Man Enough #4

Only With You

Rate this book
The men in Nicole McLaughlin’s Man Enough series are tough Alphas devoted to serving their country and the women who love them.

National Guardsman Aiden King has been attracted to Hannah Walters for a while, but he never made a move because of her close relationship with his best friend. But when circumstances change, Aiden is surprised when his friend gives his blessing. Problem is, there’s a reason he’s still alone after all these years, and as much as he wants her, that secret keeps him from acting on his desires.

Hannah has finally decided to wait for the kind of love you read about in books and see in movies. After her failed engagement, Aiden’s unassuming support has become a touchstone for Hannah. It soon becomes apparent that he may be exactly the kind of man she’s been looking for. But the closer they become, the more he keeps her at arm’s length.

When Aiden suggests a road trip to take Hannah’s mind off her troubles, the two of them go on a journey neither one expected. She just hopes that the final destination is them together for good.

Only With You by Nicole McLaughlin is the fourth book in the contemporary romance Man Enough series. Each book in this series features a different couple so they all can be read fine as a standalone but there could be mentions of previous characters for those following the series.

Hannah Walters has had to sit back and watch her best friend, Jase Beckford, fall in love with Hannah's twin sister. While Hannah didn't feel that way for Jase she does feel the loss of having the close friendship they once had and after also breaking off her engagement Hannah vows to hold out for the perfect man for her.

Aiden King serves with Jase so the two are very close friends and while he's always had a bit of a crush on Hannah he never acted upon it with Jase being so close to Hannah. Now that it's clear Jase and Hannah are not going to take their friendship to another level Aiden vows to get the courage to see if there's anything there with Hannah but Aiden has secrets from his past he needs to deal with first.

Only With You was a rather sweet romance with a lot of emotional content to pull at a reader's heartstrings. Aiden and Hannah seemed to really work well together and just seemed to be exactly what the other needed at this moment in their lives. While there was some steamier content the author also infused those moments with emotion from her characters to the point you could really just feel it while reading. Definitely a nice addition to the series.

Favorite Quotes:

Talk about good guys. Jase’s fellow National Guardsman and close friend was like a unicorn of men: kind, quiet, gentlemanly… he was handsome— in that bearded wilderness-man kind of way. He was also big and buff and could probably pick her up with his pinkie finger. As big as he was, did that mean . . . And just like that her mind went to a naughty place.

I hate the thought that maybe I’m not capable of the necessary feelings to be someone’s forever person. I mean, is that something you learn? Because if so I was obviously busy focusing on kissing when I should have been paying attention.

At the end of the day, I’m just an absolute hypocrite because I want to do what I want, when I want it, without anyone’s input. But I also want someone to do what I want with me, because who wants to do anything fun alone? And kissing. I miss kissing, Dad. Although we both know I’m using the word kissing, but I really… Sorry. Didn’t mean for that to get weird.

“This place has the worst name,” she said before they got out of the truck at Smokin’ D’s. “Sounds like a bra set on fire.”

My Review:

Although the premise and back-story were truly heartbreaking, Ms. McLaughlin provided engaging storylines with humorous observations and intriguing and enticing tidbits that kept the emotional tone well-balanced and easy to read. The traumatic issues suffered by the characters are sadly relevant in our world and resulting problems were realistically put forward in a humanizing and admirable manner. I applaud and covet Ms. McLaughlin’s agile word skills. I adored these endearing and quirky characters; they squeezed my heart while also providing me with a near constant smirk. More, please.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. The story description drew me in and it is as described. Having said that, the story could have been better if it had started at the 50% mark, and use that space to really explore the subject matter. This story was disjointed and it felt like there were too many sub plots with characters that added zero value to the storyline. I wanted to know more about Aiden and his mother, more Hannah and Aiden but it just never got the momentum it needed.

Only with You was an amazing read packed full of emotion with fantastic characters and a relationship I couldn’t help but root for.

After her recently failed engagement, Hannah Walters has decided to focus on herself and put love on hold for the time being. However when she finds herself unexpectedly growing closer to Aiden King, Hannah can’t help but think Aiden is the type of man she has waited for her entire life. Aiden has always been attracted to Hannah but due to events from his past he never made his move. As the two get closer, Aiden finds it difficult to keep Hannah at arm’s length. During a spur of the moment road trip, Hannah and Aiden find themselves faced with a choice in terms of where their relationship is headed. Back to a casual acquaintance? Or to happily ever after?

Hannah has always been an outspoken person and has no qualms voicing her opinion even when it’s something others would rather not hear. Hannah spent her whole life in the shadow of her perfect twin sister Becca and their relationship was never a close one as a result. Hannah feels that because she is in her thirties and has yet to find love, that there must be something wrong with her. I connected with Hannah very easily as a lot of the insecurities she has are ones I myself have experienced. Hannah has a love of estate sales that she calls her addiction which I found charming.

Aiden is a bit of a mystery at first as he’s not one to talk much and is even more tight-lipped when it comes to his past. Aiden had a rough childhood and while I won’t get into details due to spoilers, there are some dark topics in his past. Due to his past, Aiden hasn’t had many relationships but after learning his history, I can understand why he kept himself closed off. As a means to escape his past, Aiden joined the Army and became a sniper. Now Aiden runs a bar he owns while also serving in the National Guard.

Hannah and Aiden’s relationship begins as a friendship that ultimately becomes more which is one of my favorite tropes. I really enjoyed the time spent on the building of their friendship as it gave them a good foundation to grow their relationship. Hannah manages to get Aiden to open up quite a bit and their conversations tend to be flirty and full of banter. Due to Aiden’s issues, their relationship isn’t an easy one and strayed towards the type of relationships I don’t usually enjoy but I found myself loving between Hannah and Aiden.

Only with You was the first book I’ve read by Nicole McLaughlin and it definitely won’t be the last. I’m looking forward to reading more from her in the future and I highly recommend this book to fans of character driven romances.

She was unsure she will ever find love. He has been brutally damaged by his past. They have known each other for a while, as friends of friends, but now they have found their own tentative friendship.

ONLY WITH YOU by Nicole McLaughlin touches on some extreme issues that by themselves could damage a person, in this case, Aiden, a former sniper, now a bar owner. Hannah is a bit nosey, yet well-meaning and her attempts to get to know Aiden better come from the heart, but is he ready to open up to her?

Sometimes the road to love isn’t a straight shot, and the landmines can be devastating if trust isn’t built. Do these two have what it takes to deal with her insecurities and his haunting nightmares?

I had a hard time connecting with Hannah and what was called her "direct approach." Aiden was certainly tight-lipped about his issues and has created his own self-imposed barriers. Yet, as truly serious as his issues were, and for all of the highly emotionally charged landmines throughout this romance, I just felt they were treated on the surface, only.

A quick read with a huge potential for great depth that just missed that soul-deep mark for me. Definitely a great beach read, though with just enough real romance to feel good about as two people finally learn to relate to another.

Only With You by Nicole Laughlin

First, be assured it’s a gorgeous contemporary romance.
But dealing with the after effects of sexual abuse can be heartbreaking.
The hero here, Aiden, is so heartbreakingly hurt. Beyond the full range of issues, he thinks he doesn’t deserve her. “Him wanting her like he’d never wanted anything in his life, and yet still too terrified to do anything about it.” A quote from the book sums up the situation yet that’s not going to work for Hannah. She’ll be strong enough to help him deal with whatever is needed even though it’s so difficult. But he needs to trust her and open himself up.
An emotional few scenes such as meeting his mother for the first time in many years made this book deeply touching.

The truest part is the non-immediate resolution yet that also makes me love this romance so much more. I know this couple will work together through good and bad for the long term happily ever after.

Two and a half stars.

We first met Hannah Walters as Becca's bitchy twin sister in Should've Been You who strung Jase along. In this book she's had a bit of a rewrite, he was just her BFF, the only one who supported her (Becca was the perfect twin and Hannah the screw-up) and would call her out on her BS. She was briefly engaged before realising he wasn't the one and has now decided to try to find herself rather than rely on a man to define her. She's also realised that she has never travelled, even to nearby cities and has become very insular.

Aiden King is a friend to the male leads in this series, all of whom are reserve National Guardsman. Once a month they each go on duty and it has become a ritual that the gang meet up the night before and Aiden cooks them all a meal. One night Aiden and Hannah end up talking alone, well Hannah talks and Aiden listens. Hannah doesn't realise that Aiden has had a crush on her for a long time that he has never acted upon while she was semi-dating Jase. After their chat they start texting each other and Hannah comes to his bar for dinner one night. They become closer as friends, but (as always) there is a secret that could come between them.

Warning - this book contains issues that may be triggers for some.

I enjoyed the previous book in this series but I have to say (regrettably) I didn't like this one. I found it overly melodramatic in phases, I got over one third of the way through the book without anything really happening, Aiden had practically the full house of angst (he only needed to have lost a limb to make it complete TBH), he was by turns condescending and a wimp and Hannah was a self-absorbed, selfish woman who thought something that a man would have been crucified for. Aiden overcomes all of his problems basically by just deciding to, they fall in love for no apparent reason. The book was also short, 150 pages is more novella than novel, and I felt that a serious issue was trivialised and just swept under the carpet rather than being addressed with sensitivity.

Overall, I can sum up my feelings by saying I didn't like either character. In fact I made a note on my kindle that I wanted to throat-punch Hannah at one point!

Aiden King is a thirty something bar owner and cook. He is a former army sniper, now National Guard Reserve. Aiden is close with his guard unit, meeting up Friday before drill weekend and cooking dinner for everyone. He has harbored a crush on Hannah for over a year, but because of her relationship with Jase, one of his best friends, and his own history, he’s never made a move.

Hannah Walters has no filter. What she thinks she says and what she wants to know she asks. I found her self-centered, demanding, pushy and obnoxious.

Lots of internal dialogue and angst. I found it completely unbelievable that Aiden was so easily able to overcome his history by himself. I didn’t see what connected these two or what attracted them to each other beyond physical attributes. And I felt like the story dragged on for too long and it’s only 150 pages! Probable triggers.

The second book with Hannah Walters. In the last book her twin sister ends up with the guy who they had grown up with. In this one she is focused on Aiden King who she thinks likes her but has not come out and said so. She enjoys being around him and he is easy to talk to. Aiden wants to be with Hannah but when he tries something inside of him stops short. When his grandmother passes away and he ends up finding his mother he thinks this will help but it does not and as Hannah who is trying to be patient with him is falling for him she cannot wait around for him when she begins to make the next step and he shuts her down. Frustrated and confused she tells him that he needs to work out what is going on with him and come to her when he is ready, she will wait but not for ever. Now he must chose weather to fix himself or let her walk out of his life forever. Read this book and see what happens. I received this book from Netgalley.com I gave it 4 stars. ONLY WITH YOU: A Man Enough Romance #4 by Nicole McLaughlin can be easily read as a standalone. A bonus to reading each book in the Man Enough Romance series is getting updates on the other characters.
National Guardsman Aiden King has been attracted to Hannah Walters for awhile, but never made a "move" because he knew that she and his buddy Jase Beckford were best friends and always hanging out. Now that Jase is seriously dating Hannah's sister, and has given Aiden the "green light" to act on his feelings for Hannah, the only obstacle is his secret.
Will Aiden take a chance on Hannah?
Will he share his secret?
Is there love in the air?

He was also big and buff and could probably pick her up with his pinkie finger. As big as he was, did that mean . . . And just like that her mind went to a naughty place.

This is a book that can be read as a stand alone, however its alway nicer to read the full series to get a much fuller idea of the characters you are reading about.

Hannah has been in previous books and in the previous one she found her best friend and her sister got together and she got engaged and broke it off two months later. Now she is on a voyage of discovery to find out who she is with a man embargo, however one of Jaces friends Aiden also stirs her fancy.

Aiden is the quiet gentleman, however he has had a disturbed past. A young teenage mother that left him with his grandparents when he was young along with another harrowing experience that has left lasting affects on him.

Hannah is a stubborn woman and goes for what she wants and after a short time she realises that it is Aiden that she wants. She just has to coax out his words and emotions. However after a painful road trip it is only time apart that gives them the ammunition they need to try the relationship for real and to both go for what they want.

This book had me in tears a few times and could be a trigger with some in regards to sexual abuse.

In January, I reviewed Should’ve Been You by Nicole McLaughlin (you can read that review here). While it was a novella that I felt could have easily (and probably should) have been a full-length novel, it did introduce me to McLaughlin’s writing and the Man Enough series. Only with You proves that my intuition in wanting to follow up with this author and series was right on the money.

Hannah was the sister in Should’ve Been You who inadvertently kept Jase and Becca from each other over the years, yet, by the time the novella ended, I felt a lot of sympathy for Hannah.

I had such a hard time getting into this book. I started it several weeks ago, would read a few pages, and then go to the next book on my list. But then it came time to read Only With You, so I put my head down and forged on.

The thing is, it’s hard to have interest in a book if you know you don’t like one of the main characters. And Hannah, who is the twin sister of the heroine from Should’ve Been You (Man Enough #3), was not a likable character. She came off as shallow, selfish, petty, and immature. In this book she’s whiny, lamenting how she broke up with her fiancé, which she knows is the right thing, but she’s also a little jealous that the guy she’s been best friends with for years is now dating her twin sister - sort of a toddler with a toy type situation (you know, I didn’t really want to play with the toy, but now that you’re playing with it, I want it). These are not appealing character traits for a 30 year old woman. So I trudged through the first several chapters, mostly rolling my eyes at Hannah’s thoughts and conversations.

Then several chapters in we get to know Aiden. And Aiden is just one of those big teddy bear type men you just want to hug and make everything all better for him. You can see the pain and heartache he harbors deep inside, and want to do anything you can to help him.

And as Aiden and Hannah danced around each other, Hannah slowly became more likeable. She grew up, started thinking more about someone else, and became what Aiden needed her to be.

Not that Hannah really knew all his baggage going in. And he has a trainload full. It was heartbreaking. But she was very much the yin to his yang. She was bubbly and talkative to his quiet and withdrawn. He had serious, deep issues to work through, and where everyone else in his life knew something was off, they were willing to leave him be. Hannah was like a dog after a bone getting him to talk, and watching her help him work through his issues was equal parts heartwarming and heartbreaking. They were an adorable couple, and watching them both grow was endearing and compelling.

This book put my heart through the wringer. I love that the author didn’t end with everything all rainbows and butterflies. She made it clear they were still working together for Aiden to heal, and that it would be a long and continual process that would be hard fought. I love a good happy-ever-after-everything-is-all-better-now ending as much as the next romance reader, but sometimes that isn’t how life goes. But if you’re lucky, you’ll find someone who loves all your ugly and will be by your side to work through it. There’s nothing more beautiful than that.

TRIGGER WARNING!: sexual abuse

I'm also going to be talking a bit about how this topic was handled in my review, so if that's a trigger for you, perhaps stop reading now.

Still with me? Good.

This is definitely not a light-hearted fluff read. One of the characters is dealing with some major trauma in their past, and there are some situations that set off flashbacks (that don't go into detail) but the book does describe the character's thoughts and feelings about the past abuse while alluding to what happened without ever really spelling it out or going deep into detail. I really, REALLY appreciated that the character continues to deal with the fallout of this abuse even after meeting "the one." I feel like a lot of times books and stories about abuse and rape survivors have them magically move on once they find "the one," like their love instantly heals them. Only With You is not one of those books, and instead shows the struggle for an abuse survivor to connect in a physical way with a romantic partner, as well as how hard it can be for the partner/spouse of an abuse survivor to deal with everything happening (hurting for the person you love, the struggle to not feel rejected when they need some space, encouraging them to get help). McLaughlin addresses this really, REALLY tough issue in a way that's real - which means it's not very pretty, but REST ASSURED! This romance has a HEA, ok?

While this was definitely heavier than my usual romance reads, it was so well written that I couldn't put it down. I love Aiden and Hannah, and how he is so quiet and she's so chatty, and they click together like puzzle pieces instead of struggling with that. I also love me a man who can cook! It lost half a star for some of Hannah's creepy behavior ("You like girls, right? Are you bi?") which she immediately realizes is not OK but just didn't need to be there. The descriptions and relationships between Hannah and Aiden and their friends and families are so complex and multi-faceted, they all felt like real people to me. I found myself caring a lot about what happens to all the characters in this book, and definitely need to go back and read the first books in the series.

This is the fourth book in the Man Enough series, and it's got some spoilers for a previous book that deal with Hannah's best friend Jase and her sister Becca as the MCs. It can absolutely be read as a stand alone though, as it covers enough of that situation to catch the reader up.

I truly enjoyed loved reading Only With You by Nicole McLaughlin, book four in her Man Enough Romance series, a friends to lovers story. This wonderful story is filled with the sexual attraction, misunderstandings, and difficult secrets. Outgoing Hannah is at odds with herself since her twin sister is now engaged to her best friend and she broke up with her fiancé. She decided the time had come for to wait for the kind of love you read about in books and see in movies. National Guardsman Aiden has been attracted to Hannah for a while. Aiden has been alone a long time for a reason but a secret from his past keeps him from acting on his desires, no matter how much he wants her. When Aiden suggests a road trip to take Hannah’s mind off her troubles, the two of them go on a journey neither one expected. She just hopes that the final destination is them together for good. I loved how Hannah tried to figure out the quiet Aiden and what demons were causing him to keep her at arm’s length. Hannah was a more caring and compassionate person than she was portrayed in the previous story. Those traits helped her in dealing with Aiden and how f***ed he was, as he would say. I ached for Aiden and all the hurts he dealt with growing up; abandoned by his teen mom, abused by his uncle, and raised by a grandmother who loved him but turned away from what was happening to him. No one, before Hannah, tried to find professional resources to help him cope and deal with his pain, anger and guilt. I truly believe it was due to his feelings for Hannah that tipped the balance, letting him open up and share with her.

Ms. McLaughlin wrote a wonderful story with relatable characters, and some very realistic problems. She did an excellent job approaching the realities and lives of sexual abuse victims, especially men. I really enjoy reading this book and had trouble putting it down, turning page after page, wanting more once I turn that last page. I highly recommend this book to other readers.

Only With You is the 4th book in the Man Enough series. In this book we have Hannah Walters and Aiden King's story. Hannah was introduced in previous books as Jase's BFF. Aiden always had a secret crush on her but to him she was untouchable. She was Jase's girl. But now that Jase has fallen in love with Hannah's sister, Becca, Hannah's friendship with Jase has changed. Enter Aiden. But Aiden is a damaged soul who doesn't believe anyone can love him.

Hannah was overbearing at times and clingy and I just didn't connect with her. She needs someone to depend on. Someone who will listen to her talk and talk and talk. At first it was Jase and when he moved on she needed to find someone else.

In the other books in the series you felt the camaraderie between the men. That is what I loved about this series. But it was missing in this book. Maybe it's because Aiden is the quiet one but none of the guys seem very close to him. This book has a much more serious tone than the other books too. It did deal with difficult subject matter and it handled it quite well.

I get that h had to do most of the work in their relationship, but damn. He literally never gave her any reason to fight for them. I kept waiting for her to stick to her guns when she said "screw it," but she crawled back every time. Don't get me wrong, he had a lot of demons, and I didn't want him to grovel...but when he F'ed up, he only said the words "I'm sorry;" he never behaved like he was, at all.

Also, we're never told what actually happened to him. I mean, I get the gist, but I'm not entirely sure of the whole picture. Plus, we're never told if he ever actually tells her. He says that he doesn't want her to know, and that's the end of the sharing portion of the story.

I was anxious for Hannah's story after her "role" in her twin sister-Becca- and Jase's story. While Hannah came off in that book as medelsome I truly felt in her story she hadn't realized the damage a false truth she told as a teen had caused. Hannah seems to be looking for a connection and is out of sorts after her twin and her best friend started dating. While I liked Hannah in this story I would have liked to have had some type of interaction/healing/bonding with these twin sisters..

Aiden is big, bad and broody. Known as a quiet man, Aiden doesn't know what to think when he and Hannah begin a texting, friendly relationship. He soon realizes what he thought something was was completely not what Hannah felt. AIden is such a loveable character. He was written with such vulnerability that Hannah was perfect for him- and he was perfect for Hannah. They complemented each other perfectly where one was outgoing and brash and the other closed off and reserved.

I enjoyed this story and hope there are more to come in this series.

I have totally loved this series by Nicole McLaughlin. I knew she might have a tough time with this one based on the response to the heroine, Hannah, from the last book. Hannah had made a comment to her sister when they were younger that had a huge negative impact on her sister's life. Personally, I had a similar experience growing up with my sister and could totally relate. Hannah's sister, just like mine, had no idea how far reaching the negative comments were. It was addressed briefly in this book and then Hannah moved on.
Hannah was fairly selfish in the other book, but really finds herself in this one. She starts a relationship with Aiden and discovers quickly that he has some sort of issue that will definitely make a sexual relationship with him difficult. Aiden is a very likable character. He's screwed up and he knows it, but tries really hard to protect Hannah. At times it is gut wrenching what he has and is going through. Hannah grows up enough to try to get him help and stand by him. The end isn't all sparkles and glitter--it's much more realistic. Ms. McLaughlin did a great job of handling a very difficult subject matter.

What a beautiful story about a slow-burn attraction gradually building over time, turning into trust and love! I loved that Aiden and Hannah were friends before they were lovers; I loved watching Aiden fantasizing about Hannah. And I think it’s so enticing to have a hot man, a National Guardsman and former sniper, cooking.
Aiden is such an alluring hero, his pain deep and raw, yet he’s still so sweet, tender and possessive “with his Hannah”. He is a basket of contradictions, intense, broken, a bit shy and awkward and so smitten with the heroine.
Hannah is impulsive and a bit pushy, but she tries to restrain herself and all that comes from a good place.
I loved that the author created intimate, meaningful moments between the romantic couple, making them complex and unexpected, instead of reducing feelings and emotions to stereotypes.

Wow!!! Only With You, written by Nicole McLaughlin was a sweet but deep story about overcome life difficulties and past traumatization. Aiden King is a man whose major encounters has so far hinder his abilities to grow and face one of life basic needs, love with the opposite sex. He can face a man in hand to hand combat. However, he has difficulties communicating his feelings, especially to Hannah Walters. The one person he can see growing old with. He knows, in order to express his feelings, he first must overcome his past demons.

Hannah Walters a school teacher who has finally had enough of false love. Has decided to wait, if all possible, for the kind of love that you can only read about in romance books or see in movies. The kind of love where just the sound of his voice has tingles running throughout her body. After the failed engagement, she's wondering maybe that's why their called fiction.

This story was so surprising to me. This was a last-minute choice that I was hesitant and now I am glad that I did select to read this story. At the beginning of this review, I said that the story was sweet. It was sweet in the way that we finally got to see a strong alpha male, whose also damaged in the way that only the love of a good woman would make him whole.

This wasn’t your standard romance book. The romance was not of intimacy but of deeds, the action of both characters. I liked the way the author had Hannah figured out what happened to Aiden, instead of him telling her what happened. For some reason having her figuring out that Aiden was abused as a child made more…I don’t know…shows that Hannah was more attuned to Aiden’s feelings and emotions.

By the end of Only With You, it was without a doubt that Aiden King was Man Enough to realize that being damaged was okay. That your past doesn’t always define who you are.

**I received a copy of Only With You from Net Galley in exchange for a voluntary and honest review**

Only For You by Nicole McLaughlin is the fourth book in her Man Enough series. This is Hannah and Aiden's story and why he is so distant there is a touchy subject so be prepared. After reading this I can see why their story was hard to write. It can be read as a stand alone or with Becca's story Should've been you as Hannah is her twin.

Hannah Walters has decided to give men a rest for a year after a bad break up from her fiance. But she was also the sister you hated in the previous book. But while staying at Jase's home on their National Guard week-end, Aiden and Hannah end of trading phone numbers and texting each other. When they begin to go beyond friendship he puts the brakes on which leaves her wondering if there is something else going in within Aiden's tortured soul.

Aiden King has had a slight crush since meeting her at Jase's but he also has a heart breaking secret plus PTSD from being a Army sniper while deployed. He owns a bar that he loves cooking for and has a grandmother in failing health. But when she passes away suddenly , Aiden decides to search for the mother he never knew. So he offers Hannah a road trip that will take them to Colorado and Wyoming to find her. But what he finds is not only does he have secrets but his mother does as well. Can Hannah help him on the path of healing his heart and soul while connecting with his mom and half sister? Hannah must also learn that she must soul search her own heart while Aiden seeks the help he needs to become the man she loves.

This was another great story by Nicole McLaughlin. I met Hannah and Aiden in "It Should've Been You", but I do believe that this book could be read independently of the series. There was enough explained that a reader could follow the story and understand. Also there was not too much "rewritten" about earlier books that it was over done. The book has great character development and several plots that held my interest.

Both Hannah and Aiden have on-going issues in each of their lives that makes them feel less than lovable. Together they find friendship and then love and then happiness. (I really like when couples are friend first then find love.) The road there is not an easy one though. That is what makes the story so interesting.

While this is a romance book, it is not a light and fluffy read. Hard life problems exist and cause the connection of Hannah and Aiden to be strained. As it is with loving another person, you accept the problems that come with them and as a united front, the couple can face them and hopefully find healing.

I felt so many emotions while reading this book. Parts were humorous, heart breaking, romantic and calming. I look forward to continuing the series.

I was given the ARC for this book by St. Martin’s Press. I want to thank them and also Nicole McLaughlin for allowing me to enter the world of this book early. I truly enjoyed my visit in this journey of Hannah and Aiden's love story.

Only With You by Nicole McLaughlin is the fourth book in the contemporary romance Man Enough series. Hannah Walters watches her best friend, Jase Beckford, fall in love with Hannah's twin sister. Hannah didn't feel that way for Jase she does feel the loss of having the close friendship they once had. During this time she also broke off her engagement so Hannah plans to wait for Mister Right before getting engaged again. Aiden King serves with Jase so the two are very close friends. Aiden always had a bit of a crush on Hannah he never acted upon it with Jase being so close to Hannah. They have known each other for a while, as friends of friends, but now they have found their own tentative friendship. But will their issues get in the way of them finding their HEA with each other? The story seemed a bit out of place, not all together seamlessly put together . It did finally seem to be put together by the 55 % mark and start making sense. Then you understand what the H/h issues are and why the Hero feels like he cannot commit. His is more pressing and will need further care. Hannah finally seems nicer in this book compared to the other book she was in for this series. Overall, even with the trigger issues and such, this is a good story. I just wished the ending wasn’t so rushed.

My Rating: 4.3 stars *****

First of all, I just wanted to quickly say, HA! I KNEW IT! I am an anticlimactic person, which is a character flaw and nothing to do with the book. But since the beginning, I suspected the “big secret” to be what it was. This is going to be a SPOILER FREE review, as always, so don’t be scared to continue reading.

I am no Sherlock Holmes but my imagination is a wild one that can not, in all circumstances, be tamed. So when I figured out the plot twist, I was one happy camper. Because again, anticlimactic.

But enough about that, Only With You was such a heartwarming story! This book is part of a series, but can be read as a stand-alone. I haven’t read any of the other books, and had no problem with this one.

Hannah, who recently got out of an engagement, is having doubts about her ability to love. Like for all 30-something woman, the society has painted this invisible line of when a person is supposedly thinking of settling down. But for that summer, Hannah vowed to do some self-reflecting and soul searching. Only this time, she found something else.

Now, Aiden, was a military guy who owns a bar. You’d think he will have women all over his badass feet, but that’s not really his thing. He’s had a crush on Hannah since they met a few years back through a mutual friend, but Aiden always had a fear of ruining what’s there to make a move on her.

So when the story progressed and their friendship grew, I couldn’t help but root for them! Hannah with her non-stop talking and obsession with real estate sales, and Aiden, a man of few words and a giant, sensitive teddy bear. Their relationship was just something that I admired. It was non-toxic and full of hope.

But as much as I love the two main characters, I also love the flow of the story and how everything ended. Their journey through love and healing and self-acceptance was amazing. This book is not for the faint-hearted. It dealt with some very serious topics that I think, the author did a fantastic job handling.

I recommend this book for those who want romance, but with a much bigger picture!

Only With You by Nicole McLauglin
Man Enough #4

Hannah Walters started out, in my mind, as the wicked selfish sister who kept her sister Becca and Jase apart for way too long. However, as I read THIS book I found that there are always two sides to every story and was happy to find out that Hannah is indeed someone worth caring and rooting for while hoping she can find her way to a HEA with Aiden. Aiden has HUGE issues to contend with and has pretty much cut himself off from intimacy. His reasons are rooted in immutable facts of his past and though he can compartmentalize while working in his bar, interacting with others, sighting down the rifle scope as a sniper or spending time with friends there is one aspect of intimacy that eludes him even though he would love to experience it with Hannah. The two would probably not even have had a chance at a HEA if Hannah hadn’t persevered but thankfully she did and Aide and she do have a shot together as a result of her (and his) efforts.

I am sorry to see this series end but wonder if perhaps there are more stories to be told about the people that are supporting character in some of the books in this series?

NOTE: This is not an easy read. There are triggers for those that have experienced abuse. There is also information I found interesting about just how many men may have experienced it in their early formative years.

Thank you to NetGalley and Swerve for the ARC – This is my honest review.

When I was offered this book, I thought, I don't want to read that! I am not drawn to covers like this. I know, I know! I am not supposed to judge a book by its cover. Needless to say, I am very glad I read this. It was the perfect travel companion. I read it on the airplane to NYC. It kept me entertained and captivated.
Hannah is a cute, young lady with a lot going for her. Except love! She has decided she wants the fairy tale, so to speak. She just never expected it to come from Aiden. Aiden is the strong, silent type. He has adored her from afar for a long time. Hannah has a close relationship with Aiden's best friend. He truly did not want to get in the way.
Aiden's grandmother passes away and this leads him to question some of his past. He and Hannah take off on a journey which leads to answers and to love!
I enjoyed the connection between Hannah and Aiden. These two work so well together. It takes a while, but they heat up the pages nicely. I mean who can resist Aiden! Ooooolala!
I received this novel from the publisher and Netgalley.
