This review and many others can also be found at Musings of a (Book) Girl.

The Fast and the Furriest was a lot of fun. I didn’t read the first in the series, Snazzy Cat Capers, before diving into this one and that was completely okay. There wasn’t any point where I felt as if I didn’t know what was going on or was missing a piece of information that had been covered in the first book.

There aren’t a ton of characters included but they were all distinguishable and enjoyable. My favorite was Oscar, an inventor who was a goldfish. He had a heart of gold and was just so pure. Ophelia, the main cat, was very sassy and I loved her for that. I do wish she had been a little nicer though, especially to Oscar.

Puns are something I always love and this book was dripping with them. Mostly they were cat related but there were a few dog-themed ones sprinkled throughout as well. The puns coupled with the illustrations made this so enjoyable.

My only complaint is that I wish some things had been explored just a little more. I know this is a middle-grade novel intended to be on the younger side of the scale but that doesn’t mean there can’t be reasons for everything.

If my son were older and reading at this level I would definitely share these books with them. This, at the moment, two-part series would be such a great gift for a young reader in your life. It will make them laugh and they’ll wonder every time they see a cat whether or not they’re a member of the FFBI.

Special thanks to Deanna Kent, Neil Hooson, and Imprint Books for sending an ARC for my #bookexcursion group for read and review.

In this "meow-nificent" follow-up to Snazzy Cat Capers, classy and classic cat burglar Ophelia Von Hairball's Vegas vacation is cut short when an encrypted map is stolen from the Furry Feline Burglary Institute's (FFBI) secure vault.  If the map is deciphered, the three pieces of the Scarlet Claw, a powerful laser pointer will be found, which could threaten the lives of all cats.

Still "purr-furring" to work alone, Ophelia sets off to Cairo to locate the first piece of the Scarlet Claw. But time is of essence especially when Ophelia's unclassy and sloppy cousin Pierre, bitter about his second class ranking, schemes to thwart her successful mission, and the Central Canine Intelligence Agency (CCIA) is also on her tail. This forces Ophelia to reconsider having her inventor Oscar Fishgerald Gold as her "paw-rtner." for his disguises and gadgets are "fin-tastic"  Will Ophelia and Oscar be victorious in the FFBI's most important mission to date?

Sequels can be tough but The Fast and the Furriest is "purr-fection."  While the fast paced plot is action packed,  I especially love how Ophelia's and Oscar's "paw-rtnership" is evolving in the second book along with the addition of P.U.G., the robot dog created by Oscar.    A blend of graphic novel and illustrated chapter book, the unique format is cleverly drawn and appeals to both striving and thriving readers regardless of age.

Having enjoyed her first outing, I was pleased to see Ophelia von Hairball V of Bulgaria return with more snark and use her feline wiles to outsmart her nemeses. The Furry Feline Burglary Institute knows that Ophelia is smart and can solve mysteries as well as figure out how to steal something, if necessary. Thus, when an important artifact goes missing, she and her trustworthy inventor, Oscar, a goldfish, go into action. Oscar has created a robot to assist Ophelia. When Pierre, always a thorn in her side, gets involved, and Ophelia is just one step ahead of the Central Canine Intelligence Agency--yes, they're a bunch of dogs--it looks as though she's found her match and failed in her mission. But not this clever cat. Ophelia always has another trick up her sleeve. The delight in reading this book and series are the cat-related puns and Ophelia's distinctive voice, revealed on every page but also in the epigrams that introduce each chapter. Crime-fighting and sleuthing have never been quite so catty.

Snazzy Cat Capers is a book about Ophelia Von Hairball V and Oscar F. Gold going on a heist to steal back some dangerous items. The characters are great and their interactions are wonderful. It takes a bit to get to the main plot but once you do it's really interesting and the first bit is still compelling. One of my favorite parts is the fur-word (this book has a lot of puns like this) especially the last sentence “If you spot this snazzy cat on an exciting adventure, please let me know right away … because I was supposed to go with her!”. The pictures and mini comics are another thing I really enjoyed. This is a great book and I’m sure kids will enjoy it.

My 8.5 year old son just flew through the second book in the Snazzy Cat series. He really enjoyed it--it was almost purr-fect! While he may not enjoy puns as much as his 'meow'm does, he commented on how he enjoyed all the play on words in the book, including the title (and loves that the next one is called "Meow or Never"). His favourite parts were when Pierce got stuck in the elevator and the cats that hid the Scarlet Claw. He really enjoyed following along the CCIA and FFBI adventures and cheering on Ophelia, Oscar and Pug!

Oscar, and Ophelia on another heist. This heist is to steal the three parts of the Scarlet Claw before the CCIA gets them. Director MEW sends Ophelia out on the heist to get the pieces. One of the pieces is in Egypt, one in Canada, and one in New York City. Pierre, Ophelia's cousin, wants to get the Scarlet Claw before Ophelia, because he wants to possess all cats. But in the end Pierre fails and all the pieces are here's now. But the third piece she has had for many years and been hiding under her chair.

These books have such a fun set of characters that you’ll happily follow them on any adventure. I laugh every time I read one of Ophelia von Hairball V’s quotes are the start of the chapter and I find her juxtaposed with her assistant, Oscar the fish to be hilarious. This is once again a heist plot with many twists and turns. It is fast paced and the illustrations/comic strip pages break up the text for readers still gaining confidence. As a sequel it doesn’t disappoint.

Snazzy Cat Capers is back for book two! In The Fast and the Furriest, Ophelia and her inventor Oscar are traveling the world in search of pieces of a laser that can control all cats! This fun and exciting book is full of action, adventure, puns, and purr-fect illustrations. My students will pawsitively love trying to save cat-kind with Ophelia and Oscar.

Family read all three of these. We love them-read them together the first time around but now my daughter is re-reading them on her own. She also went to the author website and we downloaded drawing sheets. So fun.

Ophelia's one-liners never get old—neither do the other references that make the Snazzy Cat series so fun to read to kids!

A cute series about a cat spy agency (the FBI: Feline something-something) at war with a dog agency (the CIA: Canine something-something), starring a pampered yet lovable cat burglar. The humor is mostly puns of the sort suggested by the rival spy agencies’ names, which is more clever than groan-inducing. Also, each chapter starts with a fun quote from the heroine cat about making sure you’re always fabulously your best self, which is fun. As for the story itself, the drama is low stakes and it goes on too long, although children will probably be fine with both (mine were).
