Set in the very atmospheric and mysterious and even superstitious city of NOLA, The Devil's Isle series is one that is not only hard to resist, but hard to put down.
With supernatural creatures galore and magic and danger everywhere, it truly is something to take notice of.
I have enjoyed the wonderful mix of characters from the very beginning with their light hearted banter and witty snarky one liners, they really are a fun group of people set out to save each other and their beloved city.
With just the right amount of unwordly-ness, supernaturals, magic, mystery, and the right amount of romance, this series really is a diabolical combination of all the things I love not only about this genre but about Neill's writing in general.
And even though I haven't been able to find for sure if this is the last book in the series, I do know that it ended so nicely that if it was, I would be very happy with how it all came together and was resolved.

had such a great time with this book! I was really excited to get my hands on an early copy of this newest book in the Devil's Isle series. This is a series that really should be read in order since each book builds on previous installments. It has been just under two years since I read the previous book in this series and I have to admit it took me a bit to catch up with everything going on in Claire's world but once my memories started coming back, I was completely hooked.
Claire, Liam, and the rest of the gang are just trying to hold what they can together in their home of New Orleans. It was really nice to get the chance to catch up with characters that I have really grown to love over the course of the series. They have really grown individually and as a group and I love the way that they know that they can depend on each other. They are also just a lot of fun with some great banter and completely touching moments.
In this installment, the group is battling not only battling supernatural forces but there is also the small matter of a hurricane that threatens the city. Claire, along with a group of her friends, must go on a rather dangerous mission in order to get the tools needed to save the city and the people she cares about. It was really interesting to see the pieces come together as I worked my way through this story. I thought that there was a really nice balance of exciting action, romantic moments, and working on solutions.
I would recommend this book to others. This was a book that I didn't want to put down once I got started. I feel like I have been through a lot with this wonderful group of characters and wanted nothing more than to see them successfully deal with the situation they were in. I did think that this book felt a little more final than previous books but I am hoping we will get more of this exciting series in the future.

The Beyond was one of the reads that immediately sparked the desire to re-read Chloe Neill's entire Devil's Isle Series...and that is exactly what I did.
The fae have broken through the veil, now the outed sensitive, Claire and her companions must find a way to stop the war and devastation that they are bringing to the human realm the only problem seems the answer might be on the other side of the broken veil. Going there might drive her and the other humans insane. But without them, they may never convince the fae to turn over the relic that they need to survive.
As always, Chloe Neill pens a riveting, pulse intensifying adventure with genuine characters that I love to read about. Magic, mayhem and romance, what more could this avid reader wish for.

I won an ARC in a Goodreads Giveaway. Thanks to Berkley, Chloe Neill and Goodreads for this opportunity to read and provide an honest review. This is the fourth and last book in the series, but it worked for me as a standalone novel.
It is hot and muggy in New Orleans and the few residents left have been fighting another war for almost a year. The Veil between the paranormal world and the human world was torn apart and war is constant. Claire Connolly is a Sensitive. She, her boyfriend and their human and paranormal allies are fighting against invaders wanting to kill the humans and destroy most of New Orleans. A new enemy is loose and Claire has learned of a magical weapon built in the Beyond (paranormal world) that could end the war.
Chloe Neill managed to create wonderful characters, some of which had some difficult times in this novel. She managed to cover a variety of themes including strong powerful foes, cohesive teamwork, a utopian world, weather disasters, food shortages, power outages, magic, romance, a magical weapon, injuries, deaths, relationships and much more.
The book moved at a good clip. The descriptions of New Orleans and The Beyond were both very vivid and gave me an good sense of place. The ending was very satisfying and a good way to end the series.
I recommend this book to those that like the genre and I am looking forward to checking out this author's other series.

Chloe Neill returns with the fourth book in the Devil’s Isle series. I’ve been kind of going back and forth with this series. I really liked it at first, but then found some slow spots in some of the more recent installments in the series. For me, THE BEYOND was a bit of the same. I liked a lot of it, but also felt like many parts dragged, especially in the beginning. Instead of setting a fast pace, this book lingers a bit, but that could be the intention of the author so that there can be an interesting journey for the reader.
However, I felt like I was always waiting for things to happen with this book. It took me a while to read as a result and while I didn’t necessarily struggle through it, it did make me put it down a few times to try something else.
That being said, I liked the book, but perhaps this installment wasn’t my favorite of the series. Nevertheless, I am looking forward to seeing what is in store next.

Since this is the last book and I know many of you like to dive in once a series is complete and I will keep things vague.
Claire Connolly, a sensitive and her boyfriend, hunter Liam Quinn join forces with their human and paranormal allies to stop a new threat. A storm is coming to New Orleans ….
This was an exciting, non-stop installment as we see folks settling into this new version of New Orleans. Sensitives are learning to control their magic. Humans and paranormal are living side by side. A new paranormal threat emerges, and it is seeking revenge. When Claire and the others discover a weapon made in the veil, they seek a missing piece. This object may be the only thing that can save them.
Time spent inside the Veil was fascinating and beautifully described. The way it interacted with Claire and Liam’s abilities was intense. I am quite positive I would not want to live in their world. It left me imagining a government such as theirs. *shivers*
We see growth from Claire and movement in her relationship with Liam. While Neill kept the romance on the side, she gave us the closure we needed and some tender moments.
The overall series ARC wrapped up, and I liked how everything unfolded. Nothing felt forced and all the pieces snapped nicely into place. This review was originally posted at Caffeinated Reviewer

It's always a happy-sad moment when you come to the end of a series, and The Beyond, the final installment of the Devil's Isle series, is no exception. After living in New Orleans (and moving away a couple years ago), Devil's Isle has held a special place in my heart. Chloe Neill is also an author who does New Orleans right... even though Devil's Isle is somewhat post-magical apocalypse, Neill is spot on with her New Orleans layout and history. I have loved her re-imagining of New Orleans in this series.
In this final installment, Claire Connolly and her crew are working to wrap things up and save New Orleans once and for all. But not only does the team have to deal with evil faeries (the Seelies a/k/a Consularis), apathetic faeries (the Court), and also a huge hurricane (Hurricane Frieda) that is bearing down on the city. This will require all the team to come back together, and it was so nice seeing some characters who were missing from the last installment.
I also loved seeing the peek into The Beyond (Elysium or Faery). I am a huge fan of the fae stories and my favorite aspects are always the fantastical land. While we haven't see much of The Beyond in this series, I did enjoy the opportunity to see Malachi's homeland and watch him stand up to his former peers. How the Court has handled fae society following the former war was interesting, and offered a chance for some social commentary and allowed us to be judgy about how the took and/or failed to take. I thought Malachi handled the situation perfectly, and I'm still hoping to see a spinoff with his character (and maybe a love interest!).
Despite the magical mayhem bearing down on the city, Claire and Liam strengthened their relationship and, while not steamy, gave us a squeal-worthy moment or two. I have loved these two together throughout the series, but got a little disappointed with Liam in the last book, so I was so happy to see him stepping up in this last book. I was also happy to see Claire being more receptive to commitment and the future.
While I'm sad to see the series end, I thought everything was wrapped up quite nicely. I did think the battle was a tad bit rushed, and would have liked to see that a little more detailed and developed. But I liked that everyone had their part to play and got a little face time with the reader for the last book. I really hope we get a spinoff for this one (hint hint Chloe!).

The Beyond begins about seven months after the conclusion of the third book, The Hunt. The Veil remains open and the humans have a new understanding of magic, Paras, and the Beyond. Now that she doesn’t have to hide her magic, Claire, along with Moses, works to teach new Sensitives how to rid themselves of excess magic so they don’t become Wraiths. Life has been steady and mostly calm, until the day the Seelies attack Devil’s Isle and release a dangerous prisoner. The group is determined to destroy the humans that live in New Orleans and claim the land for themselves.
The whole gang (all the key characters from the previous books) is back together, and I appreciate how each plays their part in the story. Together they are New Orleans’s only hope for stopping the Seelies. They discover a theoretic Para weapon that may help, but one of the components is in the Beyond. I did find the discovery of this powerful weapon a bit convenient - why didn’t Malachi mention it in the eight years of war?! But regardless, I love how it afforded Claire (and therefore the reader) the opportunity to visit the Beyond and learn more about what caused the war in the first place.
While I didn’t know it before I picked up The Beyond, it is Claire’s final story - the end of the Devil’s Isle series. And a fitting conclusion it is. The book has the feel of a finale, and the author provides closure and hope for the future. As I mentioned, the gang’s all here, and each had a role to fill in saving their homeland. I like that they come together in meaningful ways and not just there as window dressing. The action is exciting and the downtimes provide opportunities for characters to mature and tie up interpersonal situations.
Narration: After reading the first three books, I opted for the audio for The Beyond. The experience comes with mixed results. I didn’t realize it until I heard the narrator speak her first male voice, but I’ve listened to her before (under a different name), and I had issues with her male characters that time as well. Unfortunately, most of her male characters sound like an adolescent boy in an animated show I watched years ago, so to me, they sound cartoonish and goofy. With that, I did like her voice for Claire, who shares the story in the first person narrative. Claire’s voice is pleasant and age appropriate, and Ms. Landon does a nice job injecting emotion into Claire’s thoughts and words. At first, I had a tough time distinguishing all the characters, but overtime I was able pick out the subtle differences between each character. By the end of the book, I grew used to the voices, but I was won over because something about most of the voices just didn’t work for me.
In the end, I enjoyed my time with Claire and in Devil’s Isle and find it a good UF series. The Beyond is a solid and fitting conclusion. The author kept plot moving and tied up loose ends, and readers even get an HEA.

It's been a year since the veil fell and New Orleans has completely changed, many of the survivors have left but those who remain are stubborn and determined to protect what's left of their city. The war has taken it's toll though and when a dangerous new enemy comes looking for revenge Claire and her friends are going to have to take huge risks to save the home that they love.
I'm really sad that The Beyond is the final book in this series, I've really enjoyed spending time in this world and getting to know the characters so I was honestly hoping that we'd get a few more books. Having said that I'm glad that it ended on a high note. Claire has grown a lot since the first book, she's much more confident now and has better control of her abilities. In fact she's no longer scared of her magic and instead has learnt to wield it with precision. She's also learnt to appreciate life, she celebrates the small things like spending time with friends and family and is very focused on protecting the people she loves. Her relationship with Liam is also going well, they've had their problems in the past but they're now much more secure in their love and are working really well together as a team.
I don't want to give away much of the plot but I will tell you that this is the first book that lets us take a peek at what is on the other side of the Veil which I really loved. There was a lot of action and we get to see all of our favourites fighting together for an excellent cause. I may be sad that the series has come to an end but I'm happy with the way things wrapped up, especially for Claire and Liam. I'm still going to hope that Chloe Neill decides to revisit this world in the future but in the meantime I'll look forward to more from the Heirs of Chicagoland!

I'm still going to hope that Chloe Neill decides to revisit this world in the future but in the meantime I'll look forward to more from the Heirs of Chicagoland!

An excellent conclusion to the series! I hadn’t realized going into it that this was the final book. A powerful enemy decides to get vengeance by destroying New Orleans. They discover that there is only one way to defeat the enemy and it involves a journey into the beyond, which has the potential to be dangerous for many reasons.
It was cool to finally see what it was like on the other side of the veil. Aside from the threat of the fae who lived there, the magic could do harm to Claire and Liam. Claire absorbs the magic and Liam fights off the desire to, so having lots of magic around them was dangerous.
Claire finally showed considerable growth as a character, which made me happy. It is unfortunate that the series is over because there were many good characters. Overall I liked the way everything was wrapped up.

This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.The Beyond by Chloe Neill is book 4 and the final book in the Devil's Isle series. We start off a few months from the ending of book 3 where a tear is created between the worlds that have unleashed more paranormals. The structure in New Orleans has changed and the Consularis paras have been released from Devil's Isle to help against the war with the Court of Dawn.
In The Beyond, Claire and Liam continue their relationship as the Seelies put their plan to tear down New Orleans into action. To stop them, Liam, Claire, Malachi, Rachel and Gavin must travel into the tear to retrieve a para piece that could help create a weapon.
The city, as well as the group take some pretty bad hits. I was wondering how much of New Orleans was going to be left before Claire and her friends could get an upper hand against the Seelies. Their plan, despite all that they endure to fulfill it, is not a sure thing. The final stand with the Seelies had me holding my breath, praying that their plan would work. They had to depend on it at a vital moment and things could easily go wrong.
I was really pleased with the progression of Claire and Liam's relationship in The Beyond. Especially with the way the series ended and the potential of what lay ahead for them so positive. I felt like there was growth in Claire which helped me deal with the impression I had of her as younger than I would normally read. I did feel bad for the character's losses so I was happy that she had developed relationships with so many and the group becomes like their own little family.
The Beyond was a really fun read that had my adrenaline going and trying to read fast in hopes that the group could save the city. There was so much devastation and the potential for totally wiping out the city was strong. I was really worried that Claire and friends were not going to make it or that their plan was not going to be effective.
The ending of the book and series was definitely satisfying. I will miss these characters and the relationship potentials that were left as just that, potentials. However, I did feel like Claire's personal issues were pretty well tied up. I was left feeling like I had been through a great adventure and was definitely happy with the ending.
They were tall, short. Dark, pale. Big, small. Old, young. Magic was the thing they had in common—their unique sensitivities to the power that had crept into our world from the Beyond, the world of Paras. One could freeze matter, one could call animals, and one could communicate telepathically.
Their powers were new, and they were untrained. I was here not to teach them how to use their magic, to make them better at freezing or calling, but to help them stay sane.
Once upon a time, the Veil—a ribbon of magic that separated the Beyond from the human world—had kept the magic on their side. Nearly eight years ago, the Paras tore it open, ravaging the southern U.S., including New Orleans. Sensitives had helped magically sew it shut again, even if a little power had seeped through the stitches. But humans, being humans, had made a very bad mistake, and it had been ripped apart again. This time, it left a mile-long gap, and magic and Paras had been streaming into our world ever since.
A few “lucky” humans could sense that power, use it. About seven percent of the population, as far as Containment could tell. But human bodies weren’t built for the burden of otherworldly energy. Too much magic warped bone and broke down muscle, turning Sensitives into skeletal wraiths whose only desire was the very magic that degraded them, even if they had to kill to get it. And there was no coming back from wraithdom.
I was teaching these Sensitives to find balance, to keep the right amount of magic spooled in their bodies. Enough to use if necessary, but not so much that it overwhelmed and broke them. This was the fourth group I’d trained since the Veil had been breached. Forty people who were willing to admit to their condition and get help for it. Probably not everyone affected. But I couldn’t make anyone face their demons. Even if that meant they’d face them as wraiths later.
We stood in the pulsing heat on a greenway in Devil’s Isle, the neighborhood-turned-prison-turned–neighborhood for Paranormals. It had been the Fabourg Marigny, had become a prison for all Paranormals, and now served as a prison for some and a refuge for others, because humans had acknowledged not all magic—and not all Paranormals—were evil. It was only after the Veil had been opened again that the former Paranormal Combatant Command, and its Containment unit that operated Devil’s Isle, had finally admitted there were two groups of Paranormals, and only one group was our enemy. The Court of Dawn led the war; they’d magically conscripted their enemies, the Consularis, to fight.
Containment had allowed the Consularis to leave Devil’s Isle if they’d wanted to, but kept the Court imprisoned. And as Court members slithered into our world again through the breach in the Veil, many of the freed Consularis Paras had stayed to fight. The PCC had become the Unified Combat Command, humans and Consularis Paras bound together to fight the Court of Dawn.
And fight we had. It was good they were still outside the perimeter that Containment had been able to establish around New Orleans. But that had been a matter of will as much as of strength. Cracks of magic and pops of ammunition rolled like thunder across the city, which was down to military personnel and the thousand or so hardy humans who’d refused to leave their homes. But we’d stay as long as we could. As long as we could hold New Orleans.

3.5 STARS
This installment seemed to be slower paced than the last two books. As always with Neill, I enjoyed the banter/humor of her characters and a strong female lead in Claire. She has continued to develop emotionally with each book, and I adored seeing her and Liam working together. I'm still uncertain if this is the finale, as there was no mention of it being the final book. Although it has a fitting end, I would love to see more from this world.

In THE BEYOND, things really come to a head, and it was one heck of a thrill ride. Everything in the Devil’s Isles series has been building up to this point for the ultimate battle. The stakes were incredibly high, and I enjoyed every moment. Crossing over the Veil added a new dimension to the world, and it was fascinating to see how their world was. Both Claire and I *almost* felt sorry for the paras that left there to escape, almost. But the amount of destruction they caused Earthside is inexcusable and she wasn’t afraid to sock it to them.
In the romance department, things are much better than in previous installments. I had expressed a good bit of frustration in my reviews of the prior books. But this time around things felt much more on track and less wishy-washy. Don’t get me wrong, things weren’t smooth sailing or roses for the pair, but the romance felt much more substantial this go around, which I very much appreciated.
All in all, THE BEYOND was a good finish to the Devil’s Isle series that I greatly enjoyed. Fans of the series will be pleased with this conclusion.

I always have a good time with this series and I was curious to get into this new volume. I had forgotten a lot of the events of the previous ones, so I didn’t really know exactly what to expect anymore.
We find all the characters we have enjoyed discovering so far, but here we are, the war is more and more present and this time, our heroes will have to face the Seelies attack whose powers could well surpass all they have faced.
I thought it was great that for once we see our heroes crossing the Veil we’ve heard so much about. We discover a new culture and population in a different world and it was quite fascinating. We also learn a little more about Claire and we will see her make big decisions, especially about what she wants with Liam. Gavin is also here for our greatest pleasure, as is Gunnar.
Our protagonists will be put to the test again, ready to do anything to save their city from total destruction and they will have to use everything they can to succeed!

Four stars: A turning point in the series. A thrilling story!
Claire is continuing to fight for her friends and the city she loves. New Orleans is in shambles after an eight year war with the paranormals. Claire has learned to not take anything to granted and to appreciate the simple things in life, from happy to reunions to chocolate and wine. Then trouble strikes when a group of powerful Seelies threaten the city and all who live there. The Seelies are the most powerful threat yet. To defeat this enemy, Claire and her friends must travel across the Veil to the land of Elysium to obtain a weapon that strips magic from paranormals. It is a tall task, but if they don’t succeed, the Seelies and a destructive hurricane might finish New Orleans once and for all. Can Claire save the city once again?
What I Liked:
*The Beyond got this series back on solid ground. I wasn’t a big fan of the last book as it was centered around romantic drama. This one is focused back on the Paranormals and their threat to New Orleans. I loved the action and danger and the quiet soul searching moments. This felt like a finale in the series, but I hope there is more.
*I liked that the romance finally finds its footing in this book. The relationship between Liam and Claire has been a tumultuous one to say the least. Finally, the two manage to get it right. It was thrilled to see the maturity finally shine through.
*Claire has gown and evolved throughout the series. I love this new, confident Claire. She wields her magic with accuracy, and is no longer afraid to be a Sensitive. She is fierce. I especially appreciated the quieter moments when Claire does some soul searching and makes some strong conclusions about her city, her friends and her relationships.
*There are some answers in this book. I appreciated finally having a better understanding of the Veil, the Paranormals and why they came through the Veil.
*The second half of the book was packed full of action. From the thrilling visit to the Beyond only to return to find a powerful hurricane barreling down on New Orleans. The finale exciting.
*The ending was just right. It felt like a finale to a series. I am not certain if there is more, but if this is the end, I think it ended in a good spot.
And The Not So Much:
*I was disappointed that characters like Solomon and Moses had only small roles. Not having this paranormal players involved in the plot made it feel like something was missing.
If this is the finale, I wish that there was a bit more on the aftermath, but I am still satisfied if it is the end.
*The Beyond was an exciting and thrilling read. I loved the action and the growth of the characters and their relationships. Plus, this book provided some long awaited answers to many questions. It has been an interesting journey, and all in all, this was an enjoyable series.

Chloe Neill’s Newest: Never Give-Up, Never Surrender

I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader’s copy of this book. No remuneration was exchanged and all opinions presented herein are my own except as noted.
I left my hometown at the first possible moment and hardly ever go back. But, my city was divorced from its past by the destruction of the downtown communities and I don’t know that there was anything physically, or, emotionally that I would fight for it’s survival. Granted, where I grew up wasn’t New Orleans.
The point is that Claire and her friends and family have been in a war with paranormal creatures who were supposed to exist “beyond the veil” but due to war and whatever the veil was ripped open and there was a a big war. In the war, some humans developed magical abilities which was previously cause for incarceration. The Veil was closed and at the beginning of this series the veil seems to have re-opened. With this story a vengeful corps of Seeli Fae want the destruction of NOLA to avenge the death of their leader’s sister.
But this story is really about loyalties: to family, to justice to fair play, to one’s society, to an ideal. Why do Claire, Liam and others who are not part of the military nor the captured, and incarcerated paranormals, stay in the endangered, and dangerous, city of New Orleans? The rest of the country outside Louisiana is untouched. I have asked myself this in the first three volumes of the series.
There are a lot of reasons and the book, aside from being an exciting and suspenseful story, explores why people do things that may not seem rational but are nevertheless what they choose to do. I enjoyed how Chloe brings these ideas to mind.
Amy Landon’s narration gets a mixed review. There’s a forced sultriness and strange cadence that, to me, makes it sound like Claire is trying to seduce the reader but not with the author’s story or words but with the narrator’s intent. (This is why it is 4 stars vs 5)
The series is good, and this is the fourth book so you want to start at the beginning.
BTW: As I wrote this I was exhausted having participated in my first archeological dig today. If there are errors I have to chalk it up to being wiped out.

I love this author and I have loved this Devil's Isle series from the start. Somehow, this is an audio series for me. The world and the character of Claire are something special. Claire is mature; she's had to be, since she is on her own. Her skills and practical nature reflect her upbringing.
At the end of The Hunt, I expected war. Claire had also just reunited with Liam. I wasn't sure what to expect in The Beyond. Well the title and blurb tells me, but I didn't realize it. The whole team has been preparing, improving their magic skills. The paras and humans are working together better. When a new offensive happens, much of Louisiana evacuates. But our group of friends stays and joins the fight.
Claire ends up coming to terms with many things. She sorts out her feelings for her biological mother, for Liam and whether she will stay and fight. The whole group gets a big taste of the other side when they go into the Beyond. I won't spoil all the reasons and what happens. The Beyond (place) is not what I expected. It's not what Claire expected either.
Liam seemed like he was in the background even when he was there. Gavin was much more active in the story and spouting off with his jokes and teasing. Many of the characters from the series made an appearance. But those most active were Claire, Liam, Gavin, and Malachi. Liam and Claire do have a few things to sort out as they go along.
The series overall has aspects of social castes and prejudice. There are also the issues of politics, political power and those who only care about their own power or wealth. Huh - that sounds normal. There is plenty to think about here. There are also battles and action, problem-solving and strategy, with a touch of romance, which make it exciting! The appearance of many favorites is a treat in this great ending for the series.

Amy Landon is a narrator I enjoy and she is Claire for me. I really enjoy her varied voices particularly the female ones. I like the male vocals for Gavin, Moses and Gunnar, especially. In the last book, Liam sounded different and also in this one. I was able to listen at my usual 1.5x speed.

It's been a year since the previous book 'The Hunt,' Claire is teaching sensitives how to handle magic and while some things are better, others have gotten worse. The Seelie have gone on attack and are determined to kill all the humans and 'salt' the earth, driving Claire and her friends a weapon to end the threat.
They discover a potential weapon, but they need a crucial piece from inside the Veil. Malachi, Liam, Claire, Rachel, and Gavin head into the Veil to retrieve what they need and we discover not all is paradise in Elysium.
I had mixed feelings about this book that appears to wrap up this series. I loved Malachi and Rachel stepping up, they and Moses were highlights for me. Gavin's juvenile behavior and jokes went from funny to annoying and I was happy Rachel and Liam finally got things sorted but they had to annoy me as well before they got to their happy place. The ending pulled at my heartstrings and I have to say Moses and Malachi stole the limelight and I enjoyed them immensely

I really enjoyed this last book in this series - it's a shame it has ended, as I would love to read more about how Claire and Liam adapt to life after the events in this book.
Life in New Orleans is far from easy, but things are soon to become much much worse. Not only have the Court broken out one of their own from the Devil's Isle vowing revenge as they do so, but a very strong hurricane is also on the path to NOLA. It's hard enough having to deal with one huge problem they can't control, but two?

You and I both know, nothing will ever be as easy as it sounds!
This series has been a great read - full of action, magic, tension and a touch of romance too. It definitely showed how love and family can conquer anything thrown in their path. It is one of those series that you do need to read from the beginning though as each book leads onto the next one. A highly recommended series from one of my favourite authors!
Life in New Orleans is far from easy, but things are soon to become much much worse. Not only have the Court broken out one of their own from the Devil's Isle vowing revenge as they do so, but a very strong hurricane is also on the path to NOLA. It's hard enough having to deal with one huge problem they can't control, but two?

The Beyond is the last book in the series and quite frankly I was absolutely not disappointed. We find all the elements that make up the quality of Chloe Neill's stories.
The danger is imminent, between the storm and the faes no one knows where to turn and unfortunately it will be necessary to make difficult decisions.
Claire is an independent, strong person who wants to protect her city and the people she loves at all costs. I really like her personality; in this book she asks herself a lot of questions about herself, about her future and about her relationship with Liam. I appreciated seeing her looking for herself in this volume, she is not perfect and especially her fears have resurfaced.
Liam tries to protect everyone; he also tries to learn to live with his powers. I love this man, he is tender, passionate, a little stubborn but he knows what he wants.
We see a lot of Malachi in this volume and I must admit that I also like him. Just like Gunnar.
The story ends and it is with a little pinch in my heart that I say goodbye to all these characters that I loved and with whom I enjoyed spending time.

This book took me awhile to really get into. I actually started it and put it down several times, which is why I gave it a 3 star rating.
On the plus side, it picks up half way through. We finally get some action.
The end result of the book wrapped up pretty quick but it was satisfying.
I’ll definitely read the next in the series.

I enjoyed this one more than the last. I actually LOVED the resolution. Micah was getting on my last nerve and I don't know if it was the reader's intonation for him or if it was his character but I lean to the former. It is hard to do so many voices :D and the one she chose for him from the beginning was fine since he was a very small part of the story . . . but here he is a much larger part. The reader may also have been frustrated with her choice. But, she stuck with it!

Chloe Neill brings the heart-pounding Devil’s Isle series to a close with The Beyond! Everything is about to change for Claire and her friends and New Orleans will never be the same again. Things were really intense to this one as the chaos that is New Orleans is about to get even more chaotic. I have to say Chloe did an amazing job with this series and I feel heartfelt over how things were brought to a conclusion.
The story takes off after a seelie escapes from prison and joins together with others of her kind to wreak havoc on New Orleans and the humans who live there for the crimes committed against her sister. In order to save the city that she loves, Claire and her friends will have to journey to the Beyond, the place where paranormals live, if not in NOLA, in order to find a magical artifact that could help them defeat the seelies, but it isn’t going to be easy. As if anything about Claire’s journey has been easy so far.
Not only will Claire have to overcome the physical challenges that this journey will bring and the battle to come, but there is also a lot of emotional challenges that will have to be faced as well. The Beyond is a well-rounded book in that kind of way as Claire continues to grow into a remarkable heroine.
With the two year gap between books publishing, I’ll admit it was harder than usual to get back into the swing of things but luckily we had a nice bit of a recap with Claire at the helm of this story, so it was fairly easy getting back into the swing of things if I didn’t force other memories to come up. What I realized that I missed most were my memories of these characters. It was easy to fall back in love with all of them, I just wished my memory was better so I could remember why I always loved them.
Naturally, the story wouldn’t be complete without a little romance. Claire and Liam have had a lot of ups and downs over the course of this series and their relationship. And even though we’ve reached the end, that’s not to say that everything is going to be peachy for them. I was happy that their times of struggles wasn’t as long as before, because, hey, it’s the end of the series! Let’s see a little bit of happy time! Lol. Needless to say that there was plenty of happy moments amidst the chaos and of course, a few stolen kisses too.
The pacing to this one was ideal! There was a nice round of buildup going on, the searching for the magical artifact and then of course the action packed battle to end all battles. I think I struggled the most in the beginning as I tried to get familiar with the series again along with the world as Claire and Co. know it and the characters themselves, plus the high points of the last book’s events. After that rough start, it was smooth sailing.
I have always loved Chloe Neill’s characters, they are very real, and yes that includes her vampires and otherworldly folk too! They’re just so relatable, even if the problems aren’t quite the same as real world problems. They’re close though, just an added dose of magic is the only difference! And that’s partly why I love Urban Fantasy books so much, it’s a nice blend of reality and fantasy to make for a great escape from reality but never leaving it too far behind.
Chloe Neill is without a doubt one of my all-time favorite authors! If you haven’t read her books yet, I highly recommend them! The Beyond is the end to one series that will have you looking at the city of New Orleans a little differently, but in a good way. I cannot wait to see what Chloe will write in the future.
