This classic whodunit boasts a new cast of a self-centered magician, a compulsive gambler, a sweet cat wrangler and her grandmother, a caring nurse, and a wealthy couple. How are their lives intertwined with a show cat named Abra? In 2009, two Siamese cats performed in Magic Harry’s Hocus-Pocus show, in front of hundreds of devoted fans. But their lives were far from magical, and their careers were cut short when Abra was stolen backstage after a performance. Why did the magician increase the insurance on Abra days before she disappeared? Was Abra stolen and sold on the black market? Or did anonymous cat-lovers rescue her from an abusive situation? A wealthy tycoon wants a Siamese cat with a specific look for his dying wife. Why? Four years later, Abra ends up in an animal shelter. Where had she been during this time? Back in Erie, Indiana, Katherine and Jake work on borrowed time to piece the puzzle together before Magic Harry tries to take Abra away from them.
The Cats that Stopped the Magic (The Cats that series, book 9) by Karen Anne Golden
This isn't really a full length novel, more either a long short story or a short novella. Unlike the other books in the series, which center on Katz and her friends and, of course, "the cats that," this story is the back story of Abra, the sister of Scout (formerly Cadabra), and what happened to her during her stint as magic cat with the magician, Magic Harry, and after her abduction up to the time she was given to Katz. It's a great read, with it's own set of plots and subplots, danger and action, but as it is all in her past, one really isn't concerned for Abra as we know she is now safe, sound, healthy, and happy. But the book is well written, expertly edited and proofread, and it gives the readers some answers to questions not addressed in former books in the series.
The Cats that... series is wonderful and this book is a great addition. In it we get a lot of Abra's backstory and learn more about Magic Harry.
Abra and Cadabra were Siamese sisters who were performers in Magic Harry's magic show; however, he wasn't a good owner putting his act over the health and safety of the cats. He plans a new act using Abra that could be extremely dangerous for her; in addition, he increases the life insurance policy that he has on her. Then shortly before the day of the act, Abra disappears.
Now we've learned what became of Abra before she came to live with Katz. This is a great story and I highly recommend it.
Have you ever had a day, or several days, when you just needed a lift? This book, “The Cats that Stopped the Magic” came just when I really needed it! I had been under a lot of time pressure and had just finished two very heavy murder mysteries. Don’t get me wrong! I love all kinds of mysteries! This time my spirit was really dragging. I saw Karen Anne Golden’s Book advertised. I have read all the other books in the series and had not realized this one was coming out. I grabbed it! For the last 2-3 days I have been in heavenly bliss reading, and laughing, all the way through Book 9!
If you are a cat person, then this is the series for you. You will love meeting and getting to know the Characters of the series. In this book, you'll get the back ground story of A bra and Scout. There will be feeling of anger, relief and even sadness when you discover what these girls have gone through. I have read the whole series and can tell you that you so t be disappointed.
I have read every one of the books in this series and I've loved every one! I know I'm a "cat's person (dogs too) but the stories are really enjoyable. Karen Ann Golden is able to write a darn good book while also making the cat's behaviours believable. I have a 20 year old Siamese male and I can see some of his personality in the actions of Katz's cats. Read the books! They are all good.
I loved finding out after all these books the story about Abra. It was very touching and although there was a little sadness, Abra brought all of the good out with her story. This book was very different from the rest of the series but it seemed to pull everything together. This is such a wonderful series and I am looking forward to reading the next book.
The Cats are back. This is book 9 in the series. Ms. Golden has done it again. Magic, Mystery, and much more. She takes us back to the time when two of them were performing. That would be Abra and Cadabra. Now living with Katz and Jake Cokenberger. So hang on to your seats for a ride you won’t forget.
It’s a must read. Twists and turns. It will grab your heart when your done.
No murders, but lots of mysteries abound in this latest addition. We finally find out what happened to poor Abra during her missing years. While reading I dealt with so many emotions- anger, outrage, happiness, sadness, surprise, & love. I love the way so many of the single threads wound together at the end. This was a great story!
The Cat that Stopped the Magic is a wonderful quick story. Unlike the earlier books in the series this is not a murder mystery and deals with the siamese Abra and what happened when she was stolen and disappeared for four years. I really enjoyed the story and loved her interim owner before she was adopted by the series main characters Katz and Jake.
I enjoyed this short story very much. Was interesting about how Scout and Abra came to be with their present day fur baby's mom, Katz. Had a very happy ending and I truly was entertained with this look into the past. Can't wait for the next kitty mystery!!!
I love this series. I have read all the books so far. I wish the books would be longer ! I love the mysteries that unfolds in each book. Katz, Jake, and of course the Siamese cats. If you haven't read this series I highly recommend that you do!! You won't be disappointed!!! Can't wait for the next book, looks like another must read!
I enjoyed this story of a n adventure though the many different stages of the people involved in the magic of this story. As a cat owner I know that life a cat to guide you is always an adventure! This is the first book I have read of the author's, but not the last!
I really enjoy reading "The Cats That" series. They are fast paced cozy mysteries set in Erie, Indiana. Each book can be read as a standalone, but best read in order.
Great story about Katz and Jake's show cats. Nice to know the background of how the cats came to be in the places they were found. Nice to know they are in a better place.
I thouroly enjoyed reading about the adventures of how Scout and Abra started out with the magician. It was really quite an interesting story. Always wondering what twist and turn will be in the story to come. Can't wait for the next book.
Not having read any of this series before, I got a little confused with what was present day & what was past in the beginning story lines. The ending was good & I feel like I should pick up some of the other bits of this series.
I have always thought my Siamese cats to be a bit persnickety but this book has been a great break from that notion. I was amazed at their abilities shown 0in this book. A refreshing read!
Great ending thank goodness glad the sisters are back together. Wish I could take care of a cat but it couldn’t be a beautiful loud Siamese where I live.
Absolutely wonderful, feel good book. It was so good I hated to put it down. Will read it again. Loved it. We have two rescue indoor cats and feed up to 12 ferals in our back yard.
This book is part of a mystery series, but there's no real mystery. Instead, it is the back story of 2 of the cats. Interesting, but not as good as others in the series.
This book took a while to get into, it was about 1/3rd of the way through before it started to get to the point where you suddenly found yourself unable to lay it down.
Great storyline Love the characters Cats are fantastic, full of mischief and create chaos wherever they go Sad at times in the story Keep going with the books Loved it
