Lucy's English class is working on a Shakespeare comedy, but so far it's a total tragedy. First, Lucy gets cast as the part of a mean guy -- while her best friend, Cecily, gets to be the interesting female lead. Even worse, all of Lucy's lines are in the same scenes as awful Georgia Sinclaire.
As if that wasn't enough afterlife drama, Lucy is torn between her crush, Colin, and intriguing older ghost-boy Miles. It's a plot complicated enough for Shakespeare himself! Will a new ghostly power help Lucy sort it all out before the curtain goes up?
Orli Zuravicky is a writer, an editor, and an amateur interior designer, which basically means she likes to paint stuff in her apartment. She grew up in a small suburb of Albany, New York, where the most exciting thing to do as a teenager was park somewhere illegally. She is one of four sisters, which has offered her plenty of fodder for her writing. After high school, she moved to New York City to attend Barnard College, Columbia University, where she double majored in Psychology and English and got rejected from the Poetry department. She always loved writing, but it wasn’t until a few years after graduation that she started writing fiction and taking it seriously. Her first original board book, Mister Doodle: C Is for City, came out in 2011, followed shortly by the second book in the series, Mister Doodle: A Color for Sketch. Happily Ever Afterlife is her first middle-grade series.
Orli lives her happily ever after (life) in Brooklyn, NY, and works full-time as a Senior Editor in children’s publishing.
I absolutley loved this book! The book was kind of confusing in the beginning about the whole afterlife thing, but overtime it seems to make more sense. Basically this book is about character Lucy, who is the main character, who faces some challenges. Like her new skill, that she has just found out about it, and the shakespeare play, she and the rest of English 1 will put on. Her best friend Cecily gets cast as the main role, as well as her other best friend Oliver, who seem to completely forget about her, while the play is getting put together. So, yeah Lucy is left in the dust, casted as a boy, a mean boy, mean ole, rude and harsh Malvolio, which if you have not already guessed what the play is... well it is The Twelfth NIght. Which is when... we encounter Viola (which is played by Cecily), who has been shipwrecked off the coast of Illyria. She can't find her brother, Sebastian (Lucy some called crush Colin), and is afraid he drowned. Viola is a noblewoman, but since she's all alone in the world, she needs a way to make a living. So yes, the book Drama- Happily Ever Afterlife has many twists and turns. And, if that's not enough, Lucy is in the same scenes as her worst enemy Georgia, and has to cope with her! So yes... crazy book! But, I loved it! I reccomend this book for anyone who loves Drama, Adventure, and just plain crazyiness!
Cecily and Oliver think SHE'S being dramatic! I wanted to cry in anger and frustration when I was reading this. I mean, Lucy did support Cece when she wanted to do cheerleading. And Miles... I really want it to work out. At least he can help her with the telekineses(?). Did Colin ever give Georgia a gift? I thought Lucy and Georgia were friends now. Oh, wait. They WERE. But somehow she found out that Colin asked Georiga out and tried to ruin it by pretending that Lucy invited Miles to the Arcade, too. At least Cece did come and save her then. Phew.
I never realized how young she is, as well on how she is in the wrong in most of these situations. Reading this at an older age makes you realize that most of these situations could have been easily resolved by just talking or expressing her feelings. She annoys me at times but I really enjoyed this book and all the characters, I like how every single characters gets an equal amount of time. Im not able to find the last book ANYWHERE but one day I hope to get my hands on it and finally finish the series. I felt it left on a cliffhanger and I NEED to find out what happens next!!
