I want an amulet like Rellen's.

Read this if you like: graphic novels, warriors who don't need sleep, illegitimate princesses, faraway lands, beautifully patterned textiles (!), court intrigues, assassination attempts, seers

I am still a fan of this series, but really I'm starting to go mad with the crawling pace of it. Sleepless's art (by Leila del Duca) is extraordinary and perfectly suited to the medieval-esque fantasy world presented here. The lore we are being fed one tiny bite-sized morsel at a time is also intriguing and I am still saying worth the wait to discover more about it.

But the pace is really starting to drag, more and more so each issue. Now in the fourth installment we don't even get through a full half a day of events. Though to be fair, plenty does happen - just not in a way that helps propel the story forward or bring any of the characters closer in a more meaningful way. In fact, *spoiler alert!* we somehow managed to reveal that Poppy and Cyrenic weren't already together as (I guess) many of us already believed from their closeness in previous issues?! Now we have to question whether or not Cyrenic even knows Lady Pyppenia has romantic feelings for him. And the way their discussions on the more "intimate" points of romance went down I'm also questioning a lot more about the entirety of the relationship beyond Sleepless Knight and Lady - are they friends? Were they ever? Or has Cyrenic kind of been the cool older guy that Poppy's always not-so-secrelty adored but never had the courage to come out with a confession concerning? Of course, with the current pace of we are going these and more questions may not be answered until we're halfway through Volume 3...

All rants aside, the writing and story is obvious gripping and worth your investment since I'm over here rooting for the series to even make it to a Volume 3. Looking forward to see what we uncover (or simply have teased) in issue 5!

Wholly enjoying this political intrigue and how Vaughn plays with the tension between her characters. I've read stories where characters are conflicted with one another yet never have those instances been so natural or interesting. I'm truly concerned for these individuals.
