Tucker thought he had it all: a promising career in football, a huge house, and enough money to be set for life. But everything changed after he rescued a woman from a burning car. After the injuries he sustained, his football career is over, and the fame he once enjoyed is now crushing him on his difficult road to recovery.
There is, however, a glint of hope in his life when he's reunited with his high school sweetheart, Ryan. Tucker soon realizes his forced retirement from football is nothing compared to the regret he carries for having ever left Ryan behind. But is Ryan willing to give him a second chance?
Ryan has had great success as a therapy dog trainer, but despite that, he remains hopelessly single. Nobody compares to Tucker, his old high school sweetheart, and he's pretty much accepted that his dogs will be his only companions in life. But soon a bittersweet opportunity arises when he learns of Tucker's condition.
Ryan believes he can help Tucker with the aid of a special shelter dog and, perhaps, help himself too. He wants nothing more than to rekindle their past love, but is Tucker willing to take that step?
Love in Overtime is a standalone novel featuring two hot men, one sweet rescue dog, and a happy ending for all three of them!
Look... I shouldn't have liked this book at all. There was so many things against it, but yet I really did like this book.
You have to suspend all of your disbelieves to like this book. Not much makes sense. Ryan is talking to a deaf man (no mention of sign language). Tucker and Ryan goes from 0 to 100 really fast. Everything is going a little too smooth, everything is a little too perfect. There's not much of an intrigue at all. The writing is not the best. At times there was too much telling instead of showing and at times there was too much showing. And there's a lot of

Annoying? Right? Maybe it's just me. Anyway, sometimes I just don't care. I fell head over heels in love with Tucker and Ryan and their story. Underneath all the mistakes in telling the story there's actually a really sweet and tender second chance story about two men who never stopped loving each other, who never stopped hoping that they would get together again. And when they finally do, it's the most natural thing in the world. I fell head over heels in love with Morgan, the dog. If there one thing I want to give the author credit for, it's the way she handled the dogs in this story. It was spot on, everything right. Sloane Easton knows dogs and she told it as I wish every author would do it. Maybe this book gave me so much because of that. Probably. Nothing makes me happier than an author portraying how to be a good dog parent 100% right.
What I'm trying to say is that I can see why the ratings for this book is quite low. I even agree. I just don't care.
I know all the negative things people said about this book are probably true. Yes, it’s totally unrealistic. Yes, Tucker turns around too quickly. Ok, staying virgins until their age is totally crazy, and on and on.
I don’t care. I liked it. I loved Ryan and Tucker. Tucker’s family was incredible, but most of all I adored Morgan. This is a very sweet low angst read.
One of the things that has pissed me off the most about this book is the cover. Sure, it's cute, and yeah, I do love it. BUT. One of the main characters is described as having some horrible scarring disfiguring one side of his face. Look at that cover. Neither man has any form of scarring on his face. You want to represent a character with physical flaws? Represent them properly!
Characters were cardboard cutouts of each other, and all acted and spoke the same. I seriously had trouble telling them apart. Dialogue didn't read naturally - no-one speaks the way these characters do. Everyone was just so bland and boring, and I couldn't connect with any of them.
Another reviewer mentioned that emotional support animals, therapy animals, and service animals all require different training, and that only service animals should be taken out in public (stores, etc). This book did not even slightly grasp that.
I had high hopes for this book, and I really wanted to like it, but the execution was awful. Boring, cardboard characters - one of whom is not properly represented on the cover - ridiculous dialogue, terrible emotional/physical descriptions throughout the novel (that elicited little to no response), and not an ounce of research in sight. I was unable to connect with the characters and the story.
Love is sweeter the second time around. This is a lovely and sweet second chance at love story. It’s a read that leaves you feeling warm and fuzzy at the end. The author did a fantastic job of giving insights into the training of service dogs. And Morgan became one of my favorite parts of this story.
High school sweethearts, that were not meant to be. Tucker has a promising career in football and decides to leave Ryan behind to pursue it. Ryan’s heart is broken, but he understands. Doesn’t mean he’s ever stopped loving Tucker though. When a tragedy ends Tucker’s ability to play, he comes home a bitter and scarred man. With the help of his family and their recruiting of Ryan and finding the right service dog, slowly Tucker comes out of his depression and learns to live life again.
Tucker and Ryan are beautifully written characters. Ryan with his gentle and persistent encouragement of Tucker. And Tucker’s slow and steady growth back into the real world. This story is a wonderful, feel good read.
This was a new author for me and I really enjoyed this story. It was really sweet with a little heartache but with love determination and a sweet puppy it conquers all else.
Tucker and Ryan were childhood sweet hearts who decided to go their separate ways when Tucker went to play football.
Unfortunately Tucker was involved in a serious accident and that ended his career and his life as he knew it. With the help of his Ex and a new puppy called Morgan he gets his life together. It might not have been the life he planned but everything happens for a reason.
If your looking for a sweet romance and adorable puppies look no further. It’s a super sweet easy read perfect for a lazy afternoon.
I received an arc from the author in exchange for an honest opinion.
This story did not make sense. I loved the idea of the service dog bringing them together but the rest of it wasn't well done. The speed of recovery was absurd.
This could have been a great story. But the author didn't take the twenty minutes to do the basic research to determine the difference between a service animal, a therapy animal, and an emotional support animal. The three are NOT interchangeable, and shouldn't be represented as such. Emotional support animals should NEVER be brought out in public, and therapy animals aren't allowed to go to grocery stores or restaurants. One simple Google search and clicking on the first link that comes up would have cleared this up, and the book would have been great. I did not finish this book, as I couldn't get past the glaring misinformation.
A wonderful read from Sloane Easton. Tucker is permanently injured from saving a woman from a burning car but it has ended his football career. Wallowing in pain and pity, spending his time alone at home and giving up on any possible future. Ryan is a dog trainer for people with disabilities, both physical and mental. After catching up with Tucker's parents, they were friends in high school, he makes the suggestion of a dog for Tucker. Meeting up again starts off on a tense foot with Tucker not wanting any pity or sympathy from others, especially not Ryan, his first love. However with a bit of introspection from Tucker and perseverance from Ryan, they move forward with the training and find Tucker his soulmate and companion in Morgan. This is definitely a feel good book. Tucker's emotions about himself and his accident are honest and hard but with the right people and hard work, anything is possible. It doesn't seem to take long for things to change for the positive which I found a bit too quick with how dark Tucker's feelings were and how long it had been since Tucker and Ryan had seen each other. But that's the book this is, very much loved up and working to better both MC's, and even the dog's, lives. Tucker's family are amazing giving so much support through his recovery, you can sense how much they all care for each other. It was a shame we didn't get and secondary characters on Ryan's side, though he is described as finds it hard to socialise and be around others for long periods of time. I love the work that Ryan does, and the children and adults that he helps with it. It brings to light organisations that are working today in the real world, helping people with their daily lives and to achieve their aims. Nearly cried with Davey first getting his dog and then again at the Game Day. I really enjoyed the relationship between Tucker and Ryan, it comes through really easily how much that they care for each other despite the time they spent apart. The locations that they visited were easily envisioned, the dog park and the restaurants they visit together. Love the one that offers water bowls and food for dogs as well as a flag on the table that you can hold up to get the wait staff's attention. Very good idea for physically impaired people!
This was such a sweet and charming story about second chances and adjusting to a new lifestyle. Lovely written with just the right amount of sweetness, fun, and sexiness. Tucker and Ryan were boyfriends when in high school, but they made their choice to go after their dreams. When Tucker is seriously wounded, it is Ryan and don’t forget cute German shepherd Morgan, who help him to love again. To love himself, scarred and all, love other people, and most of all love Ryan. This author has a delicate touch of addressing difficult issues, so that it is not too heavy, nor is it glossed over. It gives a good impression of how your life can change and how you can overcome obstacles with a little help of human and canine. Tucker and Ryan are realistic and likable characters, and it is refreshing that neither holds a grudge over what happened when they were younger and that they are seriously happy with each other again. The family dynamics are super, and I loved the interactions with Morgan. If you are looking for a fun, sweet, and quick read, Love in Overtime is the book to pick up.
What a sweet second chance love story. I'm new to this author and was impressed with how well written the story was, and how well developed the characters were.
Despite the story line touching on a serious subject, the book was surprisingly angst free. One of the MCs, Tucker, suffers from depression, and has cut himself off from his previous life and those who love him. Even though the book is ultimately a second chance story, and I enjoyed both Tucker and Ryan, in my opinion, it was the rescue dog which stole the story.
Morgan was simply wonderful. Ms Easton showed clearly how a service dog can make a huge difference to those who suffer from anxiety and stress. The bond between Morgan and Tucker had a massive impact on Tucker's state of mind and way of life. Ms Easton appears to know dogs, and demonstrated how special the bond between dogs and people can be.
Tucker and Ryan gelled really well together, and were believable as a couple. I actually sighed when they got their HEA. If you want a sweet romance which will brighten up your day, this is the book for you.
Adorable second chance at love story with a touching story-line. Well written and really touched realistically on some very intense issues. I liked how the author touched on depression, anxiety, and how a service dog can make a huge impact. I loved the addition of Morgan, a terrific rescue dog (8 month old puppy) and how the bond between him and Tucker made a huge difference. Unconditional love from a dog creates a bond that is amazing for people!
i loved the exposure to the training and impact of service dogs on a very valuable population. Also i like that there was realistic information about the the education that goes into someone becoming a service dog trainer.
Tucker and Ryan were terrific together and i loved that they got their HEA. Both characters were very lovable and i would love to know them in real life! Happy that i met them in my fantasy world!
Tucker got badly injured while rescuing a lady from a burning vehicle. He was a football hero but had to retire after the injury. He was depressed and isolated when Ryan, his highschool sweetheart comes to the rescue. Ryan is dealing with therapy dogs' training and rehabilitation. They get Morgan, a perfect dog for Tucker and its pretty easy from there leading to a happy ending. thats the storyline.
Tucker & Ryan were perfect for each other, but separated in highschool so that Tucker could pursue his career! I couldnt digest that and the way they reconnected felt too easy.
This was only an okay read for me. The plot was good, but the writing felt ametuerish. Felt like a sweet story without much reality. The book is pretty good on dogs ,their care and therapy involved. Very informative regarding that aspect
I really enjoyed this sweet, angsty and fun story. It is well-written and the characters are inspiring. I love that Ryan trains rescue dogs to be service dogs and the best part of this book is Morgan, the dog rescued by Tucker and Ryan to be trained as a service dog for Tucker. Morgan has a huge and positive impact on Tucker's recovery from the injuries he sustained while saving a woman from her burning car. Ryan and Tucker have a second chance to be together but Tucker feels too damaged, physically and emotionally, to be in a relationship. Ryan won't let Tucker push him away and will do everything in his power to convince him to give them a chance at a HEA. I look forward to reading more books by Sloane Easton. I was given an ARC to review by the author.
Beautiful sweet delicate passionate incredible so much in just one story in one book, this beautiful love almond Tacker and Ryan and the dogs, Morgan sweet incredible dog. A big thank you is needed for the amazing way this book has been plotted and developed, throughout a passionate writing and a delicate touch on a very hard tematiche. I adored every part of this book each line and each situation has been described with tons of different colors and you don’t stop surprising at every turn of page.
Quick paced, loads of sweetness, and very minor angst, this book was a really nice escape. Ryan’s character is almost too perfect, it makes me jealous. I want a Ryan of my own. Adorable and so very kindhearted, he focuses on what he can do for his first and only love. Tucker too has never forgotten Ryan, and his injuries has turned his life upside down. He also has a big heart. The characters are well written, editing is well done and nothing took me out of the story (plot holes-wise). As an added bonus we get dogs! Recommend this as a book to take you to a happy place.
This is a very sweet, low-angst romance of two high school sweethearts reunited as adults. Tucker gave up his boyfriend Ryan to focus on football in college. After making it to the NFL, Tucker is badly injured trying to save a woman after an accident. His career now over, he pushes his friends away, and Ryan shows back up in his life to save him from himself. I love Ryan's patience and care with the dogs - and with Tucker. And I love that the two men never doubt each other. My favorite thing, though, is Tucker's bond with his sweet dog Morgan. This is a lovely story!
I wanted to like this more than I did. There's very little drama in this. At least there are dogs.
Tucker is recovering from a horrific accident where he's badly injured and burned after rescuing a woman from a burning car and then hit by another car. His road to recovery is painful and he's depressed. He reconnects with his high school boyfriend, Ryan, who trains therapy dogs. Tucker then adopts the most awesome dog in the world and rekindles his former romance with Ryan.
And seriously, that's kind of it. There's a nice HEA at least.
This is an author I’ve not read before, but I will definitely read more from her. This is a mainly angst free, second chance love affair of the ages. Tucker the damaged hero and Ryan his cornerstone. Add in Morgan the wonder dog, the one we all want to take home. You have a winning combination. Tuckers family are a great bunch and add nicely to the story.
I received this ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.
Everything just worked out fast and just so perfectly for everyone. All in a matter of days, Tucker was better then ever. Ryan's business is bustling and all is perfect in the world. They are both virgins too...waited all these years just for each other. Through College and Pro football fame and all...there was no one else....wow! Can't get more perfect then that....
I love this second chance romance. It's a beautiful story that is flawlessly written and I love the inclusion of a service dog and the big impact they have on people. Tucker and Ryan are perfect together and they have great chemistry. Ryan was really everything Tucker needed and truly helped him heal, both physically and emotionally. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
Well written, captivating story of second chance love. When high school sweethearts & friends chose to follow their dreams and only connect again after tragedy befalls one of the MCs. The introduction of a service dog / puppy makes this love story all the more sweeter.
Totally great new book by Sloane. This story includes a true hero and a sensitive, kind guy and a wonderful dog. Well written, wonderfully complex characters and a phenomenal story line. Read it you will love it! OK, I guess I forgot to say romantic, erotic M/M story, that about covers it all.
This was a short and sweet story. I love children and pets in stories. This story checks both those boxes. Ryan and Tucker were great. Other than that one big event, there wasn’t too much angst.
A cute enough story. No twists and turns. Just a story about a guy who got hurt rescuing someone. Tucker sustained injuries and is not dealing well with life changes. He meets up with an old friend who makes an offer to help.
I loved the idea of this book. The writing is not catching me though. I found myself skimming through the entire book. I felt like I was reading a script instead of a story. My favorite character I think was Morgan. Sorry but this book just didn't do it for me.
This was my first book by Sloane Easton and it definitely won't be my last. Second chance books are some of my favorites and this one didn't disappoint. I absolutely loved Ryan and Tucker and I didn't want their story to end. Loved it!!
omg i love ryan and tucker! second chances at romance are my thing! tucker was a really great guy and lost football but found love. even better if you ask me! great story, would def recommend.
