Experience the tongue-in-cheek action adventure sensation that Newsarama called "some of the wittiest comic dialog ?in a long time." He's Alex Martin, the down-on-his-luck actor whose star is rising thanks to a roadside rescue caught on tape. She's Rachel Dodd, the bodyguard assigned to keep him alive after several mysterious attempts on his life. Will Rachel be able to keep Alex alive long enough to get to the bottom of the attacks on the actor? Will Alex be able to keep his hair perfect the entire time? Andrew Cosby (SyFy's Eureka, X Isle) and Kevin Church (Cthulhu Tales, What Were They Thinking?!?) team up with artists Mateus Santolouco, R.M. Yankovicz and others to tell the story of two people that are trying to stay alive now, if only to kill each other later. Collecting all five issues.
Challenger Deep wasn't as bad as I had anticipated. In fact, I rather enjoyed it. The art wasn't bad, but it was very generic and unimpressive. The best art was actually that which required minimal detail and lacked characters. The story was pretty cool but could have been far more elaborate. The story line is a petty unique concept, like a combination of Crimson Tide and Poseidon. However, some aspects of the story were confusing as hell, especially when multiple characters are difficult to differentiate from.
Overall, well worth the few bucks I spent.. And as a quick read it kept me entertained.
Rounding up. Should be 2.5 stars. An entertaining premise. Not the greatest artwork; often hard to distinguish characters. A fast read, but actually could have been expanded to make characters and situations less cliched. A good ending, but overall mostly forgettable.
