Mary Bartlet Leader was the author of two novels, Triad: A Novel of the Supernatural (1972) and Salem’s Children (1979). Triad was the inspiration behind the popular Fleetwood Mac song "Rhiannon".
Leader died on April 27, 2004, in Mequon, Ozaukee County, Wisconsin where she had been a long time resident.
Was so disappointed in this book - the story had potential. The dialogue was stilted - it never flowed or felt natural. The characters were never fleshed out so I could not keep track of all the townspeople - totally forgot who was who & how they were related. It felt very rushed & there was no emotional impact at the climax - no one seemed to care about a missing toddler or a major death. The only parts I enjoyed was when she went into the past - weren’t enough of them & didn’t tie that up properly. Overall very poorly written.
Right from the start we are confronted with possession, witchcraft, abuse, trauma, mysteries ,family problems, romantic tension.., a dozen characters and info dumps. It too overwhelming.
I spent most of this book wondering where the heck the author was going with the story. I'm still puzzled about what the point of it all was. Lots of plot points hastily tied up at the very end.
