Sam Lee Jackson's 2nd installment of Jackson Blackhawk series. One of the first people I met after moving onto my houseboat, named the Tiger Lily by the previous owner, was the marina’s jack of all trades handyman, a retired fifty year Chicago cop named Eddie. We found we had a lot in common when I had the houseboat dragged up into the maintenance yard to scrape the barnacles off the bottom of the boat. I hired Eddie to help. In the middle of the summer, it was hot, dirty, and tiring work. Eddie never complained and showed up every day. Showing a lot of grit for a man in his mid-seventies.So, when Eddie came to ask me a favor, how could I refuse? Eddie had moved to Arizona from Chicago. His nephew was a city cop in Cottonwood, an hour and a half north of Phoenix. Not big enough lakes nearby for Eddie, an avid crappie fisherman, so he moved onto a worn old River Runner at Pleasant Lake. He could still take the highway up to see family in just over an hour.It was really hard for a man like Eddie to ask a favor, but he had heard of Blackhawk’s and my exploits in saving the teenaged girl from the street gangs. So, he mustered his courage and came to me. I popped a PBR beer as soon as Eddie stepped aboard and handed it to him. I let Eddie get around to it.“My nephew in Cottonwood is a cop,” he said. I waited. “You know how people say crazy things in the heat of the moment.” I waited. “He has a girlfriend and wants to get married. But they were at a bar and drinking and this dickwad starts mouthing off about the girl. My nephew told the guy to shut up or he’d take his head off. Just crap you say in the heat of the moment. Two days later the guy shows up without a head.” He was looking at me hard to see my reaction. I didn’t give him one.“What’s he charged with?” I said.“Murder one.”“Takes more than threats to get indicted.”“They found a K-Bar combat knife at the scene. It was my nephews. He’d had it since he was stationed in the middle east. It had evidence on it, including my nephew’s fingerprints. They have him cold.”Eddie looked out the starboard window and watched the gulls zip by. He looked at the floor. Then he looked at me. I met his eyes. They didn’t waiver. He looked at me steadily. “He’s my sisters’ boy and he don’t lie. I could pay you something.”I waved my hand at that. “I can be available in the morning,” I said.We all expect barbaric terrorism to be somewhere across the ocean. It’s very shocking when we find in in small town America.
Been awhile since I found a good book to keep me interested, I read the first and second of the series and both were well written and made me not want to put them down. I will by the third
I finished the first one in the series this morning and then got this. Quick read and a good read. Characters continue to grow and develop with us getting more of Jackson’s backstory. Good plot that kept moving. Lots of action. Recommended.
Although this was technically two stories in one, the action was still non stop. We are still getting to know our main characters but I like meeting new people. Good enough that I will get the next one now.
I liked this book and found it easy to follow. I liked the characters and except for the reward I thought it was reasonably believable. I hope that as the series goes further they bring in more members of their seal team.
Sam Lee Jackson has done it again!! This author has a magic pen. This story from beginning unto the last sentence captivates the reader's attention. There is action, mystery, thrills, twists and turns, all of which leads the reader to a satisfactory conclusion, at the end of the story. Great Read
A policeman charged with murder, a militant bunch of yahoos, and terrorists.
Add a cartel looking for its stolen money and the mix takes ingenuity, great skill, and friends who are not afraid to move on demand just to stay alive. Great characters, excellent action, plenty of surprises, and well worth the time.
For a man with only one good foot, the hero sure gets around and keeps a story moving with action and suspense as to what will happen next. Great read!
Jackson and Blackhawk are back. Two of the best at what they do. They both served in the service and then later became elite soldiers though training. Now, Jackson and Blackhawk live in Phoenix, AZ. Blackhawk owns a bar and Jackson, well he lives on a houseboat, fishes and with Blackhawk, an unbeatable team.
In this one, his best friend, Eddie, asks for his help. His nephew has just been arrested for murder. He wants Jackson to go with him and help find the person that has framed his nephew. Getting involved in this one, will throw Jackson, Blackhawk and Nacho into a terrorist group and running their lives.
Love these books and can't wait to get started on the next one. Another read that you won't put down.
A good book that is easy to read, the author could do with a little more knowledge on guns as he makes some mistakes on capacity and design. I like the fact it is set in Arizona as it gives the stories a different feel.
Two Jackson books and I am half way drunk. 2 books = 6 rum and cokes. This is good stuff. I don't recall how I found it, but I am glad I did. I think there are 6 more of these and I am going to get plastered.
I love this series! Action, humor and heros. Such fun. Start with the first book in the series. I just bought book 3 and I'm hoping there will be a book 4 and more.
Easy read with good story and action. Like lead character Jackson. Good man that gets the job done. Story of bad guy thieves and terrorist cell but story flows.
