever fears lurked in her mind seemed to disappear when he touched her, kissed her, like this. It felt so much better than she wanted it to. 'what was that about?' She asked, when he finally pulled away. 'A spell of protection. I don't want you getting hurt while we're separated.' She tried to laugh, but it emerged as a breathy huff. 'Does all Koda magic involve sex in some way?' 'No, the kiss was optional.' He grinned, a sexy smile that would have been equally at home on Finn's face, and released her before heading up the steps to her apartment with her keys in his hand. 'I can protect muself, Rake.' 'I know you can,' he tossed over his shoulder, 'but now i'll worry less while i'm inside.'"
That's my favorite part...
I guess, the more simple the act, the more valued it should be..
I was very much interested in this story based on the synopsis. I love PNR, UF, and have a weird soft spot for PI stories. However, I also read low star reviews before selecting books and the rating of this book made me a little nervous. Tie that in with the fact that this author typically does contemporary work and I had very low expectations for quality. Imagine my surprise when I realized IT WAS AWESOME! I kept waiting for the story to take a nosedive but it never did. The quality was consistent throughout the book.
I'm not sure what turned off some of the reviewers but I was fully engaged and devoured the story with no breaks. It is sexy, complex, with some adventure, and more than a little darkness. There is some light dub con, some BDSM elements, and some abuse but nothing super intense. The characters are well-developed and the storyline is engaging. There is a frequent POV shift, which I have no issue with, but may have distracted some readers. If nothing about this review has detoured you, pick this book up!!! I highly recommend it.
Thank goodness for Kindle Unlimited. I enjoyed reading Night Magic which is the first book in the Savior City Witches series. If you like reading about the characters in a story having sex and a lot of it then this book is for you.
I haven’t read a lot of books about witches and their worlds. I found this one interesting. There is a curse on the Chasity coven that had been placed centuries ago. Aster Night is in the Chasity coven and she can’t and she can’t have sex unless she marries a man from the Koda Coven.
Aster finds a way to break the curse but ends up getting naked with not one of the, no two, no 3 of the Koda Covens members…. Yes, 3 Alpha’s. Rake, Finn & Damon.
If you haven’t figured it out yet. The is a M/M/F/M ménage romance. And, of the new genre of Reverse Harems. This is a very steamy book to read. I did mention there is a lot of sex in Night Magic. There isn’t just sex though because there is suspense involved as well.
So this is an interesting twist on the reverse harem theme which is already an interesting twist on the multiple partner genre.
Aster is a witch from the Chastity coven which means no hook-ups. Until she figures a way around that with not one...not two...but three alpha men. Her "hook-ups" aren't all about the sex, but boy is there a lot of that.
This book is a great, fun read with lots and lots of naughty bits!! Can't wait for Book 2 when I'm sure we'll delve into even more of the reverse harem theme.
Don't be fooled though - there is a good story here with mystery, murder, betrayal and intrigue along with the brotherly bond of males.
I voluntarily requested and reviewed an uncorrected advance reader copy.
Holy hot damn! What an awesome book! Aster, the chastity coven witch wielding some shades of gray magic inadvertently brings 3 mysterious Koda coven witches into her life. She was trying to free herself from the centuries long chastity spell... they were trying to find their murdered mate. Insta lust ensues. Now Aster is officially investigating the murder of their mate, but feels like it’s more than just magic bringing her together with Damon, Finn and Rake. This book is fast paced, a bit dark and a whole lot of hot. Murder, mystery, sex and magic. Who could want more?
I love spice but this book is kinda stupid. Chasity witches that literally can’t get off unless they marry a certain type of other witch, this 25 year old girl is rubbing up against everything to try to get relief. Then she does a forbidden spell in the woods to break her curse then has sex with the first person she sees. Only to find out the next day she has to work with him & his best friends/ bond brothers to find the murderer of their love. Then she has very violent sex with another brother & even an object in the woods because she was tracing some dark magic ruins 🙄 The story isn’t very good but the spice isn’t bad
This book is definitely not with the sex and the male characters. That is what have me the obsessive compulsion to keep reading 📚. I needed more from them and to see how this darkness effects Finn. The chastity coven seems uninspiring and I could really care less about their problems. Fortunate enough the story doesn't really need that info to be interesting enough for me to keep reading. The heroine is strong and that gives this a little more intrigue. I am optimistic about the next part
The story starts off with Aster being in an ally with a man who is feeling her up who falls to curse and then becomes unconscious. The story would be good without so much sex it is like everything being done involves sex. I know this book is suppose to have sex but geez sometimes you can over do it when you are trying to build a story. Aster is a bounty hunter it makes her look real bad when you have someone she is chasing to feel her up. Really!! When I think of a bounty hunter she/he would be stronger not the opposite. That is just my opinion.
Aster is a witch in the Chastity coven, which is cursed. They are unable to have sex until they marry a member of their rival coven, who will then leave them after they have kids...basically. Aster is getting increasingly frustrated so she finds a way to break her curse. She then immediately finds herself caught up with 3 men from the aforementioned rival coven. As a group they begin an investigation with demonic elements.
This was ok I suppose. Some of the sexy scenes were a little much...and there was a lot of them, but there was a good amount of story too.
This book kept me interested from the first chapter and didn't stop. It deals with a serial murders done with magic. You have Aster who is a bounty hunter but also is an investigator. Her magic is in the gray area. Its neither all white but neither is it all dark. Each of the men have magic also. The best thing I'm going to say is get both books because this one does end in a cliffhanger.
Narrated by Hollie Jackson and Aiden Snow. Good. I liked the world, with the witches and magic. I also like the menage concept, but in this instance it felt more like a way to put in lots of sex scenes. Regardless, I enjoyed it. I like both of these narrators, but found Hollie Jackson’s male character voice annoying - it was too flat, not enough inflection for my tastes. Be ye warned - this one ends on a cliffhanger.
Loving the start of this series! Murders among the witch covens. Demons and witches and sex magic. What more could a paranormal lover ask for? Oh yeah...a RH theme! Love it! Smoking hot when Aster and Rake got together! A bit dark when she was with Finn. Can't wait for the next book!
Audible version. Cliffhanger ending. This was the worst book I finished this year. I gave it 1.5 stars bc the narrator did an impressive enough job to keep me listening to the end. I’m happy it was free. If you’re looking for an underwhelming story with decent narrator I’d recommend this drivel. I will not be continuing the series.
This book has a good storyline and I’m intrigued to find out what happens in book 2. However there were aspects I wasn’t so keen on like the lack of interaction beyond the main characters and I would have liked there to be more development of the characters that were mentioned.
Didn’t realise it had M/M themes in it....do not into that! Plus after reading the 4th chapter I couldn’t read anymore....Maybe I should have given it a bit longer....but as soon as they started talking about an ex lover and how they were thinking about her while doing stuff with each other (no matter the reason!) nah defo not for me!!
I really enjoyed this story and the narrators when I listened to the audible version. The writing kept me involved in the story and the characters. Loved both the male and female voices. I listened to it twice. Now I am going to the second one. Going to read and listen!
I don't think steamy even does this book justice when trying to describe it.. Erotic, risqué, sweltering, provocative, are all words I'd use to describe Night Magic. Ends on a cliffy that will have you on pins and needles until you can get your hands on the 2nd book to read the conclusion and FINALLY find out what's to come.
