What makes a wise, effective leader? For the answer, Derek Tidball turns to Moses' successor, Joshua. While leading God's people at a key time in their history, Joshua needed every ounce of wisdom for the challenges he faced. Through exploring the great man's story in the book of Joshua, Dr Tidball uncovers more than twenty leadership lessons that are still highly relevant today.
Good leadership 101 book on leadership - the insights go way beyond 101.
Includes comments and quotes from leaders who are focussed on discipline , team work , hard work and integrity; some good quotes from Alex Ferguson of Manchester United .
Joshua spent long years as a leader in waiting/training - not a meteoric rise but a pathway of learning under Moses . But his calling and work will be different . Moses brought the people to move out of Egypt. Joshua has to bring the people into the land and settle them in.
The book gives good principles for integrity, the need to express gratitude to team members ( leaders give thanks ; may not always receive thanks) and must build character alongside competence .
Not sure if I agree with his comment that “drivers are often best in the leadership chair” ( Susan Cain in her Ted Talks and books on Introverts and Leadership would give a different view) - but overall this book is a good foundation .
