When Clint Marlow's partner in crime is found murdered in the basement of Marlow House, Clint is the likely suspect. The only problem, Clint is dead. But that doesn't matter to the FBI agents investigating the case. Clint looks alive to them. Meanwhile, Danielle’s housemate Walt is coming to terms with his new reality, which is complicated with the FBI underfoot. Fortunately for Walt, he still has a few paranormal tricks up his sleeve.
I feel like I'm at a part of this series where I have to suspend all belief in, well, rational thought. Not only is the ghost no longer a ghost, but there is romance involved. Yick.
Also, I understand Holmes was trying to paint some of these characters as super mysoginistic. I get it. I do. But it's so uncomfortable.
I liked this book. Even if I knew whodunit early but I really enjoyed Walt once again. Finding out he still has some of his supernatural powers. I think this book is just showing how Walt is turning Clints body into his owns. How are they going to explain the fingerprints to Brian? Can't wait to dive into the next one in this series.
Wow! Things have come to an exciting place in this series. This series has become my favorite one. I can't give too much away but let's just say that Danielle's wishes have come true in regards to the ghost, Walt Marlow. This book closely follows the previous book where Walt's distant cousin, Clint Marlow, who looks just like him, comes to stay at Marlow house with a painter commissioned to paint a copy of the life-sized portraits of Walt and his wife Angela. The portraits are actually priceless.
This book continues with the murder of the artist in the basement of Marlow house and the chief suspect being Clint Marlow. As usual, through twists and turns, the culprit is caught with the help of a few ghosts and some clever plots.
As Clint/Walt recovers from his injuries, the criminal artist and his cousins are continuing to work with the buyer of the portraits. However, when someone is murdered, the police focus on Clint (but he's dead, and Walt didn't do it). The plot gets dizzying and the suspects run rampant, until the final resolution.
3.5 stars. Good mystery and great characters, as usual, but I must admit I was disappointed that it didn’t really pick up where the last book ended. Hopefully in future books. However, once again, the last line held promise for the next book.
Walt is adjusting to his new life, but that doesn’t mean murders stop. This book was a continuation of the last book with a lot of the same characters and storyline.
Without giving away too much for those who haven't started this series or who aren't this far along, let's just say things have changed pretty significantly for the resident ghost around whom this series revolves. While the changes might provide a pat "happy ending" of sorts for the series, I definitely didn't want the series to end because I'm become fond of all the characters and these mysteries/paranormal stories are always light and fun. But I was afraid that trying to move forward might mean the story would fall flat and the absence some of the special circumstances that made everything so interesting would mean the stories might become a bit boring. But the author has managed to come up with new and intriguing phenomena for Danielle's crew of friends (both living and dead) to deal with, even if some circumstances have changed. I hope she can keep that sense of discovery going through the next installments (an 18th book is already set to be released in a few months). As is often the formula with this series, this book ended with a bit of a cliffhanger, to set up the plot of the next installment. I am eager to see how that proceeds. While some of the elements of the mystery in this book were fairly predictable, others kept me guessing (e.g. what really happened in that house fire years ago?). The balance of what could be figured out and what couldn't was just enough to make the story satisfying without being boring. If you enjoy cozy mysteries and stories with paranormal elements, this is a fun series.
Definitely did not like this book as well as the rest of the series. First, the story was too convoluted and didn’t even seem to make sense to the characters. Secondly, Walt’s adapting to having an actual “life” doesn’t seem as interesting as it could be. I had thought from 3/4 through the last novel that it would have been more interesting to keep us guessing for at least one book whether it was Clint or Walt, and sure enough it was just kind of slow having Walt be all apologetic and nice to everyone. We didn’t even have much of a mystery in this one.
Walt is back from the dead and living in his cousin's body. But his cousin, Clint, had made everyone dislike him so completely, that Walt must pretend to have amnesia so people will give him a chance. However, people from Clint's past are showing up. First is the painter that created the replica of Walt and Angela's paintings. He demands that "Clint" return them to him. Of course he believes the portraits are the real ones not the ones he painted. But the Bonnet portraits are safe in a museum vault in Portland, so Walt is happy to give Jim Hill the paintings. But before they can be delivered, Hill shows up late one night, slips into Marlowe house while the household sleeps. But someone else is hiding in the shadows and in minutes, Hill is shot dead. Police believe "Clint" is involved. Can Walt follow through with his "amnesia" or will he slip up? Who besides Clint even knows Hill? As the police close in, Walt and Danielle must find a way to get the Killer to confess.
Possible spoiler alert: I talk about the characters and the plot. No giveaways on who did it, but some people are pretty touchy about what constitutes a spoiler. So you've been warned.
Instead of getting tired of these books, I'm becoming more and more engrossed. Apparently, so is everyone else because the library waiting list for the next book is 6 weeks!!! Ack! I can't wait that long!
In this book, Walt is settling into his new body to the point that his old childhood scar is visible, his fingerprints have changed, and Clint's injuries healed up faster than expected.
The death in this case is a character from the last novel who was involved in the switch of the paintings in Marlow house. People end up dead and their ghosts aren't exactly cooperating in revealing the killer.
Can't wait for the next one, but it looks like I'll have to.
There is always a great read in this series, no book is a disaapointment.
Danielle is not haunted in A bad way...the characters are believable and pulls you into each story. The only negative is that to understand a lot of what is referenced in the plot is things that occurred in last stories. I highly recommend that you read the series from book1 because each is a great read.....I can not wait for book 18 to arrive! Won't miss it. Already pre-order book 18
This was a good mystery. Walt has some surprising revelations. It did not feel as exciting as the other books. Maybe because the entire art forgery mystery was not tied up in a bow. There is still the Russian woman out there. Maybe because there were no new mysterious large sums of cash that go to my favorite lucky heroine, Dani 😂. None-the-less it was still a 5 star read.
I still don't know how I feel about a ghost-human relationship. Even if Walt took form in another body, and the author made it very easy for herself to explain how this happened. However, the story was complex and intriguing. In a way, I'm happy for Walt and Danielle, but I'm not overly happy about it. I think the relationship between Brian and Danielle could have been a fun and interesting story to tell, instead of Walt and Danielle...but that's me.

It so freaking cool after to finally have Walt alive and walking and talking to everyone. Sounds too good to be true and it appears so because most don't seem to accept him. There's a twisted and turning mystery that's hard to figure out. Walt is working hard to learn everything new about his new body and the new century he finds himself. The next book is setup perfectly.
The end of the last book was quite obvious because otherwise why go through all that? If you haven’t read that, stop here and go back. The art thieves are still interested in the paintings and there continues to be much coming and going at Marlowe house. Author finds an interesting way to merge the previous plots with the current one which I like. I was going to miss Walt. And Marie is just not the same.
Well crafted story that kept me guessing until the end but pulled together very logically. Even the bad guys are people you love to hate. The conversation where the bad guys of various crimes all share their opinions of how to treat women was so realistic and funny! If you love the series, you'll love this book!
What happens when Walt decides to take over Clint's body and be alive again? This could be very interesting for Danielle's and Walt's future. Unfortunately Clint's activities have left some unfinished business that could harm everyone associated with Marlow House. The 17th book in the series has some interesting happenings.

The Ghost of Second Chances (Book 18) By Bobbi Holmes, Anna J McIntyre
Five stars, Walt has powers, even though he is human... Danielle is naturally brilliant as an detective.. Even if she is a novice.. Like the fact she is taking the steps to get closer to Walt.. This was a real good mystery, leaving questions at the end
The Ghost of Second Chances (Haunting Danielle book 17
This was another winner. I just love this series and these Authors. The write great mysteries and love the ghosts. I highly recommend all their books and different series. They have great imaginations and wonderful characters. I love reading their adventures in each book. Diana Romano
I have submitted this review after listening to the audiobook of this title. (Audible Membership) Walt is experiencing life outside Marlowe House for the first time in over ninety years. He's learning his new body, but is also his body is adapting to him. The ongoing saga over the artwork continues, with a body count increasing over a very short time.
I'm having a little trouble adjusting to Live Walt, but I'm sure in time I will get used to the idea On the other hand I love having more ghosts, which is main reason for reading these books I can't imagine anyone not loving to read Haunting Danielle books, I definitely recommend them
I knew Danielle would end up with Walt even though I really wanted her with Chris. I am a bit disappointed but understand in order to move the series along this was really the only way. I will continue the series rooting for Lilly and Ian and hoping that Chris finds his happy ever after.
Have all the haunting Danielle series. A must. Read for anyone who likes ghost stories or even wonders about afterlife. It's hilarious and exciting. Keep up the writing waiting for the next one.
Danielle and Walt head for Marlow house from the hospital. Walt has a broken leg that really slows him down, which is probably a good thing! The adventures begin at once and don't let up until the end!
